This is like the 20th time that Chrissie E. has said that EVERY player gets coaching. shut up Chrissie

Serena was a total ***** and the whole world got to see it up close and personal. "Every year this happens to me!" boo hoo!

Now Mary Jo is saying "Serena is so passionate" I am going to barf.

Osaka was robbed of her moment. This is shameful

Yeah, and when they receive a code violation (?) they don't make a monumental scene.

Serena: "I'm here fighting for women's rights and for women's equality and for all kinds of stuff. For me to say 'thief' and for him to take a game, it made me feel like it was a sexist remark. He's never taken a game from a man because they said 'thief'."

Ugh just be quiet Serena
Really Serena said that Lol. Maybe she should of focused on the tennis match. You gotta Naomi’s attitude “I was just trying to keep my composure, I didn’t really know what was going on” Refreshing

I have never seen drama like that before in any sport ever - who said women's tennis is boring?

Credit must go to the Umpire - Serena gave him a non stop verbal bollocking / bashing for must have been close to a minute or more.

Absolutely disgraceful conduct by Serena exposing her true character.

To Naomi - never seen a female player counter the awesome power of Serena that well before.

Samantha Stosur bullied Serena for power in the final once before - but that was by getting in with the first hit in the rally. This was a bit different. Naomi was hitting Serena's aggressive groundies with equal if not more pace, unbelievable!

Serena should be banned from the ATP Tour for her disgraceful rant towards the Umpire.

The most appalling rant I've ever heard by any player to a match official in the history of this sport.

Two tirades earlier. Where she was explaining to Ramos that she wasn't getting coached and that she had never received off court coaching in her career (which she hasn't). How would that be fair. Saying the umpire stole a point from you is NOT name calling. A thief is someone who steals. So how is explaining the term thief by initially saying that you stole from me count as verbal abuse.

Ramos was way to trigger happy pulling out the code violations. The game penalty was an absolute farce. When has anybody received a game penalty after receiving a point penalty.

Well done to Naomi, she won and played well and keep her cool but the match was soured by Ramos being too power hungry, giving a game penalty in a GS final. Absolutely atrocious

She called him a thief and a liar in that tirade. Both are name calling. If any of my co-workers called me those names I would take offence and likely you would as well.

And by rules, 3 code violations is a game penalty. I’ve never seen it because players aren’t stupid enough to commit 3 violations in a match.

Again you keep saying “atrocious”. I do not think that word means what you think it means. “Debatable” might be a better choice and even that’s questionable since you seem to be the only one debating it. Everybody else seems to agree with the chair umpire.

Portugal isn’t sending their best umpires to the US. They’re sending criminals and rapists —- and thieves. And some of them, I assume, are good people. :D

Serena was getting totally outplayed before she had one of her now routine USO tirades. However, it’s about time Early used his authority to overrule an umpire that becomes more of the match than he should.

No.... Just no.

I know you probably 'identify' with her but there is absolutely no way to defend her. The chair was doing his fvcking job, her coach admitted he was fvcking coaching, and she fvcking broke her racket when she knew she would get a point penalty.

Osaka's dad is Haitian, she may look black or half black, but there is a difference to some, especially among black people (African American for generations ) how they view other black people from Caribbean (Afro-Caribbean) or new immigrants from Africa.
That bothers me so much. Same as gays ****ting on bisexual people. WE WANT TO BE TOLERATED, BUT WE WON'T TOLERATE THEM

People, her getting #24 is in jeopardy.. she had almost everything going her way in this slam with top seeds being upset.
You think Sloane, Halep, and Kerber lose early again? if Mugs gets her groove back and then you have a proven player in Osaska and impressive Sabalenka.
It will be very tough for her to win 7 matches in top form against 2-3 top 10 players. Age shows itself when you don't expect. Fed knows this.

