Have to see if she can get her game back together. Bertens playing really well at the
end of the set.

Actually, I want to see Bertens winning this. The woman is just too good on clay to not have a clay Premier Mandatory to her name.

Interesting pattern in the first set: Halep using her crosscourt FH, believing she threw the kitchen sink against Bertens and that there was no way in hell she could retrieve it, only to see Kiki hitting a BH DTL winner.

That serve coming through for Kiki when she needs it!

Ouch. Can't believe that Kiki hit such an ugly/wild overhead, hits Simona on the fly well behind the baseline and gets the point. Speaking of ugly... can't stand Kiki's WTE serve. Amazed that she is the ace leader with such a serve motion.

Bertens wins Madrid, robs Halep of the number 1 ranking.

Always a pleasure seeing Bertens playing on clay. Deep and heavy balls, drop shots and lobs that would make Andy Murray proud and consistency, so much consistency. It was a good afternoon, with my club also reaching the european roller hockey finals!

Gosh, I do have missed watching some tennis. A person swears work won't get in the way, but it's a lie, unfortunately. The time and will just aren't there sometimes...

Sorry to see Simo lose tho Bertens was really overdue for a big clay title. She’s such a wonderful performer on that surface.

Halep now an underwhelming 18-17 in finals :cautious:
But at least she is reaching those finals (even when she's sick). Osaka runs more hot & cold than Halep. Since the beginning of 2018, Naomi has been in 3 finals at the Slam/PM/P5 level. Halep has reached 6 finals = twice as many in the same period.

Of course the big diff is that they've both reached 2 slam finals in that time period but Osaka won both whereas Halep was a runner-up in her AO final (where she suffered from heat exhaustion).

Near the end, Halep was stressing out - frowning, grimacing, clenching her teeth. Bertens was relaxed and smiling. That'll do it every time.

Thanks :)

Honestly, this was such a stupid decision.
It's not a decision. It written in the laws/rules of tennis. Same thing goes for a wild serve -- no matter where you are standing.

If the serve hits the server or their partner, it is a fault. But if any other live ball hits a player, that player loses the point.

Bertens looking for a Kerber like late career surge and she’s delivering so far.

Up to #4 with her second Premier+ title in 12 months. Has no points to defend in Rome and only 3R points at the French Open where she has to now be one of the favourites for the title. She could leave Paris #1. She’ll move to #3 in the live rankings on Monday as Kerber will lose her QF points as she withdrew from Rome.
