How is this borderline obese out of curiosity? Looks pretty good to me, she was borderline obese with that catsuit last year but this is good.

Serena's undoing is her worn out knee's, no cartilage left, similar to Andy Murray's hip injury. She has just worn them out, being big boned probably hasn't helped her situation.

I would not say obese but she still could slimmer down IMO.
In this pic it seems she clenching and flexing a bit. Pretty similar with her 2 months pregnant AO. Her USO 2016

Well, within the context of the WTA. Obviously she is fitter than the average person but compared with the other WTA players it is obvious she carrying around a larger mass than most if not all...

Not obese but def too much lower body weight there. But then, you gotta play tennis or at least some sport to understand that. Fed or Rafa may be more broad shouldered but are way more ripped than Serena. It's not even close. For the WTA SJWs to suggest we are being unfair in not criticizing Fed or Rafa's movement as much as Serena is ridiculous. Duh, they simply move way better. And yes, I know, it's hard for her, she's a mother now. I take cognisance of that. But the tennis scoreboard does not and cannot. Ultimately she was just another player there out on court and she lost because she didn't move well. And she didn't move well because her fitness is also subpar. A fit player wouldn't be breathing heavily already in the second game of the second set.

Well, I said Serena looks to be about 15-20 too heavy...pounds over what would be recommended for her height. That puts her in the "overweight" category, not far from mild, or level 1, obesity.

Serena carries a lot of extra weight in the buttocks, hips and upper thighs... which this photo does not show. Serena actually picked an outfit that flatters her figure this year.

Very sad but not surprising. Had people in there wishing Serena would fall and injure herself and then others making vile sexist comments. Wish the mods would just ban the hate-filled trolls instead of deleting entire threads but I guess that’s a wish that will never be granted.

It's criminal that great thread was deleted. Lot of good posts amid the caca. (Pardon my Spanish). Wish they would just delete the offending posts and ban the repeat offenders as they've done in the past... or has that not been the case in the PMRD and GPPD as it has been in the other discussion groups?

Look at her last 3 slam final performances. The pressure of 24 is looming HUGE for her now. I wish she could just relax, but she is clearly putting a lot of pressure on herself when she gets to a slam final now. She did not play the same tennis she did to reach the final in either of her prior 2 slam finals either. And to a minor degree some of the ones before that, despite winning a couple. When you are really nervous you dont move your feet and get set in perfect position, and when movement is a relative weakness for older post maternity Serena to begin with, that leads to her being off a split step and more errors.

She also had an fairly easy draw (so did Halep mind you) with all the upsets, and was playing a tougher opponent than her previous rounds.
All of the above, but as I wrote in the deleted Final thread, if I were a Williams fan, I'd be less concerned with her finals performances but with choking a 5-1 final set (2match points?) against Pliskova at the AO. That was a huge indication of how fragile she's become mentally. Had she ever done that before? Her finals have witnessed, to the extreme on one occasion, that she's not handling the pressure, but nothing like blowing that AO lead.

But it was a case of two extremes of opposing views. I don't like Williams, but the pro Williams fanatics jump on the more vitriolic comments (rightly) with equal measure as they do the perfectly valid posts reflecting on her lack of fitness, movement and weight issues. As I've also seen on many an ATP thread.
Reason goes out of the window.

Halep earnt her win - and in spectacular fashion.

Agree but she was good enough to destroy everyone up to the Semifinals ..... so not sure why all of sudden she starts to make ton of UE's in the final....

Because Halep is a much better player than anyone she played before the final and was able to devise a strategy to throw Serena off balance and play solid defensive tennis to beat Serena and use her her game against her. Serenas game has the potential to have high levels of UEs...but she can also usually generate the winners to make any UEs not matter. Halep drove up the UE number and refused to allow Serena the winners with her defense. Halep used her speed and defense to wear Serena down and effectively took her apart.

The issue I find with this is, i'm someone who the majority of the forum will think only supports Williams because I defend her til the moon and back. But I didn't expect her to win this final, I didn't tip her to win this Wimbledon and I tell my friends that Serena isn't the perfect angel they think she is. But people on this forum from Onyx to Vapordude to mr feeny etc etc call Serena a whale, an elephant, a ***** and much, much worse. That's where my issue comes in. You mention the Pro Williams fanatics but the thing is, what we say aren't anything like what the anti Williams fanatics say. You can say Serena has a lack of movement and that she hasn't played enough warm up events and you can say her weight is maybe questionable, that's perfectly fine, but to call her an elephant? To say she's morbidly obese? No. That's where the issue comes in.

I don't disagree with your points but other people made equally valid points about Serena's mobility (and weight) that got jumped all over.
And frankly whilst there is the odd racist comment, it's so easy (and lazy) to condemn everyone thus that quite simply doesn't like Williams - and for some of us, her own behaviour has led to this dislike. And that's on her. And not a reflection of the colour of her skin.
And I guarantee that at least two posters will seize on this opinion and revert to the usual defence.
Re the content of the deleted thread, those that became engaged in a war ALL looked rather silly regardless of being pro/anti Williams.

Serena was more worried about getting thru this final without blowing a gasket, than she was on winning.

Borderline obese, she can still win slams. Lose about 15-20 pounds. Get the cardio back. Nadal and Djokovic were head cases a few years back, and were able to comeback and win slams. With the WTA....down.....her only real opponent is herself.

No her legs are gone and she can't get to the ball, when a clever player makes it difficult to play the big shot with the percentages on her side. Yes will still win a ball bash and intimidate those without full confidence but against top on form players she will lose EVERY time and easily.

