I have very little to add but this:

What a slam!
Revitalized heroes, mugging mugs, mto'ing mto'ers, djoking djokers and so on and so forth.

I left 2016 feeling somewhat dejected. Mighty apushin' was the new #1. The new guard wasn't stepping up. Etc etc.
Bleak. The forecast was bleak.

Then this little gem of an AO came along.
In lieu of #nextgen, let's just enjoy #evergreeen.

So, did that cooler green version of Fed's shirt just never get to see the light of day? Six rounds, and the blurred newsprint. Grand unveiling in the final?

Venus V Serena in Women's final. If the men's ends up being Federer-Nadal, it's going to feel like some kind of time warp.
Serena,,,,,,,,,,,if you reading this,,,,,,you must give this one to Venus if you love her..........This is her LAST chance at a major..............and she may have to retire soon as well.

Anyone watching the mens' doubles final? I know this is a singles thread, but there is no doubles thread and I think most of the discussion about the final is in match-specific threads now.

Kontinen/Peers up a break, looking for their first slam together after winning the WTF last year. The Bryan brothers have won an incredible 16 majors together.

I'm cheering for Peers/Kontinen, the Aussie of course! :p

Me too! It would be nice to see them win a major. Particularly nice for Peers after Murray went on to win the Aus Open with Soares just after their partnership ended.

Anyway, first set is theirs!

Kontinen/Peers have won the last 3 big tournament.
Paris Masters
ATP Finals
Australian Open

They also reached the final in the previous big tournament which was the Shanghai Masters!

I predicted there will be a surprise winner

But is Federer a surprise winner :) ?

I think under the circumstances of being 35 and out for 6 months prior, then yes. Similar to the man himself, I had him out in the quarters. Full credit. Great performance by both him and Nadal to get there.

Sent to Roger Federer's manager yesterday, before the final (I wouldn't expect a reply:)):

Dear Mr. Godsick,

I am the messenger from the gods of tennis.

Too late to save Grigor, but if you kindly intervene to convey the contents, early enough for Roger:

Dimitrov is still too "Nadalized" - stay on baseline, rally with him, even serve him "nice" topspin -
to beat Nadal
Soderling has written the book on the matter: you must overpower him, get flattish,
hopefully at least Roger gets it.

Valverdu hasn't done enough, not by far, even though there's progress.

Nice to see you all out there in Oz supporting Roger.

Best.

What's the big deal anyway with reopening some threads? This forum has a storage space for a reason.

And it's not like there's any interesting topic to debate these days anyway.

It's incredible how some actually made Raonic the favorite for a slam

When was that? I was following the betting odds throughout AO and IIRC once Murray went out Fed and Rafa alternated as betting favourites (Rafa was the overall favourite but Fed would takeover every other day as his half played first).
