Look at Rafa's draw - Retired Youzhny, Challenger Smyzcek, ATP 250 Sela, Choker Anderson, Pigeon Berdych, Injured Murray.

It is USO 2010 and 2013 all over.

Anything other than Novak in the finals will be the biggest travesty in recent history.

Shut up already! If you get an easy draw and you are able to take advantage of it and win, good for you. Tennis is about winning titles. Federer had an easy draw at Wimbledon last year and he was not able to get it done.

It doesn't really matter which player Nadal faces in the earlier rounds. He usually finds a way to win best of five sets vs most people (except at Wimbledon lately.) Who really cares about the first week of a slam tournament? The toughest players all of these top seeds face are in the second week, let's be honest. If he is able to beat players like Murray and Djokovic to win this title, he will deserve it. The end. Stop the sour grapes and I say this as a Fed fan.

Smyzcek proved to be a tough test for Nadal. It wasn't just because Nadal was feeling unwell. Tim has a very short backswing on both his FH and BH, took the ball early. His BH crosscourt and FH dtl were exceptional. Not an easy match up for a guy like Nadal.

Sela as a third round was easy.
Anderson also a decent 4th round for Nadal. Nadal does well against big servers with limited movement.
Berdych is a dream match up for him and the best QF he could get.

Murray and Djokovic/Wawrinka as SF+F?
Definitely makes it a worthy victory if he goes through them and makes up for the easy 3rd, 4th rounds and QF.

Lol wtf Berdych is far from a dream match up for Nadal. Dudi was the dream match up.

Nadal won the last 16 encounters with Berdych. If that is not a dream match up for him, then I don't know what is.

On paper it might not be a dream match up, but in reality it is. Berdych always folds against Nadal and Nadal always brings his A-game when facing him, much like he does against Federer.

Didn't Rafa win 2010 Wimbledon after long matches in early rounds ?

Was he rusty in the midst of a 3 major run ?

Grass is a different story than AO for Nadal.

At AO Nadal has never lost to a journeyman, not even close. Tsonga was the lowest ranked opponent he's ever lost to.

You should read better. I never said he will not be deserving of the title should he win.

I mentioned that it would be with a huge amount of luck.

Every player has their share of winning with weak draws. Sure Fed has won some. Isnt that being mentioned day in day out ?

Berdych is not easy to beat. Did you even watch the 2012 AO qf? Nadal barely got through that one.

Roddick was the dream match up for Fed but not one Fed fan whines about that do they?

Berdych looks so good this tournament. Man, he's actually gonna win some games in the quarter-final.

There was a time, from 2005-2007, when Berdych was seen as a nightmare matchup for Nadal.

Oh please. Birdy will call rafa the night before and ask him what he is wearing to the match.

Look at it this way. At the time of the 2014 Australian Open, Nadal led Wawrinka 12-0 in the head-to-head, and hadn't lost a single set. Who won the final?

Yes I did. That was an awesome match and ever since he got out of the jail those first two sets against Berdych, he's practically been owning him since.

No they don't. Just like most Nadal fans wouldn't whine about Berdych being such a pigeon. Fanbases ABC.

More to the point.

That's a good point, but due to the H2H most think it was a fluke and that Nadal's horrific back injury (isn't he still affected by it on and off?) gave Wawrinka a free easy ride to his maiden Slam.

Actually, it was only 2005/6 when Berdych beat Nadal 3 times.

That's true, but the reputation of Berdych being a bad matchup for Nadal was still there before their 2007 Wimbledon quarter final match. Many expected Berdych to beat Nadal.

Yeah except, Roddick was Fed's main competition but Berdych is only a qf obstacle for the most part. Big difference.

Why you cry so much?

Nadal had a really tough draw last year and still got to the final only losing 1 set.

I am not crying. I never get into the tough draw easy draw stuff I think you mistake me for someone else. My opinions on draws is what appears easy could not be and vice versa depending on what the other players forms are.

I am not the one who is upset. When i mentioned the players Rafa is facing this AO, you guys couldn't handle the truth.

I will be upset should he go and win the title, but we have a week left. :)

Rafa at the last AO was a different player than what he is today. He is low on confidence. With a half decent draw, we may not be certain he would still be around.

Rafas water bottles were blown over by the wind and the crowd is oohing and ahhing. Rafa seems to think it's pretty funny that everyone thinks he's going to lose if the bottles fall over

You said, "anything other than Novak in the finals will be the biggest travesty in recent history."

What if Nadal beats Murray and then Novak to win the title? What excuses will you come up with then? The truth is some fans are never satisfied and they always find excuses to demean the results of the players they dislike and it is pitiful. It doesn't matter if it is Fed fans doing it or Nadal fans. It is really distasteful.

Yes, Nadal got an easy early draw. There is no doubt about that but at the end of the day from the SF round to the final he will have to beat the best of the best players to win the title and really that is all you can ask for.

Federer has had some easy draws in the past couple of years at slams and he has not been able to take advantage of it. Yet at W 2012, he had a more difficult draw and had to beat Djokovic and Murray to win the title. In any case what difference does it really make? History cares about titles not which opponents players faced.

P.S. As soon as I saw the draw I predicted Nadal would make the final.

It's done and dusted.

Anderson had his chances in the first. Nadal played those BPs in the 11 game quite well though.

Berdychs up next.

The only reason Nadal won was because the ballboy being a little cheat and fixing Nadal's bottles for him. DQ him immediately. ;)