The thing is, I was in the Wimbledon final thread and not one person said anything about racism. Meanwhile, I was accused of race baiting except I never called anyone a racist, just a sexist for calling Serena words like elephant and tubbo and morbidly obese. Serena is not a great ambassador for the sport, she's not the greatest female tennis player of all time (that belongs to Graf), she wasn't the favourite for the title but the people on this forum posting disgusting things about her should be called out for it. I stand by it.

I contributed to the Final thread and it just got silly. People having personal wars that just escalated.
But there were also some interesting posts, so it's a shame it was deleted.
I've had my own personal arguments with posters on other threads, but not this one.
It made for popcorn reading- with many a laugh along the way as I didn't invest, and, none of it aimed at me, which admittedly, makes for a less impassioned view.

And it's also a pity because Halep, the winner lest we forget, got an awful lot of credit.

I think if she was going to win another one then the AO would be best opportunity. I think there was an injury there that contributed to that defeat. Although Pliskova should have won in straights but switched off as she tends to do.

I already said that it was a shame it got deleted, I believe that the mods should have banned the trolls who called Serena a gorilla, elephant, morbidly obese etc. But they didn't, they deleted the thread instead. And yet instead of criticizing the vile posts you're talking about other things.

Halep deserves the world recognition and it's been given to her (just not on here). In case you hadn't noticed, I tipped Halep to win the title in the poll and expected her to win the final. I didn't expect the same trolls to compare Serena to animals though.

I rarely get upset over posts unless it's aimed at me libellously.
I don't feel the need to go to war over what people say about players. I've seen it too many times, plus I'd rather put energy in to my actual life rather than internet wars which rarely end up with people actually apologising for being clearly in the wrong.
Or being too conditioned to a mind-set that fails to see another point of view. A good example of this was the many posts regarding 'sexism' in the Final thread.
There were arguments made by people with opposing views, and I found myself agreeing with both and also laughing at others. I didn't comment because it became too personal.

I recall her post on the Final thread and it was very balanced.
So I'm not sure what your point is?
Unless it's as obvious as it reads, which is.. err.... that as a white male myself I should defend all white males?

Edit: maybe it was your post I read and found balanced? The post l read by a woman identifying herself as black, had some praise for Williams but her view had changed after the USO Final.
What was your view?

I took myself out of the conversation when it started spiraling and I actually told them to knock it off with the fatphobic comments. Actually criticism of Serena shouldn’t be lumped in with that. I was long gone in that thread before they deleted.

What was your view?

Yes, that was me.

The other alleged black woman was saying quite the contrary the last time I read the thread before it was nuked.

As for your previous comment, it’s not so much that I expect every black woman to support one another, but I do expect a black woman living in the USA to understand the contours of race and gender in this country to not further join in on the exploitation of the black female image.

Moreso if such woman not only identifies as Black but also presents herself on social media in a manner that would make one wonder why she criticizes something that she herself embodies.

And that is all I will say about that.

As anyone would imagine all Serena fans were extremely upset yesterday. Several of my girlfriends and I met to watch the match but after that first game or two, we went out to brunch knowing that this GS wasn’t going to be our win. And that’s what many people fail to realize. Serena’s win is a win for America and more specifically, Black Women.

Its my honest opinion that yesterday’s performance was a combination of Halep’s stellar performance and Serena’s mental stagnation. She couldn’t move, couldnt respond, she had no answers. I pray that she deals with her personal demons, and like others suggested get a few more matches in before GS tournaments.

Congratulations to Halep. I was of course rooting for her opponent but I must give credit where credit is due. Congrats to Romania as well!

Onward and forward we must go. And I am confident Serena will do just that.

Well then if you understand the awfulness of posts being aimed at you, you'd understand the awfulness of things being said about me. If you didn't care about internet wars than you wouldn't be arguing this. I've been demeaned and targetted even though I don't think Serena is the greatest, nor did i have her as the favourite yesterday. I just don't think she should be called an elephant, an animal etc etc. I'll leave that for you to decide.

Her legs may be gone, but getting to the ball didn't seem to be the problem, but once she got to the ball she was so unbalanced from the extra weight, legs, lack of cardio... that she'd either hit long or into the net.

All links together she can't run no more and even losing 10kgs isn't going to bring back what comes to us all. I expect looking at Williams overall shape coming in heavy is a tactical decision, her arms and shoulders are huge she has been training. Her aim coming back is to compensate by getting more power than ever and winning through pure serve and power. Nearly worked last year but Ang Kerber and her coaches put a plan together easily copied.

Just doing that won't include winning WTA Tennis events. As a Tennis non American fan I will say the great original story of the Williams sisters quickly turned sour and overall has been a huge negative for women's Tennis. Sporting integrity counts for far more than any individual.

Yes she is massively feeling the pressure in general. Mental toughness used to be a strength of hers, I believe she holds the record for slam matches won being down match point. Now it is a weakness.

I think the whole quest for 24 (ultimately 25) is crippling her. She needs to find a way to relax, but I know it isnt easy. The pressure is more intense since she is nearing 40 and knows she does not have a ton of time left. And the state of the womens game is improving from a few years back, what Serena has been doing in her 30s is unbelievable and unprecedented in womens tennis history, but was also aided for awhile by a dearth of up and coming talent, but that is no longer the case. The mens game is at that place now, not the womens. She knows this too and adds to the accelerated race and pressure in her own mind I am guessing.

Serena was extaordinarily off but Halep as also near perfect. 17 winners and 3 unforced errors.

Vapordude said she MOVED like an elephant. You know, like how elephants move so slowly as opposed to sprinting like a cheetah. It is not the same thing as calling her an elephant. Naturally, once you decide to willfully ignore syntax, everything appears impossibly bigoted to you. Even on the occasions when it isn't. Now that poster has a history of insulting Serena, but that doesn't mean we have to go two steps ahead and pre-empt him when he isn't. Saying she moves like an elephant is at the most rude. It is not remotely bigoted.
