3rd BP for Hanescu in this game.

Wow... who was it that thinks Murray is good on clay?

This is horrible. Hard to believe he grew up playing on this stuff.

Murray looks dressed for Wimbledon.

Don't start making excuses for him whoever beats him will have had the same amount of tournaments played.

And the same number of matches played in 3 consecutive weeks? It's the amount of matches what makes players tired, not the amount of tournaments played. Your logic doesn't make sense.

Murray holds serve, I'd expect him to settle down now and find his feet a bit more.

Andreev up an early break out on court 9

Nalby broke back against PHM, but PHM just broke again

and holy god, what the hell was that XD

great point

If he plays 3 weeks in a row as he's supposed to do, I expect something like last year. He should skip Barcelona, otherwise he will be exhausted or maybe injured in Rome.

You are like a broken, really irritating record.

I like how people are talking smack about Murray's clay court game based on him having a bit of trouble against Hanescu. Hanescu is no joke, he beat Nalbandian at the French Open not so long ago. Besides, it's the first clay court match for Murray since last year's Roland Garros. He's bound to struggle a bit.

I think we can expect Murray to be one of the top 8 players on clay this season. He has all the tools to play well, his confidence is very high at the moment and by the time the French comes around he will likely be a threat to go deep. By that time I would say he would be capable of pushing Nadal to the max.

If you think about it Hewitt's given Nadal problems on clay before. Murray I think does everything better than Hewitt and has a more cerebral game as well. I wouldn't be surprised to see him beat Nadal at Hamburg. Though Roland Garros is Nadal's playground.

Murray looks like he is settled and will win this comfortably now.

PHM takes the second set 6-3 against Nalbandian.

Andreev is up 2 breaks vs Martin Vassallo Arguello and Monaco is up a break against Robredo.

Three Argentinians on courts now.

Yeah Hewitt troubled Nadal on clay... in 2007. You are stuck in time I'm afraid.

No doubt Nadal's clay court has improved since then. But he is still essentially the same player. Especially once he comes under attack he can revert to his old style of play since that is what he's most convenient with. Notice how Verdasco and Nalbandian bullied Nadal into playing far behind his own baseline. For times in both matches, Nadal looked like he was back in 2007.

Why are you talking now about matches that happened on hard courts? If Murray and Nadal play in this tournament it's on clay.

Well, Nadal can also be bullied on clay though it's much harder. Djokovic did that last year in Hamburg. Mathieu and Davydenko have done that in previous years.

In previous years. And it didn't do Djokovic much good in Hamburg did it? And Djokovic's and Murray's games are not very much alike, you were first comparing Murray to Hewitt, and Hewitt troubled (didn't even beat) Nadal on clay years ago, so it's not an indication of what Murray can do against Nadal. In fact I doubt he even gets to play him.

Maybe not. I suspect it might take Murray a while to get used to the clay - a couple weeks, maybe more.

Hewitt lost 7-5 in the third to Nadal on clay a couple years back and Nadal's not THAT different a player now than he used to be. Sure, Hewitt didn't win the match and I think that's more reflective of Nadal having ultimate confidence on clay as opposed to Hewitt significantly lacking in game.

Murray on the other hand with his recent successes against Nadal (yes they are on hard but they still count to a degree), his fearlessness of the Spaniard and his self-belief can put a lot of pressure on Nadal. The question is, will he be able to play to the best of his abilities on clay this year?

The reason I brought up Nadal's struggles on hardcourts against Verdasco and Nalbandian is that those two were able to negate Nadal's relatively recently acquired aggressive mindset by bullying him around the court. They forced Nadal into playing his '06/'07 style where he was just comfortable spinning balls into play and waiting for errors.

But you can't compare matches on hardcourts to matches on clay when talking about Nadal, it's completely different.

And Nadal is much better now than in 2007, do you remember what happened on RG last year right?

And Murray may not fear Nadal, but Nadal doesn't fear Murray either: IW final Nadal d. Murray 6-2, 6-1

does anyone have a stream? There is nothing on channelsurfing.net and atdhe has something else. I was able to watch some matches yesterday, but today there seems to be nothing.

lol batz xD

from what I saw I thought he was moving pretty well on the clay, Hanescu made him chase down enough droppers to test that out heh. It's a solid win, I think he'll find things comfy enough vs Cilic too.

Andreev serving for the match out on c9

streams are dotted around, betfair is pretty reliable, otherwise it's an assortment of others showing various coverage

I can never quite decide whether slice is a good play on clay or not. What do you guys think?

Depends on how well its hit, naturally its going to be as effective on clay as it is on grass but it can still be used as a get out of jail shot.

If its hit deep with not much air, it can be useful in being part of a constructing winning rally.
