Is Djokovic now the HUGE favourite to win US Open 2023?

Djokovic is the biggest favorite for today‘s match compared to all the matches they’ve played so far, even when Carlitos was 19.

As for the US Open, they’re about dead even, though if Djoko wins Leah, he’ll become the betting favorite,

I weirdly feel like Cincy helps Carlos much more than Djokovic. I’m getting Cincy/USO 15 vibes, where Djokovic may win the battle here but eventually lose the war as he plays his tactical hand too early (as Federer)

Because ultimately Carlos needs experience against actual good players on quick HCs. To my knowledge, he has played exactly 0 great players on quick HC.

Apart from 2018 and 2013, I don‘t see the Cinci title impacting who wins the USO a couple of weeks later in the last 12 years. Won’t be surprised if it might be the same this year also as Cinci is usually faster and higher bouncing than the USO.

2022 CORIC Borna beat TSITSIPAS Stefanos
2021 ZVEREV Alexander beat RUBLEV Andrey
2020 DJOKOVIC Novak beat RAONIC Milos
2019 MEDVEDEV Daniil beat GOFFIN David
2018 DJOKOVIC Novak beat FEDERER Roger
2017 DIMITROV Grigor beat KYRGIOS Nick
2016 CILIC Marin beat MURRAY Andy
2015 FEDERER Roger beat DJOKOVIC Novak
2014 FEDERER Roger beat FERRER David
2013 NADAL Rafael beat ISNER John
2012 FEDERER Roger beat DJOKOVIC Novak
2011 MURRAY Andy beat DJOKOVIC Novak

It's more that an ill Djokovic just beat Alcaraz in Cincy, so can't imagine what a healthy Djokovic would be able to do against Alcaraz at UO?

Djokovic said a few days ago that the conditions and balls at US Open are completely different to Cincinnati. Will be interesting to see who this favours most. Could see some surprises this year.

Fast court conditions and heavy balls this tournament. Great weather for the players though. Not that hot and little wind This fortnight.

Alcaraz is still my favourite to win, just based on youthful exuberance and being the defending champion at the US Open but never count Djokovic out until he's put out.

Can Djokovic play the Cincinnati final match vs Alcaraz in a best of 5 set scenario? I don't think so. Djokovic will have to dictate play, shorten points, play more aggressive and keep Alcaraz on the run.

I say all of that yet Alcaraz and Djokovic have to play numerous rounds before they predictably face each other. This is the best rivalry in years for me.

You would find that Djokovic ca indeed. Alcaraz started to cramp again in his hand at the end of the third set in that tie break, meaning he was not going to last five sets that day if it was a best of five.

Did Alcaraz say that? I thought it was from the cut he got during the match that's why he put a band-aid on.

He hand was indeed cramping in that tiebreak, you could see it. The injury to the hand was of course there, but he was still playing just fine all set long.

If you are confident that Carlos will win it why do you need Djokovic to lose early to relax?
Because Djokovic is willing to cheat to win so the earlier he is out then anyone but Djokovic will win - I always believe that Carlos will win - this year he has won half of his tournaments he has played and has the best record in men's tennis, so there is always a strong chance that he will! :) :) :)

Carlos had some drink during the Cincy final which was prepared the same way as Djokovic’s ;)

Haha - your hatred towards Djokovic is quite something.

In terms of the Wimbledon win, I don't think Djokovic looked old, it was a battle of titans that very slightly favored the young guy. I don't think it was indicative of a Djokovic decline or the dawn of a new era of Alcaraz dominance over him, not yet at least.

While I agree that the US Open has been Djokovic's kryptonite, his last 2 appearances was him eliminating himself and a close loss in the finals to Medvedev who was on fire on the Hard Courts at that time, it's not like he's bowing out early in the tournament to tomato cans.

Now he has tons of motivation after the Wimbledon loss and all the chatter that followed starting to doubt him so this guy who has a Michael Jordan level of competitive fire is likely to be firing on all cylinders to get back on top. I know it was just Monfils but man did he look good, like he's ready to take on this Summer hard court season head on so while I'd favor Alcaraz slightly it's only slightly IMO.
For some reason Djokovic seem more relaxed now

Alcaraz has been playing way below level since Wimbledon
Sinner is Sinner, he doesn't have the mentality to win US Open
Zverev will choke if he gets deep in the tournament
Medvedev is playing like a top 20 player at best
Rune is 0-4 since Wimbledon

Who in the top 50 can challene Djokovic?. Does this mean that all the pressure is on Djokovic, and that it will become laughable and question his G.O.A.T. status if he fails to win US Open 2023.

Are we at a situation where Djokovic can only do badly, because a Djokovic win is such a guarantee that it would just be an indifferent win?
Are you smoking crack? Djokovic only BARELY defeated Alcaraz at bo3 tournament, looks extremely difficult for him to take out Alcaraz at slam

The more vocal young guys are about their desires, the more it looks likt this:

Insert Djokovic (and Alcaraz) in the right line, of course!

Well, he managed to win it. Alcaraz couldn't make the date, felt we were a little robbed here in the final. Medvedev played his best in years, but beating Alcaraz and Djokovic back to back was a step too far. Djokovic was also in the mood to extract some payback.
