Some really outstanding strokes by Görges (there was one in the 1st set tie-break that is about the stroke of the year!) The kind of that basic player like Vekic hardly has ever hit.
This is far from being over but yes Görges is a master choker so... expecting to be unhappy after this match… :/

Belinda's defense has also improved leaps and bounds since I've started following her. Her serve not so much, even if she is defending her second serve relatively well today. But all her ground game is clicking - I can't stress that enough.

I'm starting to see why Bencic had a 3-1 record against Osaka. I think the commie pointed out correctly that Bencic is used to handling Osaka's pace and in fact likes it and directs the balls well - adding the fact that Bencic likes to hit very early.
There's noticeable less fire in Osaka today. She thrives on that energy from the crowd.

She was not 'slower' than her R3 match, she was playing an opponent who hugs the baseline and takes the ball early instead of a 15-year old who sits behind the baseline and loops up balls.
