Sock is done.
he was already packing his bag.Sock is done.
'Murica killing each other...there was a chance for two Yanks in the top 10 before Fritz assassinated Querrey and now this will bump off Sock too if Stan wins Marseille.Don't look now but Really Opelka has secured the break in the decider!

With a first ever listing in the top 10within reach, he embarked on this ambitious 3-tournament NA swing and looked determined to go deep here in the first set (6-2) vs Fritz. He just got beat by a game THF.Jack seems to be badly hungover after his season-ending heroics last year (1R,2R,2R exits in his 1st 3 tournaments of 2018)! Big Sam maybe saving his energies and focus on defending his title south of the border (down Mexico way)?
No one is watching the Shapo match? Annacone just said, "in my opinion, this young man is the future of tennis."
I hear ya! I haven't seen a Shapo match since the the autumn and he's improved. He's playing more aggressively and coming in on short balls. Still over hitting, but his point construction has really gotten better.i certainly hope so.
If someone like Zverev is the future of tennis then I’ll probably stop watching tennis.
Raonic is a non-factor at this point of his "comeback," weighing about 30 pounds more than a normal playing weight. I doubt Shapo can win the whole thing, but sure hope so.Raonic is out of the Delray Beach tournament, who will win it now? http://lastwordontennis.com/2018/02/21/delray-beach-contenders-delpo/

Donaldson 3-2 on serve second set. Commentators think Shapovalov could do well on clay with more time for his big groundstrokes.

So far it's his worst surface by some margin, and he lost first round in his four tournaments on the surface last year on the challenger tour and RG qualifying, and also got straight-setted by Coric earlier this year. His low-margin style and lack of patience hasn't translated well to the surface lately, and he prefers faster courts.I could see his game translate to clay. He's got the creativity for point construction and he could run around and get behind the ball for that forehand.
I agree but I think there is no better surface to sharpen his gameSo far it's his worst surface by some margin, and he lost first round in his four matches on the surface last year on the challenger tour and RG qualifying, and also got straight-setted by Coric earlier this year. But he's young, so things could change.
yes, it could teach him a lot about patience and consistencyI agree but I think there is no better surface to sharpen his game
You may be right, he's up a break in the second now. He didn't hang his head or give up after losing the first set as many of the young guns do.Shapo is all about losing first set and then coming back.
Shapo is already mentally stronger than Dimitrov. You may be right, he's up a break in the second now. He didn't hang his head or give up after losing the first set as many of the young guns do.
They showed a graphic of his hit points on his groundstrokes and he's way too defensive. I think he's ranked where he should be, around #50. He's nothing special at all.So what’s the word on JD? He’s also young, definitely giving a potential future slam winner a run for his money here. How far is this guy going? @stringertom ?

Shapo's determination and grit slightly (I stress "slightly) remind me of young Rafa. Both being lefty's doesn't hurt either. He's not anywhere as good as teen Nadal, but at least he competes hard on every point and doesn't give up. It's a pretty low bar to compliment a pro tennis player for not giving up, but the young ones all seem to do that now, except Shapo and Chung.Yeah that's his pattern. He's not cut from the same safe space material as so many others are. He'll compete the whole match.
Annoying players in identical pink/black kit. Couldn’t Nike arrange one player to have scheme in reverse, black shorts, pink left chest?
He does have some characteristics that young Rafa had but watch this and you’ll see that he plays eerily similar to teen Fedr:Amazing stuff from Shapo right there. Rafaesque.
I don't think Donaldson can break him now, Shapo coming on too strong. But please don't go to a tie break Shapo.I think Shapo will take the third pretty easily, Donaldson looks deflated. I just hate this weak, throw-in-the-towel attitude in young players.
I was expecting '18 to be a breakout year for him but he has struggled on HC, his best surface. The year is young though. I'm not confident about clay or grass but he did make 3R Wimby with an early retirement by Tipsy and a 4-set win vs grassGOAT Lorenzi before Thiem clubbed him.So what’s the word on JD? i think he's playing slightly more conservative. When he's on he's on was last year. Now I think he wants to try to win more when he's not on.Shapo doesn't seem to have the shotmaking from last year. I can see this going to TB with Donaldson being more consistent. Although a couple of points ago it was 92-92.
You know Shapo's something special when, as @Hitman has pointed out, he can unite all four fan bases: Fed, Rafa, Djoker and Murray fans almost all like Denis. If you are a Shapo fan then be prepared to never to be bored
