I'm hoping Renka's road back to No.1 is just '6 weeks, wins Miami and IW'. Sorted. :)

They will probably go back and forth from now until the end of the clay court season. But unless Serena can find a way to lose before the second week at RG I dont see any way Vika can be no. 1 by Wimbledon

Agreed, there is no way (barring injury) that Renka can be No.1 going into Wimbledon. But, if she can keep within 1000 pts going into Wimbledon, I think she'll finish YE No.1. Serena has around 6,900 points to defend from Wimby onwards, whereas Renka has only 4,800.

Take off Olympics and it looks even more favourable for Victoria.

If she shows any improvement on clay and stays consistent on hard, she'll be fine.

I'd love a four-way battle for No. 1. A decent showing to defend points at Miami along with decent showings at IW and the French (a large upside there--but so do Serena and Vika) could put Radwanska back in the thick of things.

I'm re-watching the Serena v Kvitova match and I saw so many positives for Petra. If she can watch a video of this match and see that she doesn't have to overhit or go for the lines because she has natural easy power and depth on her shots she will get into the Top 4. I like Radwanska but she doesn't belong in that group.

I felt the same way. Even though she lost that match, there is alot of good she can take from it.

However from Wimbledon onwards is where you expect Serena to also collect more points than anyone else, especialy from Wimbledon to the U.S Open. Barring a huge injury Serena will win Wimbledon, Azarenka certainly isnt stopping her there. She generally is the one to beat in the summer hard court events too, atleast certainly has been the last 2 seasons. After the U.S Open, well it would depend how much incentive Serena had regarding the #1 rank at that point but at the WTA Championships she would likely be the favorite as well. Of course if Azarenka wins the U.S Open she will almost certainly end the year #1 and Serena wouldnt bother playing the kind of schedule to even have a shot to overtake her in that case.

Serena has little room to gain points after the French. She won damn near everything she entered after the French disaster. She loses the Olympic points. She could play Cincy and/or Canada, but she'd have to likely not defend Stanford. I don't see Serena really pushing herself as hard nor as successfully as last summer to fall. Not really sure she'll successfully defend both Madrid and Charleston.

She'll take a whiff at the Asian fall swing, if history serves right. Serena really doesn't value holding #1 nearly as much as nabbing more majors. She'll save herself for the big events + the ones she cares for. Exit the ones she doesn't really care about.

Yeah, all of this.

It's all to play for this autumn.

Just want to point out Venus is set to return to the top 20 next week, its been over 2 years :), a few months shy of 33, on a part time schedule.

Okay. Who or what caused the Henin 2007 vs Serena 2012 thread to get deleted?

The bitterness between Henin fans and Serena fans always causes problems when threads such as those are created. It's only a matter of time before they turn into a mudslinger as opposed to any semblance of rational discussion.

The even better news is that she is really not defending many points at all in the upcoming months, nor over the summer, so her ranking could really go up come time for the US Open/fall swing.

Liscki just retired from the finals against Marina Erakovic after losing the first set 1-6. Erakovic was on fire and Sabine was very flat. The TD said during the trophy presentation that Sabine was fighting an illness all week. Sabine said that was sick the past few days and apologized to the crowd.

Go Erakovic and NZ! She completely deserved that, having lost 2 finals before and playing fantastically all week. She's achieved all this on her own, with no support from country.

I'd like to see her as high as possible.

I think she wants to get a top 16 seeding in time for RG/Wimbledon, which should set her up for a top 10 finish post USO. Entirely possible provided she is able to play what shes scheduled.

JELENA WINS BOGOTA

Beats Ormachea 6/1 6/2
Her first title since Indian Wells 2010.

None of the players were ranked in the top 100 but 5 wins is 5 wins. She really looked like PEAKlena of 2008 at times this week.

I hopw she can gain some momentum from this. Like or dislike, Jankovic is good for the game and a fan favourite.

Anything for her is good at this point. I thought she was gonna lose against Knapp and would have probably picked Ormachea in the final..but Jelena proved me wrong. Now lets see if she can take this into the big clay titles after IW/Miami.

I gave up trying to understand Woz. The only logic I can think of is:
a) she's looking for any title to feel good
b) she figures she has a 1st round bye at IW
c) appearance money
d) time to get a tan
e) all of the above

Did Woz play Malaysia last year?

If not, any points makes her feel good at this point.

Hopefully Jelena can get some confidence from this and start to enjoy herself more the court. Would love to see her make a decent run at IW and Miami and play some good tennis. The WTA needs it.

Lucky #13. Confidence is everything, she seems to lose confidence so quickly and once lost it's so elusive to get back. She makes it the finals of tournament last year, then loses to Melanie Oudin, one player who is even less confident than JJ, and Roberta Vinci (totally understandable). Bravo JJ, hope #14 is very soon.

That sounds closer to the truth. She knows she's a majors washout, but she does not want to drop out of sight as a functioning player, hence playing anywhere else that will have her.

No support from her country? You mean other than years and years of free coaching, travel expenses, sponsorship help etc?

Wozzi loses to Qiang Wang in Kuala Lumpur, tanking for Indian Wells no?

Clearly, she was being paid an appearance fee for that tournament. Otherwise, why go? I thought she was getting things slightly back on track, but this is a bad loss. I can ignore this if she plays well and has decent results in IW/Miami.

Sloane is giving me the feeling she might be Oudin II rather than the "next big thing". Girl, please get it together.....

I don't think BMS will ever win a title.

I would have to agree...she won the first set 6-1 and still failed to win. I know Pliskova is a junior slam champ and all but still..thats just embarrassing. Least Mattek-Sands has dubs to fall back on...

Navarro on the other hand well...um...nope.
