Despite a few moments of unsportsmanlike conduct, he is generally an excellent sportsman. The Edberg award is voted on by other players, so it does say something.
No surprises here tennis marketing at full force! That's fixed too, because Federer is the only one who is nominated EVERY year along with other spurious players. There are many other players with impeccable sportsmanship. If different people win it, it would be more meaningful.
Explains the whole Pascal Maria affair then doesn't it.
I don't think fans bother to vote because it's seems like a foregone conclusion and a waste of time. Are they really saying that over the past 13 years Fed was the only who demonstrated good sportsmanship apart from when Rafa won it in 2010?
No I don't think anyone has said that. Are they really saying that over the past 13 years Fed was the only who demonstrated good sportsmanship apart from when Rafa won it in 2010?
No I don't think anyone has said that.
This doesn't really tell us anything as he won it 8 times before he was even sponsored by Moet and Chandon.
Perhaps the reason they sponsored him was due to the fact that he had won the award multiple times before?
and you are taking octobrina10's posts seriously? and asking a valid question? come on you must be out of your mind trying to have a reasonable conversation with that kind of a member.![]()

Apparantly they are saying that he on a very constant level has shown very good sportsmanship. Ofcourse unlike us they also know him of the courts which may also factor in.So exactly what are they saying?
There are 11 players in the council, so it does not amount to much in the vote. Where do you have the information about a flood of letters?I think it's clear the snail-mail fans had an indirect effect on the Sportsmanship Award. With the ATP Players Council (and - remind me - who was the president until this year?) getting flooded with letters from the fringe constituency, these players were no doubt biased towards voting for Federer.
Because obviously the social media presence represents a true reality.
I am here to support Rafa! Not for "conversations!"

Absolutely!
Tennis is competition you do not play sub par tennis because you respect some old champion too much.
I can't wait to see some young gun bagel F and put him in his place!

Well deserved??? What the hell has he done this year to deserve this awardShow me just one tiny sportsmanship Federer moment in the past 365 days?
He is the one of the VERY few players takes less than 25 sec. in-between points…. This “sportsmanship” is non-existence with most of other players…
This alone a BEST sportsmanship, considering time-off every player taking nowadays (like RAFA Faking injury) and others does whenever they are getting defeated….
Federer is very marketable.Fed is very popular in the US. Even people who never watch tennis (and don't even know how many slams there are) will pick Fed if asked. I guess it's the gillette/rolex commercials lol. Fed is a household name like Michael Jordan in bb or Tiger in golf. And the US is the biggest market. It's all about marketing these days.
