Funny how some players are so mentally tough early in their careers, and then when they approach and pass 30 they are a shadow of their former selves in the mental department. Hewitt is probably the best example, but even Nadal and Djokovic (who was a mental titan in 2011 and most of 2012) aren't nearly as mentally rock-solid as they used to be.

I know it's odd. I felt Hewitt wanted it too badly at the USO. Not sure about here at Newport.

I couldn't watch the third set after that disastrous second, I'm very pleased hewitt won that in the end (although he really dragged it on). Hewitt has now won all grass court tournaments (until Munich gets added next year)

Now win the doubles!

Hewitt now equals Federer with the highest number of 250 wins: 22 each and he rounds up his titles tally to a nice round 30!

If this really is going to be his last year on tour, he's obviously determined to go out in style! :)

Really happy Hewitt pulled it off. That's his 2nd title of the year. It would be neat if he got the doubles title as well with Guccione.

This tournament seems to have its own specialists. Mahut won the title last year and also won the doubles title with Roger-Vasselin. Rajeev Ram did the same thing in 2009.

At a combined 68 years and 10 months, Hewitt/Karlovic was the oldest tour-level final since 1977 ;)
