The man is an absolute legend. Djokovic didn't play his best today, but this was a huge mental block cleared for Fed. He can still hang with and beat the best at 38!

That's 2 matches in a row now where Federer has dominated Djokovic. The Wimbledon outcome was an anomaly as Federer was the better player which was reflected in all the key stats.

Didn’t play anyone until he got to great grandfather Federer and then couldn’t earn a breakpoint against the old man until late in the 4th set even though Federer was serving like 115 mph. Then, GreatGrandPaerer benevolently gave him the match that was in the Swiss Octocentuarian’s hands the entire time.

The only thing that matters is who wins the match. Amazing how Federer easily disposed of Djokovic in a mickey Mouse tournament. S%*t the bed at Wimbledon, couldn’t play the big points properly and that’s what the sport is all about.

As for “that’s what the sport is about,” no, it’s not. This was a one time fluke anomaly. Try to find one other match in which the player who “lost”:
—Won 14 more more points than his opponent, won 15 more return points, broke 4 more times than his opponent.

With that win Federer also single handedly defended with his YE #1 result vs his biggest rivals and his weeks at #1 record. The only reason why Federer sits atop of the tennis records is .... Federer.

Wasn't just that. Federer ruined Djokovic's chance to finish as YE #1 and tie Sampras' record for a 6th YE #1. That's pretty relevant. And now Djokovic goes into 2020 to defend 2000 points at the Australian Open so there's not much margin for error. He's got basically no breathing room.

Federer going a putrid 4/23 in BPs against Djokovic at US Open 2015 is another telling stat that Federer simply can create numerous opportunities but not capitalize on them when he faces Djokovic. That's actually almost as bad as Federer going 1/17 in BPs against Nadal at Roland Garros 2007.

It's not a Mickey mouse tournament. It's a major event. I believe it's considered the second most prestigious event behind the slams so higher in importance than the masters 1000 events.

To me, this is the absolute most significant thing out of this WTF. Djokovic will need to finish #1 next year to be able to tie Sampras (although Djokovic did finish ITF #1 in 2013). Which is extremely possible if he can hold his form. The other extremely significant thing is Nadal ties Federer YE#1 count and is only one slam away from tying him (although slam count to me is mostly insignificant).
I think the only reason Federer stays around anymore is to give himself a chance to defend his legacy (which quite honestly doesn't need defending) by preventing Djokovic and Nadal from further taking chunks out of his backside.

These are the posts that hurt the most. The ones that he should had a good long hard look at and sanely concluded that his game needed to be altered to beat these guys. He really should've had a better plan against Nadal by 2007 and a better plan against Novak by 2012. His story, all 90 square inches of it, will be one of truly epic stubbornness.
Pretty much. All three of them know how much work it takes to stay in this war and seeing them sit around that table having a casual chat about it like it's nothing is just surreal. They must absolutely hate each other. Can you imagine Mac, Jimmy, Ivan, Borg, Becker, Sampras, Agassi etc sitting around like that when it just keeps dragging on and on and on... and on... and on...? I honestly think Fed might be the last one to retire.
