In contrast, Musetti beat Carlos in Hamburg (clay) last year. Because Musetti, unlike Tsitsipas, has a world class 1HBH which he can redirect at will. There are so many options Musetti has with that 1 hander. That's what you need to be competitive against Alcaraz. You need to be solid on both wings. With a very obvious liability like the Stef BH, Tsitsipas is severely limited against the best all-court player of this era. There is nothing he can do.
Glad others are starting to see the genius of The Muchete

Tsitsipas does not have a BH DTL, can't redirect any balls on his BH side down the line. So right off the bat he gives off so much court for Alcaraz to execute his plan to perfection. Unless Tsitsipas develops a reliable, consistent BH DTL he has no prayer against Alcaraz on any surface. Absolutely none.
Maybe if he had a better cross court backhand he wouldnt need so much a bckhand dtl, but its usually short and when he gets rushed on that wing he is rarely able to produce a quality shot

That was clean and exciting to watch from Alcz. Tsitsi was no slouch and Alcz just kept the pressure on to find the cracks. Future looks bright with Carlos and the like leading the way.

Part of the reason why Alcaraz can use the dropper with a higher frequency then anyone else though is the space and threat his forceful pressure off both wings opens up to him. His tempo is extremely high and brutal.
The raw power from both wings while taking the ball early, often inside the court, combined with the softest of hands is truly a deadly combo.
How do you defend against the big forehand while guarding the dropper? Almost impossible

And the space he creates, as you mention, allows him to hit his droppers with plenty of safety margin

Add in the Murray like lob and opponents are truly screwed

That's why I was disappointed that Musetti wasn't going to be Alcaraz's rival in the Barcelona final.
I hope the Italian can defeat the 'Philosopher' the next time they meet.
Musetti will be the dark horse at the next Roland Garros.

I agree. Alcaraz isn't invulnerable and has had issues with Musetto and Sinner. Matchups make the game interesting.

Would love to see a new B4 of Alcaraz, Rune, Sinner, Musetti.

Well, one thing you can do (which Stef didn't even try) is not to go for a fast forhand from outside the doubles alley over and over which if it isn't a one in ten winner (and isn't an error from the pressure of having to hit one), will get eaten alive and instead build the point around deep and difficult topsin high to Carlos.

It's what any intelligent player on clay with the capacity to do so should be doing and Stef barely even tried it. Alcaraz is an awesome player but tactically, Stef plays right into his wheelhouse.

Obviously someone like Nadal could do what we're discussing but it doesn't require his level to make it effective to some degree (it's too bad Thiem is still a shadow of his old self as well for that matter).
