Thank you for the post and analysis. I liked reading it. I would be remiss if I didn't say that I don't agree with everything.

Yes, Stan is a hard opponent for Novak usually. But I think the problem is that you're thinking of the Stan of past.
Let me ask you this: Have you seen Stan this year, and last year? His game is way way off compared to before. His movement sucks and most of his signature DTL shots do NOT work now because he is almost ALWAYS late.
His ROS has become worse than ever. He makes head scratching errors on neutral forehand balls. Did you even watch him against Lorenzi? Not even his serve is consistent.

Novak is closer to his peak/prime and Stan is waaaay off and a shadow of what he used to be. How will the match be competitive then.
I'd be VERY surprised by anything other than a straight set victory for Novak.

I'm not counting Wawrinka out at the moment. It has taken him a long time to rediscover his movement, but he's getting closer. We'll see if he can take one step closer when they play. I will be rooting for the Stanimal to make an appearance. If he does... I think the Djoker is going down.

Now, if Murray can just figure out how to run again, we'll be in real business.

Djokovic is fully ready for this one, I expect him to dominate and frustrate Stan in this match.

This will be Djok's toughest test so far. Especially if he is not 100% physically.

Weird Novak can show up at any time, moving poorly and yanking FHs wide.

Stan has a real chance. And assuming Medvedev gets through to the QFs, Novak could be pretty drained for that match.

The 2016 USO final crowd definitely rooted for Djokovic over Stan. Stan is not even that much liked and any final he is in always has low ratings. 85%? No way. I expect the crowd to be pretty split with maybe Wawrinka getting more support since he probably will be seen as the underdog, not that it really matters.

He looks a bit overweight for a tennis player because he's so thick. Has a very unusual tennis body. But when he takes off his shirt, there is no fat. There never was. The man is a beast!

I think as good as novak is upcoming path is truly an increased level of difficulty level in each match.
I mean facing stan could be grueling and also can turn out to be easy but if its a tough one then in next most probably medvedev will be a tougher one imo after wawrinka despite meddy being physically being drained but he would be having huge confidence since cincy and if djokovic gets through these 2 then roger is the next tough one, I know many would say he is playing crap but any member of the big 3 is tougher opponent most times than other and if federer reaches semi, I feel he will be motivated to brush off the Wimbledon embarrassment.Now if djokovic gets through all this and faces rafa in the final then that will be toughest of them all and that will be also due to these 3 matches taking out a lot from djokovic.So I feel if everything happens as I mentioned which all these players meet novak then I don't see novak winning but if he does then 2020 he would be untouchable in slams I feel he will feel invincible.Also all this could turn out to be different if say wawrinka plays poorly, meddy bows out in 4th round, goffin reaches semi or even rublev reaches final then all this will go for a toss and novak will cruise to another win but as of now his path is realistically tough.

It's not really an upset if Stanimal has beaten him in 3 Slam matches (AO2014, RG2015, USO2016). And even in the Slam matches that Djokovic won, it took him 5 sets to do it (AO2013, USO 2013, AO2015). No matter who wins, it should be a tough match. We need the big 3 to start grinding like hell and pour some real sweat out there and earn their way instead of them smacking around these little baseline monkeys who can't do jack.

I wish the fans could show the players some of the respect they give each other.

I know both Stan and Novak totally respect each other's abilities and i believe they used to practice together a bit.

Med is a non-factor in this tourney

he's admitted to being physically drained in his third round match and he's yet to play his 4th round

if he crawls over the finish line to face Djoker he's gonna get smashed

I never meant that Stan is fat! Jeez! It was a funny observations, some people have round faces, some have longer faces. It wasn't an insult, just a joke that some got and some people have no sense of humour. Of course Sta is not fat. They both look mousy in that photo.

Hi Rina my post about fans not respecting the players was not aimed at you and i thought your comment was funny, i am talking about in general when fans of the big 3 sometimes go really overboard in their attacks on each other and in rubbishing some of their opponents such as Cilic, Warwinka, Goffin etc.

It would be an upset since Djokovic is the favourite and an upset in sports means beating the (betting) odds. That doesn't mean Wawrinka won't have a good chance to beat him but that the majority of people think Djokovic will win and therefore Djokovic losing would be an upset.

Personally i will be very content if djokovic can get through Vavrinka and if it materializes medvedev. That would be a great thing to get revenge for USO 16 and Cincy 19. Everything after would be gravy. He might be able to get through fed but by the time he gets to nadal he prob will a zombie.

The hell with that! When they step onto the court in a Grand Slam, it's WAR!!!
There's 4 levels of Stan...
There's level 1 mode where Stan plays as Mugrinka and seems inept and bored on the court.
There's level 2 Stanimal mode where he plays a controlled aggressive type of game.
Then there's StaniBULL mode which is level 3 where he hits with sheer power which even had Nadal crying at AO2014 begging for the massacre to end.
Then there's WARinka mode at level 4 where Stan goes apesh*t and takes his power level bar to the max. Nobody has any answers.
Djokovic played Mugrinka in set #1 of RG2015 and USO2016.
Stan turned into Stanimal mode level 2 and obliterated Djokovic in the remaining 3 sets.
Djoker hasn't even played StaniBULL mode yet let alone WARinka mode. And if he does, Djokovic better bring his mother and father onto the court to rescue him from the punishment.
Today, I think level 2 Stanimal mode should be sufficient.

Great match up for Stan this. He will feel he has nothing to lose so can play with freedom and the knowledge that he has beat Djokovic here before. That said, I don't see him winning. Djokovic in 4 sets. 7-5, 4-6, 6-3, 6-4

Stan has my full respect! He’s always a tough match up for Novak! I expect this to be no different! I’m confident Djoko will play well just hope it’s enough to get the win!

I agree. It’s a minor upset! Djoko is favourite but I wouldn’t say he’s a massive one! Stan is a big game player as we know!

I think the score will be tighter. I'm not sure Djokovic can keep the focus of winning consecutive sets against a red-lining Stan. Djoker's mind and game sees lulls and Stan tends to have hot moments where he can mentally shake Djokovic. Could be a 5 setter if Stanimal mode is switched to ON.
