The "What's Wrong With Her?" Thread

there's a canadian kid called Eugenie Bouchard (sp?) who is worth watching out for imho.

However, in teh only match I have seen her play, she suffered a massive brain explosion that almost cost her the match before she suddenly started playing well again.

I suspect a potential WWWH member in the making

The only reason i've heard of her is because she's in Top Spin 4.

Sharapova should be able to make the top 10 again, thanks to Peer's loss. Of course it's not an automatic, but all she has to do is win a few matches in Miami.

Nine women still have a chance of passing her.
This is how each can pass Maria, if Maria loses in R3:

Sveta SF
Bartoli SF
Kanepi SF
Kvitova SF
Aga F
Ana F
Andrea W
Anastasia W
Alisa W

Likely Sharapova is back to top 10, but then again who could have predicted Rezai winning Madrid or Schiavone winning the French?

Maria will be top 10 for sure but I don't think she cares about that... her last big title was in 2009 she certainly does want to end that streak...

Vandeweghe is a poor Davenport clone and even has much of Davenport's old trainers on her staff. She doesn't hustle that well, her strokes seem a bit unorthodox (long forehand takeback), and she has not made any real noise to justify the hype other than a few wins. Davenport at her age was already lurking in and around the top 10.

Haven't seen Lepchenko play.

Being a fan of Coco for a good 3 yrs. I can say that she's someone with whom you must have patience... she does her thing under the radar, keeps progressing and she's very young so she doesn't have time rushing her...

People has tried to create hype around her because of the desperation and the very mediocre US women's field but those who have done so are only going to be deceived then start criticizing... but she's a player that does her thing relaxed and someday she'll shine...

She's been a top 100 player for not too long and IMO she needs to understand better how everything works at the top level... it takes some time for some but I think she'll be the next US it-girl on the tour...

I just hope I'm right. :D

I don't like to see people picking on Oudin because I believe that even staying in the top 50 is overachieving, given her size and game. Appreciate her for what she is, don't criticize her for what she isn't.

Deception for Petra but IDK losed to Nastya who's really one of the strongest up-rising teens... anyways she ain't doing nothing on clay... so much waste.

Kvitova did reach the FO 4th round last year, so who knows? H2H with Pav is now 2-2, so maybe I shouldn't be so surprised. But that bagel is quite disturbing.

Yes that's true but I really don't believe on her on clay... it's hard/grass or nothing... but as RG and clay overall is such a suck fest for the girls maybe something can happen...

The bagel is typical Petra and she wasn't even suppose to beneficiate of a 3rd set so much Nastya choked at 6-4 5-4. RoFL... she luckily got the third and gave it away in fashion.

I've already said this (right after her Paris indoors victory in Feb.): stick a fork in Kvitova until Wimbledon.

That's when she will resurrect back to her hot banging form

should we add "coached by safina's former coach" to cibukova's qualifications? i thought i was going to see him stroke out during the third set of he match with vika!

It looks like the upper half of the draw has opened up widely .

Petkorazzi could go all teh way to the final! All she has to do is beat Jankovic (not easy but possible: JJ is not in her best form) and then Sharapova (certainly doable) and that's it: the final is assured.

^^ I like Andrea even more after this... She really is a top 10 material and she's cool... I'll still stick with Maria as the trophy holder.

Talk about Schiavone nº4, a current slam holder took 0 & 2 to Radwanska... with 30+ UEs... She and Stosur are a joke... ROFL !!

What's wrong with Ana?? Leading 5-1 in deciding set against Kim and now massive choke to lose it in TB.

Disgusting! She should have had that match. She does not have the mental game of a champion for sure. She chokes and panics all the time. Clijsters on the other hand, even when she is playing like crap, comes through with her mental strength. Big difference between the two.

This could really set Ivanovic back. She had been making steady, if not incredible, progress. This has to stick with her for a while and affect her in close matches, and even affect her belief in herself when things aren't that close.

Let's hope she get's over it quickly.

