The QF always looked like the likely place where reality would set in, unless a miracle happened à la 2017 AO ...

With it being Hurkasz rather than Med, I had hoped Fed might squeeze through, or at least make things competitive. He might have done if he had remembered to bring his forehand.

Shame about the bagel, but making the QF at nearly 40 and after two knee surgeries is a good result. Oldest Wimbledon quarterfinalist in the Open Era. (y)
Djokovic got bagelled last year.
This year is turning out as his best ever so far.

Well, I think you are on to something here. As evidenced today and in Feds own words, he felt exhausted already in a QF. He wasn't in shape to take out these other top players, let alone Djokovic. But I think if Djokovic somehow had lost earlier, he would see his opportunity and mentally it would be much easier to grind out against these guys knowing there is no chance of a Djokovic showing up in a final.

If Federer was in shape and in form, he wouldn't care who is in the draw. He believes he can beat Djokovic, but this year I don't think he ever thought he had a chance. Stars had to really align for him.

Reality needed to set in sooner rather than later! Not even a favourable draw could help Fraud, super effort for going so far at nearly 40! This will be enough to see him next yr!

Lol, you really are fan boy...
Not to celebrate first slam SF? Out of respect? Should he apologize at the net, and cry in interview?

Something half-way between crying and in-your-face celebrations would be reasonable IMHO.

Djokovic has vultured the most in weak era - the weakest era of open era - 2015 to current. Nadal the 2nd most.
2004, 2005, 2007 were all pretty good years. Only 2006 was on the level of 2015(&2010). 2016-current has been worse than 2015.
your post is an utter joke.
I still think this is unprovable and largely meaningless - it’s not like Djokovic or Nadal could have chosen to play in any other era or be born at any point than they were - and thus calling these slams “vultured” stinks of being a hater. Perhaps they required less of a high level but vulturing is a really strong word. That’s just my take, I think you’re a reasonable guy and very knowledgeable on tennis history but disagree here.

Such a sad way for Fed to go out at Wimbledon. I'd think he was also representative of fighting father time for many fans of his. After the tiebreak, and the loss of the 2nd set, maybe unconsciously he felt he couldn't do it anymore, which screwed with his conscious efforts. Hurkatz seems to me a decent nice guy. I don't know why but he could be more fun to watch for me than the rest of the nextgen if he goes on a roll of his career from here. (not now, being sad about Fed will take me maybe a season to recover from) I don't hate him as I did Fed initially beating Sampras. wierd. (years before Fed won me over)

That () lady screamed before Fed slipped! I think it's very likely Fed heard her in that split second.

Roger's last match at Wimbledon is against some dude with goofy name named Huygo Hurkach ???????????????Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh nooooooooooooooooooooooooo o_O   :eek:

Couldn't it have been some dude cool sounding name like Shapavollov or Tsisipas... ???

Federer is simply too old to play at a decent level on a regular basis (I mean a decent top-10 level, not slam winning level). Hurkascz may be the 2021 equivalent of George Bastl.

Me looking for the abuse Fed Fans directed at Med:

giphy.gif
It's hilarious, the dude will make up phantom posts of Fed fans ripping on Med in his mind just so he can excuse/justify his own dirt throwing.

Like it's fine you can't stand xy player, it's sports. Just be honest with yourself FFS.
Maybe "abuse" is a strong word, but many Fed fans had some harsh criticism for Meddy:
Are you dumb? Federer at 50 years old and outside the top 500 will deserve Centre Court over Medvedev. Maybe we can talk when Medvedev wins 5-6 slams, but until then, keep your choking butt in Court 2.

Most unfortunate performance by Medvedev, who looked to be nothing like a true #2 seed at Wimbledon.
Never think that the maniacal crowd support for Fed won’t disrupt Hubi. He’s never been to a slam QF either, whereas Fed’s been to a million. Playing grass mug Med is a different universe in pressure than playing an 8 time Wimbledon champion on Centre Court, with the crowd screaming hysterically after every Fed winner.
Last couple of days we've seen many on the forum complaining about the world no. 2 not having played on centre court. Today he did and won only 3 games while the opponent won 8. Game over for Medvedev, he couldn't handle the pressure of being on the biggest stage of all. Maybe he should thank his lucky star that the organizers didn't place him there earlier, he might have gone out as early in R1/2.

The next gens continue to deliver when it matters most. Tsitsipas, Zverev and Medvedev - none of them in the quarterfinal of the most prestigious Grand Slam tournament. Djokovic's year end 1 looking as secure a thing as taxes, death and next gen loser mentality.

It's clear that organisers made the correct decision by placing the 8-time champion on Centre Court, and the man who's never reached a Wimbledon QF on another court.
LOL @ everyone making excuses for Medvedev and saying that it's a shame the tournament didn't pander to him.

If he was good enough - especially on grass - he'd have breezed into the QFs no matter what court he was put on.

Guess what? He wasn't.

You have zero way of knowing this. The only facts are these: Medvedev had the chance to beat him yesterday and had the chance to beat him today and got rolled.

Oh look who's back from the cave.

90% of the tour would take a QF result at Wimb if it meant treating RG as a practice session.

100% of the tour would take a QF result at Wimb if it meant treating RG as a practice session at the age of 39.
He wasn't practicing at RG to get to QF at Wimbledon though, other than that a decent result all considered, just not what he thought he would get.

Will karma hit Nadal for his distespectful attituse towards Wimb?
Withdrawing prior to the tournament is not the same as going to the tournament with a plan to withdraw once he got couple matches under his belt. At least he could keep quiet about it and make up some lie that the last match aggravated his injury or something along these lines, not that difficult. It was very arrogant of him to take off the way he did and announcing that his real goal was Wimbledon. He got his wish, nobody in the right mind expected him to win it any more than they expected him to win the French Open, and QF is a decent result all considered. If he can tone down his own expectations and settle for QF exits he can carry on playing until he gets bored of it.

Please, Fed didn't go there with the plan of withdrawing.

And LMAO at calling what Nadal did morally correct :-D

Wow, in his press conference he was awesome with his honesty, perspective and matter of factness. I admire that! I don’t see him as coming across deflated, I just see a man whose ego is in balance, which most people don’t associate with Federer but it’s how he comes across lately to me.
He’s very grounded. He has a good family. Good background. It’s about the legacy from this point. He’s done enough.

I think Fed is still not recovered from his surgery, probably the doc told him to go easy with the ultra slippery courts this year. I can bet he will be back next year. I honestly feel he has one more Wimbledon in him but the stars have to align.

Vulturing is appropriate to the post I was responding to.

Not this version of Federer. Any decent player who could keep the ball in would have beaten Federer today. He just didn't have any rhythm with his ground strokes and there was nothing he could do other than keep serving and holding and hoping to sneak out a win in TBs.

Yeah, we all know Federer has bad form right now.
But I still think Federer has certain level of benchmark quality at Wimbledon and Hurkacz got some game.

Bastl is the one who whooped Sampras at Wimb.

Make no mistake about it.
Hurkacz got some talent.

Federer even with current bad form, still has some banchmark quality and Hurkacz shoes he got some game.

I'm pretty sure Hurkacz will make top 10 this year.

Have you watched Hubi this Wimbledon? He has a massive serve, he moves extremely well on the grass and he actually approaches the net and volleys surprisingly well. He got up to drop shots literally as quickly as Djokovic does. He is definitely a legit good opponent, a significant step up from the other players Roger has faced the past week.
Some legitimate text.