My wife’s hormones went back to normal around 2 months after she have birth to our son. So for Serena it has nothing to do with hormones. It’s just her real self when someone is kicking her ass. She just can’t accept it and instead of trying to compete that’s her No class at all response. That’s a result of the political correct world we live in. You wanted equality between the 2 genders and these are the results. Women and men have lost their true roles. Now it’s all about bi...ing around and creating movements to defend nonsense demands. Movements for food, movements for genders, all these kind of stuff that really separate us and create hostile environment. I am very angry for the world my son is gonna grow up.

I think they should force coaches to be seated higher in the stands rather than courtside.

Eliminate coaching by eliminating the proximity to the coach. The ability to think your way through a match is a key skill in tennis IMO.

Patrick admitted to coaching, but said that Nadal gets coached constantly and rarely gets penalized for it.

Boo hoo...

He got caught and he said but everyone does it. I’m sure that would hold up in the court of law

If you get pulled over for speeding and say “but everyone was speeding” the cop will say “well I pulled you over for it”

Serena saw his thumbs up gesture...getting coaching as usual. Her coach admitted coaching happens 100 % of matches.

She loss focus and could not let it go.

Naomi Osaka showed tremendous focus and finished off a distracted GOAT.

A little sad for a young 20 yo girl having her winning moment tarnished by the ugliness of the fans.....

Well a coaching violation and unsportsmanlike conduct are two different things. Usually people get called for things like cursing at the umpire or sexual gestures, but we don't usually see coaching violations or someone saying your stealing a point from me, or you're a thief to the umpire -- is that really a code violation in comparison to what we usually hear in those kinds of exchanges?

Accusing the umpire of being a cheat is more serious than swearing.

Layhani shouldn't have done what he did, but under no circumstances was Ramos obligated to give Serena a final warning before the game penalty. Why should he? Serena already had two violations, a giant red flag in itself that maybe, just maybe she should drop it before anything else happens.

Multiple Fbombs from Fognini draw one code violation. Insults to umpire? Nothing.

That's one outburst, makes sense to give him one violation. Serena was haranguing him ever since the coaching violation, non-stop. At some point, something has to give, and it should have given after the second violation/warning because again; she had two.

The three strikes concept, even when you're angry, is not rocket science.

Some cheered her at the end of the conference. Gag.
You are right...it was nauseating to watch the journos cheering her...I mean seriously this is something to cheer about..a 37 yr old 23 GS mature mother basically berating a chair umpire...

I wouldn't expect the, erm, gentlemen here at TT to get it.

I think it needs to be said that Bad Boy Behavior on a tennis court is tolerated. And I feel confident that if Fognini or Kyrios or Federer were playing in the men's final close to the end of a set, *no umpire on the planet* would call that third code violation.

It is bias against Serena. I actually wanted Naomi to win, I was sick to death of the Mama ads, and I don't abide her sense of entitlement.

But even Serena deserves to be treated, well, . . . as well as Jared Donaldson, Fabio, Kyrios, and the countless men who sit in their chairs on changeovers and scream at and insult chair umpires.

Yes, that's exactly that.

That was no way for a lady like Serena to behave so the umpire showed her. Now she can be a lady again.

MouraCOACHlu was telling her to hit down the middle. It was coaching. Beacuse giving a superior mover angles is dumb. He tried to help her. And admitted it.
Rena saw a thumbs up. It did not help.
Congrats miss Osaka. One hundred percent earned. Well done, kid.

Easy solution: they can stay in the players’ lounge and watch.
That's a good idea — maybe on the third offense. But I think you give them a warning then a point penalty right at the start of the match — if what Patrick and the commentators say is true: They coach on basically every point throughout. Only the stupidest coaches would get their player a full game penalty. I'm guessing they wouldn't have long-term employment at that point.

Problem solved.

The problem here is that Serena was losing because she was being outplayed and was looking for drama to fire herself up, throw Osaka off her game and make a dramatic comeback because she feels she deserves every title. The problem is she overplayed her hand. Credit to Osaka for ignoring her and Ramos' drama and staying calm!