Seriously Ana... I'm just disgusted and I'm reaally f-cking tired of Clijsters playing club level tennis and still winning... but all this is just Ana's fault... watch her go back in her slump after this. :(

Get off your fake outrage you insensitive ****-ass

Kim's been shoulder-injured for a while now. It shows impeccable resilience on her part to keep on playing for a whole month. Kind of reminds me of Sampras... Of course you probably prefer that she chickens out like Nadal and run to the exit door long ago (since this dates back to early february) but here she is getting on with it and playing tennis instead

That progress pretty much stalled when she fired the Swiss maestro Heinz Gunthard two months ago and claimed that she no longer needed a coach. That was a douchy move.

Anyways, meanwhile Petkorazzi's clearly on a roll (just zapped Jankovic out)

OMFG at Ana choking. I only got to see the score on tennis.com listing 5-1 in the 3rd and I was thinking "Wow Ana is making a statement. This could be a huge lift for her."

Ana couldn't close it out despite a 5-1 lead, 5 MP, and playing against a somewhat injured Clijsters. Generation SUCK indeed.

Azarenka, Ivanovic, Rezai, Peer, Sharapova and the rest of the 87-89 class just lack mental toughness.

Really gutted for Ana, I like only her and Kim but seeing how she implodes just like that having 5-1 0*-40, +2 more MP is catastrophe loss.

I can't believe how fragile she is mentally.

It is kind of Ironic that Kim has now in her career been on both sides of this really weird situation...of all people to know what Ana must be feeling now Kim does after the 2003 Aussie Open SF (although I don't remember if she actually had MP's or not...)...and now Kim has rebounded from down in that situation...just weird.

As for Ana...I don't even know what to say, I was really beginning to have some faith in her again and now this...kudos to Kim for toughing it out, but wow....just wow.

I think the match also shows Kim is going off the boil quite a bit right now. I dont know if it is injuries, lack of motivation for all the non slam events now, or just hard to mantain a high level for much longer when your principal focus is family. I was thinking she really needed to defend her title here and keep the #1 ranking within reach going into the clay season to keep herself on track as well.

It may have been an ugly match, but I do give credit to Sharapova for continuing to play her match after the ankle roll

^^^ Glad I did not see that. Dulgheru is probably kicking herself right now.

I remember Wickmayer won an AO match with 81UEs. I forgot who she pulled that off against.

Happy that Kim came through but really sad for Ana, winning would've really boosted her confidence and she definitely should've taken that one.

Since when has "mental toughness" ever been a problem for Maria Sharapova??? :-? Execution and consistency, yes a problem. Mental toughness, she has loads of it.

Agree, she won that last match purely on mental toughness.
I can't figure her out.
In the 3rd set she played a game to break where she looked like the #1 player, just crushing the ball. The next game she doublefaults twice, dumps a deep sitter out, and hits a meek 2nd serve and makes a backhand error. I think, maybe she's about to fall apart. She then toughs out some clutch points in the tiebreaker despite her ankle injury to win.

The Good, The Bad, and Winning Ugly.

Famous excuses, excuses, on the WTA tour to persistently explain the crap tennis that has been going around the tour for the last 2-3 years... what's Maria's for the 70 000 UEs ? Though I really like her I find none...

I certainly don't doubt Kim's sincerity... but she's suspicious since it isn't the first time where she plays club level and still keeps winning... USO 2010 was full of this nonsense bar maybe the final... at the start it showed how weak the girls around are but as this keeps going it becomes tiring and questionable...

Don't forget also that she has complained not long from now of how troublesome she found the WTA calendar... which adds to all the rest...

I'd have to agree with that. She frustrates me with the shrieking and the typical high-UE "brainless" bashing (though if she's playing well the bashing looks essentially the same, yet isn't brainless), but Maria is almost always mentally tough. She doesn't get rattled, she continues to play her game in tight situations, and she always competes until the end.

Agree. She is like the female Nadal when it comes to mental toughness but the only difference is she loses a lot!
