I thought the competition got way better in 2008. Now that Federer is winning stuff again we're back to a weak era, huh?

Yeah, because Murray is really a threat to Federer, right? Keep telling yourself this is going to be even a remotely competitive match.

Well, the h2h between the two of them is 8-8. Obviously Fed's had the advantage in the big matches, but there's always a first time.

Djokovic had never beaten Nadal in a final prior to 2011. I'm sure plenty of people thought that their early matches last year wouldn't be remotely competitive...

I just don't understand what people want. 2004-2007 is weak, because Nadal hadn't won a Major off clay yet, and because it was pre Djokovic/Murray.

Now we're back in a weak era, because Murray isn't a threat to Fed (I think he is, personally, but whatever)? I guess it's just never going to be good enough, unless Fed is losing consistently to Nadal in majors.

O....M....G!!!!! Andy M beat Novak?????? Unbelievable!!!!! I don't think Andy has a chance but I hope he wins it in a third set tie-break. Ideally they'd play until one drops of exhaustion, but that won't happen.

If Murray wins, all of a sudden it gets converted to a strong era, LOL :)

Murray has to win it to cement his record as the greatest player to never win one of the 4 slams.

...then he will win the US Open and a comet will hit the earth and all that remains of the human race will be a fragment of his prostock PT57a. Aliens will find this and conclude that all humans were long suffering Murrays and were better off being annihilated as tennis was their downfall!

seriously though... Murray in 4

Mecir is the best ever non slam winner.Murray may tie nº 2 spot with Rios.

If Fed had won easily against Del Potro then Federer in straight sets, worst at four.

Federer however, is spent. His only chance is to serve big. The first two sets are key. If Federer wins them, then he can even afford to tank the next two if he goes down a break earlier.

Murray has been very attacking this tournament, but that will be a mistake tomorrow. He should grind the points out, at least early on. Once he takes aways Federer's legs then he should start attacking more.

So I think Murray in 4.

Our basketball coach always told us that it was hard to beat a good time twice in a season, and he was right. Seems like two such similar matches in a short time is somewhat equatable. I don't see how Fed wins this match after investing so much today while Murray seemed to cruise.

If I were a gambler, I'd put money on Murray. Either outcome I would be happy- financial gain if Murray wins, and I wouldn't mind losing some cash to see Fed get the gold...

Fed in 4. When Federer gets in trouble, we have learned that he has the power to make it rain. Don't you people follow tennis? ;)

Im rooting for the Muzz. He deserves to finally win something of note, and in his country, you can't beat that story.

Because this is the Olympics, I hope Federer wins this match. Great Britain has won 22 Medals, 8 of which are Gold.

Federer is going to be playing for Switzerland's first medal of the Olympics.Hopefully, it is gold.

Federer seems to be way more patriotic than i initially thought, I always thought had he faced a truly patriotic player he would some how lose at the olympics, but this seems to mean A LOT to him. Federer will win on Sunday hopefully, plus Murray will have atleast one more chance to win the olympics, whereas this is fed's last chance.

The final isnt tomorrow, its on sunday, Gives Fed time to rest, exactly like he got after his 5 sets win against Benneteau at Wimbledon. If he manages to come on court fresh, he will beat Murray in 4 sets max.

Yes, I was surprised myself today. It mean't so much to Federer that he was not thinking clearly at times. It is was strange to see Federer get so tentative oncourt that his shot selection became incredibly poor. I lost track of how many times Federer had the whole court open to him and choose to strike a overhead/groundstroke directly back to his opponent rather than away from them. The volleys were disastrous, I don't know how Federer managed to win like 30/50 points at net.

I honestly think that Federer can take this out and and bag the Career Golden Slam.

Murray's shots don't have enough depth to hurt him (unlike del Potro), however the fact that he managed to dispose of Djokovic in straight sets is certainly something to be wary of.

Federer in 4.

I think Federer has the slight edge on Murray, but so many little things have either happened or could happen to help Murray regain the balance.

Murray never loses to anyone 2 times in a row so Murray the gold medal winner.

Would that were so. He lost to Nadal 3 times in a row last year (MC,FO & Wimbledon) and has lost his last 3 meetings with Federer (2010 WTF, 2012 Dubai & 2012 Wimbledon).

However he broke his losing streak against Nadal in Tokyo last October. Hopefully he can break his losing streak against Fed on Sunday!

I'm a Murray fan but I feel Murray has no chance in this match. Nadal has the topspin and Del Potro has the power. What does Murray have?

Murray's going to test Fed's fitness. The latter showed some great resolve yesterday - but are the legs going to be there for the nearly 31 year old on Sunday? I'm excited to see what both bring to this match.

when i saw that fed and delpo posted the same QF score, i sort of had the feeling that the margins will be really small. only i didn't expect it to be as close and as crazy as it was last night.

fed'll be feeling the drain to his bones today, but i hope it'll get him an extra concentration on sunday. and much as i hate to say this cliched thing, but if he doesn't win gold, delpo might slap him in the face :D

i wish he can pull a phelps!

poking around wikipedia, the last time a brit won a tennis gold medal was 104 years ago in wimbledon (outdoors tennis) and queens (indoors tennis; indoor tennis was scrapped 8 years later).

would there be an indoor tennis finals, then roger can take that, and murray can take the other one.

Murray potentially has two doubles matches to play today before tomorrow's final. It'll be interesting how much it affects him in the singles final.

Still, he's playing well and has a good chance I think. I'll go for Murray in 4.

it was pretty impressive how well murray was playing in the semis. I think this time Murray will beat the Goat and could turn him into one of his pets.

Fed in 3. Such a shame Rafa is not there to give him some opposition.

So what do you call SF with Delpo? Not enough opposition for you? Maybe if they broke Isner-Mahut record or something.

Besides, you're vastly underestimating Murray and his chances in the final (but then again I'm sure you know that).

Are you serious? How did he manage to win his semi and get to the final then? Or are you basically saying that Federer is a player way above the league of a mere Djokovic??

See my reply to Murrayfan31. I think I was quite restrained in the circumstances. :)

Mind you it's hard enough work having to explain the facts of Murray's career over and over again to his many detractors on here. It's even more depressing to have to educate his 'fans' into the bargain! :(
