Why do people hate Murray so much?

I really dont get it. Whats wrong if he plays a style of tennis you dont like. As long as he wins matches with his style he is the better player. I am not trying to say that Murray can beat Federer or Nadal just asking why hate?

He is number 3 in the world and for anyone to accomplish that much has to work their butt off. Literally its not an easy thing especially during these times when Federer and Nadal are playing. Then saying he will never win a slam or he sucks is harsh! Why?

Okay, this is not my opinion (some things are) but I think the reasons are:

* He's not good-looking, it all looks uncomfortable when he roars, cheers, is emotional
* He's doing a lot of fist pumps and come ons, on not too important points and also a lot on simple unforced errors by his opponent
* His game is very defensive, relying on opponents unforced errors, and drawing people in to pass them. For the real tennis fan, this is especially frustrating, because we appreciate Murray's talent on the backhand, his good first serve, his touch with dropshots, lobs and volleys, and his shotmaking. We've seen what its like when he plays attacking tennis, and it's the closest to variety what the post-Fed era of men's tennis has left.
* He's boring. He never jokes around, you can tell he doesn't like press conferences. He seems tight in them, and wants to get out of there. His voice is very monotone, and he never seems to say anything special.

These, I think are the main reason. His brother seems a lot more likeable.

personally I don't think he's boring,I think he's very funny.I read his twitter from time to time and he seems very funny.
Of course the funny side of him, shows only in there and not in oncourt interviews,or any interviews and especially on the court where he acts like a spoiled brat.

One more reason:
british media Ridiculous HYPE.

I admire Murray Style of play (he's an excellen counter puncher IMO)... But only TWO things i really HATE him

1. He Beat Richard Gasquet in Wimbledon
2. I don't like his personality ON COURT!

I think a big part of his cageyness with the press is that the English media gave him a horrible time when he was younger when he supposedly expressed "anti-English" sentiment before the football world cup.

He was with Tim Henman in an interview and Tim made a good-natured crack about Scotland not qualifying for the world cup and Murray joked back that he'd be supporting anyone but England. It got massively blown out of proportion and he was pretty much vilified for it, for far too long. There's still the odd small-minded English bigot who refuses to support him not because of his tennis but because of his supposed Anglophobia, which is a load of rubbish.

But he seems like a pretty nice guy when he's relaxed and loosened up a bit. I'm a big fan of his, but I do understand why some people get annoyed by his game/antics, and I do as well sometimes. But absolutely nothing against him personally; quite the contrary, and I have my fingers crossed for him this Sunday, but considering his opponent I'm not going to work myself up into nervous-wreck mode over the match, because with Federer playing so sublimely right now I don't think it'd be worth my effort!

I don;t think anyone here really hates Murray, why would you hate someone you don't know.
Perhaps one fan maximo rubbed people the wrong way, and their responses give the impression that there''s hate.

Since you are (appa) a newcomer, we do make fun of players and have a good laugh. Nothing to get worked up about.

His come ons every time his opponent makes a mistake annoys me.

He plays far to defensive all the time. i don't see why he does this considering he has the tools to be a good attacking player.

His mouth can swallow planets

Tyrus

British media way over-hype the guy.

He has a weak second serve(never seen a pro hit so many double faults).

Bad mental lapses (i was at the match in Cincy where he punched his racket and his hands were bleeding, but i thought it was kind of funny though), his yell is loud and annoying.

overall, he has an ugly game, despite having fantastic footwork, a steady backhand and tricky slice, his shot-making (sometimes amazing) looks more like luck rather than skill. He doesn't control points, he just plays defense and waits for opponents to make UE's.

It's intangible why i dislike him, because i respect that he is good, just not very fun to watch i guess.

He's ugly

He's a moron

He conducts awkward in interviews

He doesn't have a driving license

He's ungracious in defeat

He's unwilling to help the LTA in producing more players

He dumped his gorgeous girlfriend because he's chauvinistic fool, and thinks he's good looking.

That's why.

Agree with all of this. And would add "sick of the Brit hype." I know they haven't had a male winner in about 40,000 years, but lighten up until he does something. And 'something' means win a major. Making him the favorite and paying bitter ex players who wish they had Fed's money to grovel about his game just turns non-Brits off.

I always focus on the tennis first and foremost. Not all players are going to "look" a certain way or act just like everyone else. Variety is the "spice" of life. Let's cut these players some slack in terms of things that might be "annoying". They are trying to play the Game at an extremely high level and are put under extreme pressure constantly, but that's what they bargained for.

Say what you will about guys like Murray, Nadal, Federer, Djokovic, or Del Potro, they all have their slight "flaws" or quirks, or things that might irritate the fans of the other players, but they are constantly pushing themselves to the edge physically and mentally on the court, so let's keep that in mind. How do posters handle doing the same thing? If you are not doing that in your own life, then understand that your criticism of these players loses a lot of credibility. Look in the mirror before being quick to criticize these pro players.

I think that in tennis terms, Murray can play outstanding tennis, and his variety and ability to counter punch and at times go on the offense at times is something to be admired. He has very few weaknesses if any at this stage of his career, and his offensive game continues to improve. Furthermore, he has obviously worked extremely hard these past few years to get himself in very good shape/condition. I know Brad Gilbert is a big Murray supporter, but I like his comment that Murray could play 7 sets and he'd be fine. Let's accentuate the positives of each player as much as possible, because it makes watching Tennis so much more enjoyable, and a whole lot less painful for oneself.

Maybe two of those are true.

I doubt you can find an example of him being ungracious in defeat. Unless saying his opponent played too well for him is ungracious?

The "quality of British tennis"? Hahaha that's classic! Have you seen us play in the Davis Cup recently? We would have lost every rubber against POLAND if it wasn't for Murray.

You still think Murray's a pusher. That's okay, people see what they want to say. Ugly? That's okay, beauty if subjective. Buuut other than that everything you said was, quelle surprise, BS. :)

He actually passed his driving test before last year's Wimbledon.
