2014 Claro Open Colombia - General Discussion Thread

I haven't watched Pospisil after last year's summer HC season. He is now playing S/V against Tomic. Has he played S/V the whole year?

huh?

Richard loses to Victor Estrella? What a shock!!

Kudos to Victor for playing so well after years on the Challenger tour!

Estrella vs Tomic
Stepanek vs Karlovic

Estrella - 33
Tomic - 21
Stepanek - 35
Karlovic - 35

They harp on about age when these evergreens keep on rolling.

Mon Bernie, win the whole thing.

Would be such a slap in the face. All the medias been going on with crap like "Bernie-who?" And how Kyrgios is better.

May only be a 250, but the confidence boost will serve him well.

If Tomic wins this tournament this year will have been so bizarre; finals at Sydney followed by hip surgery and the shortest loss in ATP history then followed by an immediate tournament win after Wimbledon.

Tomic's career is cray.

He's up to 94th in the live rankings, and moves back to 70 with a tournament win. Although beating Karlovic may be tricky, that is if both make it to said final.

so we could have again a "33 vs 35" final, as last week in newport (hewitt d. karlovic)... which was the oldest tour-level final since 1977 !

Dr Ivo is fast becoming my fav player, only Murray is above him (not literally), and Foggy is close.

So disappointed for Pospisil. This whole tournament really came crashing down for him. He loses to Tomic in the QF's so he doesn't defend his SF points from last year, and then he and Stepanek pull out of their doubles QF match for whatever reason.

Not just this whole tournament but this whole year. This guy just can't win that many back to back matches and can't seem to stay healthy for that long. Nice result winning the Wimbledon doubles, but singles is the main focus. Good win for Tomic though, another young guy who is going in the wrong direction.

That was one of the worst matches I've ever seen Richard play. How much I miss the 2013 Richard: confident, injury-free.:(
Anyway, lots of congrats to Estrella Burgos, great story: http://www.atpworldtour.com/News/Tennis/2014/03/12/Miami-Estrella-Burgos-Feature.aspx

Well, that's what I thought! :/ Great effort from Victor Estrella Burgos - thumbs up! But what was wrong with Richard? Did you see the highlights?
Forehand slice - wtf ?

I know right? How bad must his forehand have been on that day to resort to forehand slices? He hit one topspin forehand in that entire highlight reel, the one on matchpoint which wasn't too good..

Saw the entire match and the loss was really the last thing that bothers me right now. He appeared to be picking both his back and his right elbow. This season has been a terrible disappointment, especially after last year. Let's hope it's not something serious.

Match point to Tomic and after an exchange of passing shots Tomic pushes a smash wide. If he loses this match that will haunt him.

Tomic wins 7/6 3/6 7/6. Beating Karlovic in two tiebreaks is no small feat. Congratulations to Tomic on his second ATP title!

Tomic wins as a Wildcard.

Let's see if he can build on this....I doubt it as he seems happy just in the 60s/50s.

Karlovic is in great form, I hope he can still end his season in the 20s in the world!
