Poor Ana she had a good run and almost pulled of a big scalp hopefully the missed opportunity hasn't crushed her morale.

Good win for Sharapova today... played crappy first set, but then turned around. This should lift her confidence even higher.

I am hoping for Masha - Vera final. Will root for Vera though :)

Ana tried very hard this year. She doesn't deserve this much vitriol and scorn.

If anything she should treat this as a confidence booster, after 2 bad years of injuries and she can get to this point against Kim, she knows she can make it with just a little bit more.

There's not much hate on Ana around here... one thing I recognize with her is that she's trying and she's almost succeding to her come back... this alone deserves respect.

Just THAT loss is such a huge set back but I strongly wish she proves wrong to have a strong clay season... this is her surface, field and competition on there is very weak so there a many many possibilities for her.

Kimmie with her shoulder thing and just attitude overall seems like she willn't be on tour for any longer... Maria has stepped up her game... Vika SEEMS to have found her old self again... Andrea has confirmed that she's a top player...

Safina has found a light... Jankovic still sucks Lol but is much better than end-2010... just misses Ana a bit more... and the movement taking place on the WTA would be Tsunamic for the pushers and undeserving clowns.

Well for what its worth Ana said this after the match.

Yesterday's match was so thrilling. On the one hand I am gutted I didn't take my chances, but on the other, I'm happy to see that I can compete and come really close to beating the player I consider to be the best in the world right now. Sure, it will take a few days to get over, but there are many positives from this performance. It was a fun tournament for sure.

Great win Vika both my girls but Maria was just Fed club's level in a worser tennis nightmare movie... but anyways she should be proud SF, F and top 10... Maria's best 5 weeks in ages.

As for Victoria... seriously it's time for the majors... it's really time to freaking do something in the majors... the talent is there just need better nerves and most probably serve...

Even if I don't believe that much myself but Wimbledon... RG is for Ana. ROFL !!

Maria only held serve once. This should have been a 6-1 6-1 beatdown by Vika. Maria did the exact same thing vs Wozniacki at Indian Wells. She has no idea what she'll get from her serve. I've been saying that her serve's a mess for over two years. When the serve's working, she can play aggressive with better results. But when it's not, just look up her USO 2009 match vs Oudin for reference.

Only in the WTA can Serena not play for 9 months and in that time fall out and back in the top 10.

What a joke dani and aggie won the doubles. huber is supposed to be the best primarily doubles on tour? and she loses to two overachieving girls who have no sense of what to do at the net in singles? i saw daniela shank at least 3 volleys and 5 swinging volleys in her match against caro!!!!!

Someone pointed this out to her on Twitter and she seems just as confused.

She only has 4 tournaments on her ranking.

Wimbledom, FO, Madrid & Rome.

That is pretty odd indeed. The gals in the 4-20 range are just not getting it done consistently right now. Only Woz, Kim and Vera win regularly.

The good news is that it's because the gals finally have the parity that was missing for so long. It's just really hard to dominate the game right now. Overall, I think that's a good thing.

Ya that is a little surprising, even taking into account her being reigning Wimbledon champion and having QF points from the French I would have thought due to all the struggles she has had to keep her from the game that she would be solidly outside the top 10. But seeing as some of the other girls can only seem to do well in spurts save for Woz, Kim, Vera as has been said its not to surprising. After the French though she'll tumble down, and if she doesn't play Wimledon or should she play not do well...she'll free fall BIG time....

I never really cared for Sharapova. I resented how the media immediately hailed her as the "The Next Big Thing". But, I always respected her ability to compete.

Its a shame, she is a shell of herself. She is like a pitcher who won a cy young who blows out their shoulder and ends up being a 5th starter on a mediocre team. She is become a female lleyton hewitt.

Just sad.

Serena will have 0 points after Wimbledon. But she'll get all the wild cards she wants, assuming she actually returns.

lol the funny thing is actually that she´s still Top 10 even though she didn´t play a single match in 9 months.
There you see the huge gap between her and the rest.

Would be great to see her come back.
Does she have a protected ranking?

People can argue all they like over whether the 90's or 2000's were weak or strong eras for the ATP, actually, I don't believe the ATP ever had a weak era, but if this doesn't define a weak era in the WTA, I don't know what does.

Venus Williams will travel to Germany with United States Fed Cup team, but is unlikely to play, a source told Tennis.com. Williams hasn’t played a match since injuring her right hip at the Australian Open.

On Tuesday, U.S. Captain Mary Joe Fernandez will officially announce the team that will face Germany in a Fed Cup playoff April 16-17 on indoor clay. Teenager Christina McHale has said that she has been asked to go to Germany but is unsure as to whether she will be asked to play. Bethanie Mattek-Sands, Liezel Huber and Melanie Oudin have been part of Fernandez’s core group over the past two years, but Oudin is in slump and doesn’t like to play on clay. Fernandez also picked doubles standout Vania King for the U.S, team that fell to Belgium in February, so she does have some options, but Germany features a strong team that includes Miami semifinalist Andrea Petkovic, No. 35 Julia Goerges, Sabine Lisicki and Anna-Lena Groenefeld.

Venus has not played Fed Cup since 2007, but must at least show up for a tie this year in order to maintain her eligibility for the 2012 Olympics and not have appeal her status to the Olympic Committee. – Matthew Cronin

Time for shopping in Germany, Venus.

Good question. I don't know if she deserves one, and I'm sure the WTA would be horrified at the possibilities if she doesn't. Serena just floating in the draw isn't good as she could take out one of the only few other marquee players early or she loses early to someone like Clijsters. Either way you're setting yourself up for less-than-stellar later rounds.

I never thought I would miss Serena and Venus blasting everyone off the court, until they weren't there to blast everyone off the court.

Does she even need a protected ranking. Even with 0 points, what does that put her in the top 100?

Clijsters out for 4 weeks and will miss Madrid. She already stated she won't play Beijing and Tokyo this year. Unless Vera steps up (which history says she won't), Woz basically will be #1 the rest of the year unless some other WTA girls develop brains (I know.. foreign concept).

McHale KILLED Kleybanova. Alisa is having an AWFUL year so far.

Oh, and Oudin lost. MJF would be crazy to have her on the Fed Cup team when they play Germany.

Kim only has 650 points to defend between now and summer break. She 'just' needs to win RG and SW19 and she has about 11500 points. I think that should be enough to be #1! ;)

Btw, Kirilenko lost to Tatishvili and hasn't yet managed to win 2 matches in a row this year. But maybe her expectatitons are too low for an upgrade?

That's what she gets for still being with Andreev.

I don't see Kim winning RG. She's clearly better on hardcourts than clay. Clijsters is not a world beater on grass either... Vera beat her at Wimby last year from 1 set down.
