OK OK not sure it's worth a thread, but it's done!

In the upper part of the draw, nicely respecting the initial seeds.

H2H is clear 4-0 for Roger. But Manny got 2 sets. And today he is a better player.

Today Mannarino played a surprising match against Shapo, very solid in the last part. Yes, surprise is key word in Manny's game, many times he comes out with a different shot that you are not expecting. The matchup was not very good for him, but managed to turn it around with a clever game.

Now, the point is, will Roger allow Adrian into the match?
Be sure of one thing, Mannarino will look for the hole, and if he finds it, he will dig into it.

This is a very interesting match for Roger, to see how solid is his tennis in all the parts of the game, because that is what Mannarino will explore: Each part of his game, to see if there is a hole to dig into.

Day 27 of october at 19 local time.

My vote goes for Roger 4 to 8 (that should have been 4 not 3 can't edit it). But I'd love to see a little fight!

Mannarino is better than either Tiafoe or Paire, but Roger has a cold and wasn't especially sharp today.

Roger still comes through 6-4, 6-3.

Anyone think Fed can possibly still add new wrinkles to his game? Wouldn’t put it past him but man... reason I ask is because would this be the match to beta test something? He’s solved Nadal but perfectionists never rest.

No matter what, this season’s winning percentage rivals his heyday. Expecting it to rise tomorrow. 6-3, 6-2.

Roger has a cold !! No wonder he was looking a bit off in the second match.

A cold takes time, I believe, not something that passes away like that. Are you sure it's a cold and not that thing he had at WO ?

Beta test is more likely during training. I don't think it's a good idea to do it against a top 30 player that is having an excelent HC season. I am sure Roger will enter court with the correct respect of the opponent and will go for his match with the right intensity and concentration, as he does against any opponent. This is his perfect recepie to win the match.
I feel like sometimes happens to Roger that he gets so full of confidence to overdo during the match. Which is not always good.:)

I think Roger's assertive and aggressive game style will be the perfect answer to Mannarino's more ensnaring and defensive game style. Mannarino needs time to trap his opponents and construct a point, Roger literally won't give him that time, or a readable consistent playstyle. I think Mannarino stands no chance. If Roger can play like he has the past two rounds I expect Mannarino's serve broken left right and centre.

Yep! It is cold. High altitude thing.

If Federer reaches the final against Del Po he should play with a bandage on his back and on his nose. He's lost a few matches to Del Po and that would provide the perfect excuse in case he lost again.

At the press conference afterwards he can say now is not the right moment to talk about it.

Yeah, just like Shanghai and Miami. Notice how you skipped over those.

That particular SABR point was a ridiculous one from fed. 106 mph 2nd serve, placed perfectly wide and he gets it back that way !
My jaw dropped on that one. Could not believe that I was still seeing innovation. Opened my eyes to possibilities.

Well, he added the SABR in 2015, which sadly he doesn't use anymore. :( Obviously we have his "new" topspin BH this year with his wicked angles and pace. Of course he can add things to his arsenal: chipping and charging on second serves regularly and how about using his drop shot ROS!?

well, I had seen that SABR in the matches before the final. But this one was a pretty difficult pickup.
I had also seen jmac do something close (hit and charge or pickup and charge), so wasn't that surprised, but he wasn't taking it was early as fed was.

Why was Becker so shell-shocked, then? Could even see him recoiling, and mouthing, "What was that?!"

maybe because he didn't expect federer to do it ?

See here : mac taking it very early on the way to upsetting Becker himself in AO 92.
(and it isn't chip and charge)

Mac was incredible, and he would've been 32-33 at that time. But the ground clearance when Fed is taking his is virtually nil by comparison. I mean, I think it's literally inches off the ground.

Something hilarious about the guttural German utterance of "Der Ma-es-tro." :D

I think Fed is going to use a lot sliced low bounce FH on Manny's FH. Mannarino does not like to deal with that ball.

The acoustics in this building are stellar. Every blow amplified. What's with the tinny net, btw?

And in that last game, there was a BH from the baseline that was absolutely thunderous.

What did he have at Wimbledon?

Can someone explain why Fed's game causes so much trouble for everyone? For example, great players can normally play their game and hit their routine shots against other good players easily. They can keep doing this and win matches. However, those same great players all of a sudden struggle to play their game and also struggle to hit their shots against Federer. Is it because of Federer's variety, foot work, and shot making ability?
