You heard it here first folks. All the Zverev hype is coming to an untimely end as the Italian Stallion Jannik Sinner rises like a knight in shining armor to put aside one of the greatest obstacles to the CYGS.

I may or may not be very drunk at the moment.

Italian Chokelion who gets bageled by Monfils. He ain’t touching the God.

Who? You mean the little fellow who got pushed around by Jack Sock yesterday? You mean the guy who is lucky his wildcard opponent was injured? That guy?

By that I mean, the Jack Sock who would hope for a career like Monfils? I don't recall a top 5 player (Zverev) looking at his box that much since the Murray days.

I've never seen someone play so many big points so poorly (maybe old Zverev?)...its not just today; he does it against almost every decent opponent: Monfils, Isner, Nadal, Zverev, etc. How do you screw up that short ball on set point in the tiebreaker after returning a 135MPH serve for a winner? He had already screwed up 4-5 points before that. Unbelievable. I'm so tired of hearing about how amazing he is going to be.

Sinner in 1 year time turned from one of the mentally strongest players on tour to one of the mentally weakest.
I know right? He's literally devolving lol #nextdegen
Did I not warn you guys? Happens all the time here. He was a ngbs, is a ngbs, and will be remembered as a ngbs.

I don't he's devolving at all. I think he could almost taste the set, and he played to his weaknesses not his strengths.

It's one thing if you go into a match with nothing to lose, like Jack Sock the other day, it's another when you're this close |--.--| to the top ten. It was easier when he was further away.

He should have played the Olympics, though...

If only he had won that 3rd set :smh: One of the worst shoulda, woulda, couldas I've seen in a while.

Ah, well. He can go home and think about what he didn't do before the indoor season.

Sure, but there is a distinction...
To make it short, for a long time in history there was a situation called “German Dualism” between Prussia and Austria. Later it was the monarchy of Austria-Hungary which was a state of many ethnicities and nationalities.

However, what is known as Austria today is only the German part of the old monarchy and essentially fully German. It’s really not different from Bavaria at all and in many regards should be part of Germany just as the other parts of the old monarchy are part of countries fitting their ethnicities now as well.

I think only the bad memories of the Hitler era and the fact that this was the only time since the 19th century that Austria officially was a part of Germany is the reason that Austrians today don’t want to be Germans anymore.

Aye, but....."A 1987 survey revealed that only 6% of Austrians identified themselves as 'Germans'."

Historically speaking, Germany as a country is quite a recent entity. It has always been Prussia and Austria as ChrisRF pointed out. Bavarians will tell you they are Bavarian first, German second. The German speakers have always been fragmented into kingdoms, principalities and such, and always had political rivalries with other German neighbours. So it’s true that Sinner is not really Italian but rather German in ethnicity. Austrians may not identify with Germany the country but they are part of the German speaking cultural realm.

First, no one disagrees with the fact that he speaks German, but to call him a German is silly, but to call him an Austrian is not (and he himself has said his hometown is "completely beside Austria"). There is a distinction and has been since 1871, even before the 20th Century.
