The "What's Wrong With Her?" Thread

So we have a #1 that does well throughout the year and plays every event she can enter, but hasn't made a slam final since USO 2009. A #2 that seems to flick off clay season with conveniently timed injuries. A #3 that enjoys being the maid of honor in finals year round. A #4 that is a one-trick pony and looking set to fall pretty soon. And a #5 that has 4 titles in the past year, but hasn't gotten past the 4th round in the last 4 majors.

Parity... or utter mediocrity. You decide.

I am now getting the impression Kims goal for the year is to win Wimbledon and defend her U.S Open. Once she won Australia she was more than happy to take a pass on the next 5 months or so and look for any way to do so.

Dementieva has a weird grunt when she hits the ball.

Dementieva's grunt is kinda sexy. However, nobody's grunt, male or female, is as impressive as Schiavone's. She makes the entire ATP sound like a bunch of gurlies! AHHHHH HEEEE! AHHHH HEWWWW!! :D

She redid her website and it is pretty cool I think. Francesca's Website

She's a fun player to watch whether she is winning or losing. Gutsy!

Cibulkova defeats Ivanovic. Further proof that FO title was a fluke as this was on clay.

Yep, Ivanovic retired after blowing a 3-0 lead in the 2nd set. Couldn't even give Cibulkova a proper victory.

Today Hantuchova and Rybáriková managed to lose against Jankovic and Krunic in doubles after being up 6-2 5-1, and 0-30 on Jankovic's serve. The final result was 2-6 7-5 9-7.

Schiavone has withdrawn from Stuttgart due to "exhaustion", but her only match in weeks has been a one-set exo against Caro. That REALLY begs the question "What's wrong with her?"!

what is wrong with shahar!!!! all she needs to do is enter one tournament and win a round to get in the top 10. she is five points away!!!!!! but now bartoli will probably pass her this week.

Well, she was in genuine pain, her abs were taped and also cried as she went straight to physio.

You forgot to mention that they also had 2 match points at 5:4 in 2nd set and Hantuchova was serving! :) This was a big time choke....they still don't really understand what happened to them during the match :) It could have been a different story if Cibulkova played this double instead of Rybarikova. Slovaks will need to play in World Group II next year.

^^^ If it involves Dani, it's bound to break. I didn't get a chance to see that match, but LOL at that massive choke. Hantuchova is a very good doubles player, so she should have guided the team to victory. Rybarikova is as inconsistent as she is pretty.

According to her wiki page she's been diagnosed with "vasovagal syncope" it is defined as temporary loss of consciousness, associated with a fall in blood pressure. Hopefully she recovers from it eventually.

Rezai down a set to Rux if she loses this just adds to the freefall.

More on A Chak
STUTTGART, Germany (AP)—Anna Chakvetadze of Russia became ill and had to retire from her first-round match at the Porsche Grand Prix on Tuesday, the third straight tournament she’s had to quit because of dizzy spells.

Chakvetadze, a former top-10 player who had to qualify for the event, also retired from tournaments in Dubai and Indian Wells. Chakvetadze had a strong start before retiring at 6-1, 5-7, 4-4 against Zuzana Kucova of Slovakia.

“I started the match feeling fine but I knew it (the dizziness) was coming and started to feel worse in the second set, the same feeling as the last two times,” Chakvetadze said in a statement distributed by the WTA. “I have seen a doctor and don’t really have anything more to update at the moment. I saw the doctors at home before the tournament and they told me everything would be OK, which is why I decided to play here.”

That is too harsh on poor Ivanovic. She was genuinely injured and was in pain and crying. Also should have mentioned that she easily beat Hantuchova 64 62 on Saturday.

Hantuchova choked away two matches. First vs Jankovic which she lost 26 63 57 and than that epic doubles match 62 57 79 after being up 62 51.

Anyway it was very exciting and fun to watch despite the quality.

Safina won a match pretty easily. Maybe there's hope. She doesn't look in good shape, though.

Safina isn't in great shape. Just seems her back injury will just linger for as long as she plays. It's not like her style of game is effortless, either. She seems to be padding a few more pounds compared to last year. IMO she'll need to change her game to shorten the points because her bashing isn't going to do her back any favors.

German tennis will be huge again in a couple of time... Sabine and Andrea what great players... Julia needs to and will follow wether she likes it or not... these 3 girls at peak for the next 4 to 5yrs. would be mesmerizing.

Azarenka retires again? And she won the 1st set 6-4. I think I may be coming to soy's side when it comes to Vika's retirements, she's the Djokovic of the WTA (taken Jankovic's mantle).

Azarenka retires against Goerges with right shoulder injury. Seems winning 2 tournaments didn't make all her bad trends go away all of a sudden.

I hope she is ok but I did lol when I saw the result. I cant recall a player in recent memory who retires so much.

She caught the injury in Fed Cup which explains why she didn't play her 2nd. match but instead of skipping Stuttgart and take some rest, she still decided to play a none obligatory event... she's really crazy. :(

Anyways it gives a great German show off.

actually, no,..she made enough points post FO so she will stay in the top 10 i think...

Not likely no, between now and French, according to the tour Website, Schiavone has 2,490 points to defend, her points from her wins in Barcelona and at the French. She has 280 for Barcelona which is next week and I don't even know if she is scheduled to play there as of now. She has 2000 for her French Open win, and another 210 from Rome and Madrid....so about half of her points are up for defense in the next month or so...she needs to step up her game. If she falls early at the French she will fall out of the top 10 for sure, especially if she doesn't defend in Barcelona

Azarenka and her retirements..... sheeesh! 8 retirements in a bit over a year. She's more fragile than Hantuchova for crying out loud!

I like Vika, but until she toughens up physically and mentally she's not hoisting slam trophies. She's complained about shoulder problems before (after winning Miami in 2009) and what has she done about it since then? Hopefully there's nothing more to her ailments, but this has been a disturbing pattern along with her giving up when the opponent fights back.

k so it looked like to me bepa just got outplayed by stosur in stuttgart, but that aside, wth is up with her strings? she was playing with her coach's racquet at one point! is she stringing that thing with easter grass????

What exactly does Vera use for a grommet? Apparently that special piece is behind the majority of the broken strings. Having to use your coach's racquet as backup? Girl, get with the times and ditch the funky grommet.

Safina has some injury against Pivovarova and she can barely move, playing on and still manages to break Pivovarova. If Pivovarova doesn't win this she should just retire.

Safina prayed for rain and Allah answered: match is now suspended. So she can go inside and hit the physio bed and nurse herself for a while

Safina must thank her lucky stars the numerous rain delays came, its matches like this that makes want to give up watching women's tennis.
