Why do people still question if Serena is the greatest of all time?

Because it's a valid question maybe? Honestly, I don't understand WHY she gets called the greatest as much as she does considering everything. She has perhaps showcased the highest level of play sure, but she doesn't lead in majors or time spent at #1 so I don't consider her the greatest, and many others don't either.

H2H doesn't matter. What matters is winning when it counts. How many H2H trophies do you have sitting on your top shelf?

You're kidding, right? Henin is a 7-time slam champion and has 43 WTA titles.

That's a great career in and of itself. Then I'll remind you of her retirements.

Li Na actually played pretty well, not too many errors. Serena just played like a different person from double break down.

Man, that was 1MM in! Great challenge from Li Na, I feel like she's been getting robbed on line calls today.

I will give Li credit for not completely imploding. Serena still wins this in straights though

Yeah, H2H doesn't matter which is why the ATP puts a ton of work into it's own site to track AND highlight the feature on the main page.

Common sense.

It's an interesting statistical tool but it really has no bearing on a player's legacy unless you're having silly GOAT debates.

Li is a sad excuse for a #2 player. Soon to be 1-11 against Serena.

Then again Azarenka and Sharapova aren't really any better against Serena either.

Because she only faces mugs

Serena had to face some of the strongest competition WTA's seen in the first half of her career. Graf had a free reign after Seles was stabbed as well.

Chris and Martina only really had eachother as rivals, the others just couldn't compete or were headcases like Mandlikova.

I picked Li before the match. Though it looks like she will lose, she did very well, just got overwhelmed, like Pova. Everybody else though she will have beaten.

Ni La is a great player however Serena is still GOAT level.

Li is a talented, athletic player. Mentally she's a bit off at times but how often have we heard that before? Leave her alone, she's a much better No. 2 than Zvonareva or Jankovic or whoever the Number 2's were back in 2009-2011!

By the same token we can say Graf was eventually surpassed by a newer generation. This is the normal way to go out, you start winning some and losing some against the up and comers.

This used to be the way things happened, the normal passing of the guard. One generation's decline is the next generation's blossoming.

What we see now, both in the women's and the men's game, is the uncanny longevity of the past generation's greats, namely Federer and Serena Williams.

Maybe they're just that good and that's why no generation can ever overtake them until they're wheelchair bound. You're free to believe that.

But I'm a skeptic and I tend to believe that the newer generation is so poor that these players over 30 are still allowed to stay at the top of the game without breaking a sweat (especially Williams).

Much like Western countries in terms of the economy, this could be the first generation of tennis that's weaker than the previous one. And that says more about how bad this generation is than about how good Serena Williams is.

She's been given a free pass no previous generation could aspire to: to play a field that's weaker than the field she played in her formative years. That's why she's accumulating all these titles past her 30th birthday.

The momentum swing was just huge in this match. As soon as Serena started going, it became one way traffic immediately.

Wow this match got really boring after Li Na couldn't put it away at 5-4 in the first set. Serena wasn't playing all that well at all this tournament.

Some new WTA women seriously need to step it up, I'm tired of Serena winning everything.

Serena now has won Miami title more than any player, male or female. Congratulations to Serena!
