nalbo was bound to have an off-day sooner or later, but I didn't expect murray to play this well ... the best match he's played since the nadal match @ AO ?

Considering that Murray has seldom played that well since the Australian Open, I'd say yes.

Nalbandian was way too passive. You never got the sense that he was doing something to change the way the match was going.

he didn't play too passive. He went for too much at times and at times was just unable to clear the net , just way too inconsistent ...

I make Nadal a slight favourite against Murray the courts are slower in Toronto their one match in Toronto in 2008 when Murray was in fine form went on to Win Cincy and reach US Open final, Nadal won 7-6 6-3/

Would Murray go in as favorite against Nadal tomorrow????

On hard courts i'd say yes.

Let's see how Nadal plays today... if he completely dominates Kohly... I'd give the edge to Nadal.

What I've seen of Nadal this week, that 08 Nadal was better. If Murray plays like he did today, it would probably be his match. And of course Nadal still has to win his QF.

Yeah but, Nadal was playing even better that year.

After that awful match against Monfils, I don't think anybody did. But that's tennis.
But every match you have to prepare for your opponent's potential top ability, not just his last performance.

Besides, in the first set against Monfils in the previous match the signs were there that Murray was veering towards good form I thought.

Murray can win Toronto and Cincy but if then Federer wins the USO this year it won't really matter who won the tuneups.

Last year showed that. Murray had a great win over del Potro in the Montreal final last year, but we know how they fared at the US Open. Murray capitulated in awful fashion against Cilic in the Round of 16 while del Potro went on to win his first major, beating Nadal and Federer in his last 2 matches.

Funny how the poll suddenly got a bunch of votes for murray in 2. when the match statred, there were only two votes for murray in two.

anyways, great match by the Murray Man.

Shouldn't the poll close before the match starts?
How could anyone be so self deceitful as to vote on a match during, or worst still, after the match!

Agreed. I'm starting to think that his goal in Toronto this year was the QF

and I think that is a good strategy, b/c people are constantly slamming nalby with the "no slam" thing. He can't do it yesterday, so USO is prolly the best chance he has left so he's aiming to peak there.

IMHO

Murray was out for some time because of a wrist problem after his loss to Cilic, just saying....

This. Nadal was playing at 20% this Wimbledon. He didn't want to embarrass the Scot in front of his home crowd. What a humble champion!

I think Nadal was at 5% this year at Wimbledon. Nadal at 20% probably loses a few games, but doesn't concede the amount of sets he did this year.

You expected Murray to win that easily?

I expected him to win in straight sets. Maybe a closer score. Their only 2 previous matches Murray choked away beating Nalbandian at Wimbledon when he was only 17 or 18, and the other was a win for Nalbandian during a hot indoor streak. Nalbandian is laughably overrated on TW though. All this talk he was suddenly in word beating form since he won a small tournament is kind of a carryover of what has been going on for him for years.

Yeah but Del Po was dead tired from winning DC the week before and pulled out of Cincy after that match.
