Props to Belucci and Djokovic as well. They're the ones who gave Nadal the toughest time.

Now all the doom and gloom for Federer because he got spanked on his not best surface.

Congrats to Nadal. If he keeps this up at the french open for 2 more years, i will call him the greatest claycourter ever.

Classy stuff for Nadal by apologizing to Roger for this beatdown,I always respected him as a person and as a player and know I'll respect him even more.He will get Borg's record and go down as a GOAT on clay IMO.
What did he actually say?

Wow

Some things are clear now.

Federer did not play or compete well today, but having said that, Nadal played on such a high level that there was nothing Federer could have done. Nadal's A clay game is simply superior to everyone else's, including Federer. Unfortunately today we saw Nadal's A game vs Federer at less than A, and that equals a humiliating beat-down. To win the French going through Nadal would require Federer to have his A game while Nadal has an off day.

Federer will never win the French Open. He's about to turn 27, and even if someone else knocks off Nadal (which is almost inconceivable anytime soon barring injury), Federer will become increasingly vulnerable to lesser players as he gets older. Its too bad that Federer could not have developed the clay game he has now earlier. With the level he has reached on clay over the last two years, he would have won the French in 2004, and possibly also in 2005 and 2006 against Nadal. But now it is over. It is simply too late now.

If it is true that Wimbledon is even higher bouncing this year, then combined with the mental superiority Nadal enjoys over Federer, then I would expect Nadal to win there too should they meet again.

He's a genuenily classy guy and didn't want to make it tougher for Roger then it already is.Huge props for him for that.

It din't have to be in Roger's face, but what Rafa achieved was phenomenal too. Anyway, he is indeed a very classy guy for his age.

nadal wins french without dropping a set, and on his way he handed out 3 bagels and 9 breadsticks out of those 21 sets.. thats so freakin impressive, holy crap

Federer was there, hanging with Nadal midway through the 2nd set. He was trying to "up the heat," coming to net, going for lines. And genius that Federer is, he was pulling it off....up to a point. Nadal just simply doesn't give points away; his physical talent is perfectly matched with an incredible competitive focus. On clay, he is the COMPLETE package.

Nah, I don't think this should be about (needless) "fanboy" put-downs down one of the greatest--if not the greatest player of all time--I think this should be more about recognizing and celebrating Nadal's brilliant, determined play from the 1st round though the final and about making the case that Nadal has eclipsed Bjorn Borg as the greatest clay court player in history. Well done Rafa--great effort.

I seriously believe we are not going to see Federer win another slam.
He will... just probably never the French. He might not win every single other slam like he did the previous three years, but he's continued to make at least the semi-finals for the past 16 slams, so it's a little drastic to predict he won't win another slam at this point.

Yeah Roger was very lucky not to have Djoko on his side of the draw. he wouldn't have even gotten to the final

Completely agree with you. Federer was lucky to have a cruisy draw and no Djokovic. Otherwise we wouldve seen Djokovic in the final, and probably giving in a much greater performance.

Why was Rafa so muted in celebration? He should be proud of himself!

I'm sure he is.

I'm not bothered at all by it. Federer, although good on clay, just wasn't good enough. You have to acknowledge when a guy just plays awesomely perfect. When Federer won games, he had to play perfect, it was unreal the shots Nadal got to.

I wish Fed had mixed it up more even still -- especially the drop -- but I don't think he played horribly. It's just that Nadal played so perfect.

LOL @ McEnroe....he calls everything "bad luck". I think by "bad luck" he means you just ran into a guy playing better.

Edit: What a guy, McEnroe tells Nadal he's the best he's ever seen on clay, asks Nadal what he thinks of that; Nadal says, "I really can't say anything about that, because Bjorn Borg has won many times here, more than me". Like I said before the match, the guy is very humble, a great guy.

Watching this match, it was just out of Federer's hands. He doesn't have the level to beat Nadal today even if he had his A+ game. Nadal just has all of the weapons and defense for this surface.

Federer played really poorly, and had a really dumb strategy. Nadal can change the directions too well on this surface, why the heck is he trying to attack up the line so much is beyond me.

Had Federer attempted to go to the Nadal forehand a few times, it would have allowed him to stretch the court some, and at LEAST make it a competitive match. Nadal KNEW Federer was just zeroing in on his backhand, and torched him all match long with it.

Nadal played so good today he really deserves the title of being the KING OF CLAY..but he needs 2 more in order to be the greatest of all time on clay in order to break the record of Bjorn Borg.

JMac: What happened?

Once you get down it's hard to attack him. Ihad a strategy but he couldn't carry it out. It was hard, high ball bounce too. I wasn't tired, it had tp do a lot with Nadal. Hard not ot let your head hang when you can't do anything.

Bad luck Roger.

You need to realize that nothing will work when Nadal plays like this. Only blisters can defeat Nadal at this stage.

Nadal just bageled one of the GOAT in dominating fashion. How is he not the King of Clay now?

Roger seems to be ok with his play. He gave credit to Rafa's game more than blame his own in his interview with McEnroe.

You're probably one of the most rational people on this board. Props to you.

JMac to Rafa>>>>How?

Did you expect to get beter and better. Is this hard woek or talent? My motivation has improved, I have to keep improving. I thought it would be a tough match.
JMac: You are the greatest cc player I've ever seen

I can't answer that. There are many great cc players

How would you beat Rafa? I'd be aggressive and not make many mistakes.

Nadal rules on clay, simple as that.I thought Roger played on but not as great and Nadal was out of this world.Fed never seems to bring anything new to the match.Trading shots back to back doesnt work because of all the high bounces to his backhand.

Right, Djokovic barely did better than Federer. And I think Nadal played even better in the final than the SF. Also, Fed beat Djoko at MC.

Is there any way they can replay the match?.... Things just didn't start off well for Federer from the beginning. Plus, the fans are already piling up at the cashier booths to get their money back. If the officials don't want the fans to go on strike, they might as well offer them another match: a rematch... today... after lunch.

Rafa said something about Roger being the same in defeat as in victory.

roger played bad. just look at his volleys. although he managed to get in some brilliant ones, all in all they sucked in this match. fed can't exactly read where the pass will go to.

From this year on, I don't want to see another "who's going to win FO" thread. Rafa will win here every year until he calls it quits

Time to recapitulate:

- Fed won one more game than Almagro or Verdasco, but ate a bagel. I guess those guys get some respect back, don't they?

- I told it several times, Djokovic had a better (albeit small) chance. Fed's BH and Nads' FH is a match made in hell. Q.e.d.

- That strange feeling that this was Fed's year was just probably some gas. Something you ate. Now you know.

- This match score says everything about the tournament. Nuff said.

Barely? Wow, I dont think we were watching the same match. I didnt see Djokovic lose a set 6-1, let alone 6-0, and get completely and utterly destroyed like what Nadal did to Federer.

I have no doubt Djokovic would have played a much better game against Nadal than what Federer did today.
