I will be surprised if RF loses this match.
But more importantly than the win is the form that he brings, especially going into clay.
Would be nice to see him serving at a high %, not wasting BP opportunities, and keeping the UE down.

No chance. He's playing because he has Moet sponsor obligations and because he has a chance to gain some serious points. Novak has an opulent pad in Miami, so he'll be there too:

It's pretty sad when 85% of you think the old man's going to win I mean 38 used to be ancient in 10 years over prime

Yes, he's rather exceptional isn't he? Glad you recognise that. [emoji14]

Anyway, it's hardly Fed's fault if the other players can't beat him. I do think we'll have some young guys stepping it up consistently in the next couple of years or so.

The longer the woman's match lasts, the worst it is for Roger, Conditions start to slow down and become heavier the later it gets. They put back the final two years this year already, but this gives a significant advantage to Thiem. I was hoping Roger could get on court precisely at 3:30, but these women just keep going at it.

If this were Miami id give Thiem a realistic chance. Not here

Looks like it will be warm and dry for men's match. It will start in the mid-80's and drop to mid-70's by eve. Humidity is very low 20%.
I think Roger will be able to hit thru Thiem just fine, esp. after Thiem played a tough 3 setter yesterday.
I predict 2 straight sets for Rog.

It's fine IMO, if Fed can deal with Stan's heavy ball at night time, then he'll able to do the same against Thiem during mid afternoon.

These matches are decided by what is between the ears more than anything else.

The players who consistently have had success against Roger are those that can match or exceed him mentally. Those who can defiantly stare at Federer and make it known that they are there to beat him.
Those that do not choke on big points and make Roger feel the heat. Only Djokovic and Nadal have done that consistently in this era.

So it doesn't matter how Thiem plays. He will lose it mentally and unravel when the pressure is on.

Federer in 2: 6-2, 6-4.

Seriously bad for Fed that this f---ing women's match drones on and on. When I predicted an easy straight sets victory for Roger, I assumed he wouldn't be playing a night match. And that is what it's essentially become now. The conditions grow insanely slow and heavy as the sun sets.

Overreacting much? It's not even 4PM down there.

That was my point: it will not be mid-afternoon when Fed plays Thiem, it will be a nighttime match. Temps drop rapidly by 4:00 pm and you have heavy slow conditions by 5:00 at the latest.

Started watching at 6:25 - scheduled time 6:30 and the Women's final is on. I have to leave in a bit so I hope they finish soon. Some pretty good screaming going on.

If you were familiar with the low desert climate, you would get the anxiety from a Fed fan.

I mean, not really disputing the court speed issues. But... you know... it's a tennis match... your posts sound like as if you had $100000 on the line from the match, relax.

"Roger has a solid 10–4 record against Austrians," says one match preview.

Why do people bandy about those kinds of stats as if they matter one bit? As if Fed's record against, say, Jürgen Melzer might be predictive of this match just because he happens to also be Austrian.
