I expected him to win in straight sets. Maybe a closer score. Their only 2 previous matches Murray choked away beating Nalbandian at Wimbledon when he was only 17 or 18, and the other was a win for Nalbandian during a hot indoor streak. Nalbandian is laughably overrated on TW though. All this talk he was suddenly in word beating form since he won a small tournament is kind of a carryover of what has been going on for him for years.

Murray didn't choke at 2005 Wimbledon. He lost that match because his fitness was not up to standard.

Really surprised that the poll was 80-20 in Nalbandian's favor all things considered.

Maybe more wishful thinking from some.
Indeed, but then it's symbolic of the anti-Murray sentiment on this forum. In fact, when Murray games are concerned, I'm not sure what point there is even having prediction polls. It'll always be what people 'hope' will happen (usually a Murray loss) instead of people objectively working out a likely result.

At least, it always seems that way to me.

Haha! Murray vote is now magically up from 18% pre-match to 27% post-match.

You gotta love this place...

Nalbandian the TW god crashes out. What a shock, not.

I'm with you there, reading the General Pro Player forum over the past week you'd think Nalbandian had just won the Grand Slam, not Washington.

Pretty sweet to think it was Murray who brought it all crashing down with a demolition like that :)

Have you not seen any of the Nalbandian matches from the last two weeks? Have you not seen any of his scores? Dude comes back from an extended layoff, everyone expects him to go out in the first round and he starts bageling and destroying good HC players right and left.

Said it before the match started:

Calm down people! (almost) all TW is cheering for david, but let's not forget that he is coming back from longs periods of inactivity. So it'll be natural even if he loses easy in two sets.

Some people expected dave to play like his 2007 form today. Dave is at 70/80% of his level. He has been out of the tourneys for more than year and a half, so what do you expect from him?

His timing is not at its peak yet, and so isnt his fitness.

This result is totally understandable.

Funny how the poll suddenly got a bunch of votes for murray in 2. when the match statred, there were only two votes for murray in two.

anyways, great match by the Murray Man.

Who were the guilty parties?
Come on, own up. Who's having a laugh.

Talk about being misquoted. Where did I call David Nalbandian a ballbasher? The only joke here is the irrational hatred shown towards Murray by the majority of posters.

What an earth are you blabbering about inverted commas? The use of ' is perfectly acceptable.

OK new user get off the boards if you just want to start arguements. Firstly, you began the vocabulary lesson not me so get a life. And for your information, it's not perfectly acceptable to DIRECTLY QUOTE somebody through the use of inverted commas if they actually never said what you (mis)quoted. And secondly, where did one person say they hated Murray?

Nalby's BH was horror today. Really poor effort.
Typical Nalby letdown in the latter stage of a tournament. Also people here vastly underestimate Murray's abilities on that type of hard court. It seems they've already forgotten he was the finalist in AO this year.

How do you explain this
http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/tennis/4619129.stm
Prime Nalbaldian, baby Murray
Tell me how that link contradicts my words, and I'll do my explanation after. I don't see your point.
Let's be honest here, it had absolitely nothing to do with fitness, Murray just destroyed him.
Nalbo couldn't hit the ball hard in all the match, he was playing very slow. I think it's related with playing so many matches in few days after coming back from long inactivity. Murray was playing very fast, similar to what he did against Nadal in 2008 Us open semifinals. Nalbandian was hitting the ball at 50% of the speed Murray was. No chance for Nalbandian. Murray played very very well, full credit for him.

1/ Nalby too, said that 10 matches in 14 weeks has made him quite sore and this is coming from a player that we all know have a physical problem.

2/ But there's not quantity alone, there's quality too since in his togh draw, he had to past Ferrer and Soderling whom we all know will really d (rain your energy

3/ Along with Djokovic, Fat Dave is one of the most vulnerable to the sun (that's why he an indoor master lol) and they still keep him playing in around ~ 12 p.m for 4 consecutive matches ???

And the question is - why didn't more people see this coming? I really thought Nalbandian would have to be out of gas after all these tough matches, and Murray is a definite step up from all the guys Nalbandian's played, even Soderling on HC, yet the poll was still 80-20 in his favor. Again, maybe more wishful thinking, but common sense would say Nalby would be out of gas and not up to the task of taking out a guy like Murray.
