Tell me we are not watching crap tennis

I'm very sorry that people such as Djokovic and Federer royally insult your delicate sensibilities so often, then.

It makes sense for them to say it regardless of believing in it, for marketing and psychological purposes. A common user, on the other hand, got to believe it if they cite ir as truth. And of course it's quite ugly to underappreciate peak performances in any sort of activity.

When Djokovic will lose a match (no idea when that will happen with the current tour though) you will probably be the first person to stop watching.

You should reflect on this and try not to underappreciate contemporary tennis so much just because you are emotionally biased toward the Fed-Hewitt-Roddick era.

After all, there was a lot of good tennis then, and there is still a lot of good tennis now.

I see silly errors, I report silly errors. I see good shots, I report good shots. And there's a lot of those but silly errors keep rearing their head oftener under pressure. The true younggen gripe is that they have less belief/focus than even Roddick. I do think their talent is little worse but straddled by weaker mentality, although they are young yet but it's been years. Only Medvedev seems to have a champion's mindset thus far. Obviously peak Fred himself was on another level, don't insult him with these comparisons.

I love this If one or 2 guys dominate its because of weak field, If no one dominates tennis is in decline. Maybe we have an plethora of really good players. And if so so be it. Enjoy the fact that matches are competitive instead of constantly deriding the current players might be nice to hear. They play pretty well, and most work really hard

The problem is both quality, consistency and lack of rivalries.

It becomes quite clear when Fedal doesnt play, there really are no rivalries. If you take away Djokovic, who is the favourite?? I mean, you really have 20-30 players that could win without Djokovic, i wouldnt have the slightest idea who to pick for second favourite in this field. Among the players from 20 to 32 years of age, you dont have a single rivalry. They might win a tournament, then lose R1 the next two tourneys. There is absolutely no consistency. Until recently, the biggest opponents of the Big3 was the second layer of their own generation. Now there are more young players in the final stages, but i fear its more because the older guard have retired/declined, more than the younger players stepping up.

As a Norwegian i enjoy young Casper reaching R3, but he still has a looong way to go... If he ever gets there...

Yeah, that's why he withdrew from USO. Try harder.
..а ты не подумал о таком варианте что просто может силенок не хватить на оба турнира вот он и перестраховался, или здоровье (ноги, колени и т.д.) уже конечно не то чтобы быть уверенным что сможет сыграть оба, в такие сжатые сроки

I’m really starting to think that it’s social media and other distractions. None of these guys seem to have the discipline and the hunger to be the best. They have it all, way too easy. They don’t have to earn their star status as much as the Big 3 had to. And if you look at the evolution of the Big 3, all of them were shaped by deeply personal experiences that steeled them and made them mental giants. Federer was considered an underperformer. When his former coach died in a tragic car accident, it affected him so deeply that he stopped taking his talent for granted, put his down and worked on becoming the champion he is today. Nadal was taught mental grit, discipline and resilience from a very early age by Uncle Toni. I remember reading about how he was made to play on bad courts and bad balls as a youngster to deal with tough situations, not give excuses, nor take anything for granted. And it’s well documented how Djokovic grew up in the midst of the Balkan war, fearing for his life almost on a daily basis. None of three guys ever take anything for granted. They know how fortunate they are to be in such a position and they prepare very hard to be at their very best, 100% of the matches, physically and mentally. Now compare that attitude to tweeting about a “funny” loss minutes after a heartbreaking 5 set loss. No wonder we have to deal with absolute clowns as “Next Gen”.

Nadal already showed he doesn't care about tennis anymore. For Djokovic records are everything, but Nadal is tired of chasing them.
And Nadal cares the most about... let me see... hmmmm....one more moment please... fishing, yes that must be fishing...

Tsitsipas was beaten by another emerging young player with fantastic potential. Coric reminds me of a young Djokovic. The NextGen are still early in their careers and have not reached their peak/prime. Consistency will come with time.
Bit I thought the 3 GOATS are responsible for their failures

LOL at fantastic potential. The guy turns 24 this year and doesn't even have a slam QF or a big title to his name.

I have been saying the Tsitsipas , Thiem , Zverev are not threats to Nadal and Djokovic and will never be. There is a vast gap in talent, Don’t let the occasional BO3 blind your mind .

And I cannot stop laughing at those who made Raonic the second favorite based on the 6-1 set in Cinci

Tsitsipas cannot get past Fabbiano And Coric, LOL

Berdych and Ferrer were and are better players .

All said , Djokovic level is way up . He will usually meet these players in QF, now he will meet them in finals because Roger , Rafa, Stan , Monfils and some more consistent players are missing

Tsistsi should learn from Rogie on how to close matches..oh wait...

Salty thread..!!!!

Dont know if you watched it or not, It was a very high quality match except for last 0.5 sets. Had everything..including the rally of the tournament when Coric returned a smash and what followed.
The match was high-quality. I'm just laughing at everyone who say that the 3 GOATS are responsible for the failures of the Next Gen.

And LOL at comparing Tsits to Fed. Fed doesn't choke away slam matches to freaking Borna Coric even at 38.

Damn, I didn't know it was 40-0 on his serve  Dafuk? You can't even accidentally win one of those? lol
He accidentally lost them. Coric didn't win them, Tsitsi threw them all away with stupid errors.

My regret is going to sleep before the magical choke unraveled.

Djokovic isn’t being challenged hence why he looks so sharp, and he does look insanely sharp.

But he isn’t being tested.

Look how Struff rolled over in that last set. He couldn’t wait for it to be over.

The youngsters all reek of fear when they face Djokovic.

Without Federer and Nadal, only Medvedev, Thiem and RBA even look like they are up for the scrap when it comes to Djoker.

The rest are like origami; fold under pressure.
Interesting comment and reminds me of what the WTA had years ago where many players had the ability to beat Serena but simply crumbled under the pressure of beating an ATG like Serena. Whether it's being up a break or a set etc, the opponents just crumble and want out.

the tennis is fine, just like there was a lot of fine tennis back in 04–07. The problem is merely that Djokovic is so much better than the rest now that he's an odds-on favorite even before a slam begins, much like Federer was in the pomp of the Hewitt-Roddick era. Some more parity would make for make for more excitement, now like then.
Federer wasn't 33 back then. At 33 to still be a lock for a slam title is really sad.

Yeah, I didn't really get the comparison with 2004-2007 Federer. That period could be compared to Djokovic's 2014-2016 when he had weak competition during his prime, even weaker than Federer's because he didn't have to face prime Nadal on clay. But what's happening now is a totally new level of a weak era.

But let's actually not accept Tsitsipas as a failure yet. I don't exactly like him but he actually will end up being quite successful and he has enough potential to becme a multi slam winner.
When in reality he is not any better than Hewitt/Roddick/Stan.

Which makes Vinci's win all the more impressive.

1000%. Could've easily crumbled under the pressure, her first slam SF, up against the ATG, no shame if she got obliterated but she pulled off the win. It's why I feel the same way about Stosur's title run to the 2011 USO, especially since Stosur won their previous slam meeting at the French Open in 2010.
