Might be seeing the same outfit on Halep and Bellis in their QF match coming up in a half hour or so.

Was pretty close on this. Bellis wearing the same outfit Garcia. Simona wearing the same Nike shorts; vur with a different top.

Ouch, Cici gets the bagel in the 1st set. 'tis a shame. She had Simona on the run on the last point, moved the ball around quite well, but then hits it into the net.

It's amazing how hard a person of such height like Halep can hit. She overpowered Cici who normally hits quite hard herself.

Halep finally starts making some UE and Cici gets 2 games in a row after losing 7 in a row.

Cici looked nervous. Maybe the nerves finally calms down.

Great to see that CC has won both of her service games in the 2nd set. I believe that her coach said the right thing -- but mostly just confirmed what she already knew.

EDIT: Guess I was wrong abt that. They actually exhanged breaks.

They both hit with very decent pace but are not really the biggest hitters in the WTA. I believe that Bellis faced a bit more power from Kasatkina, Keys and Pliskova.

Definitely not the biggest hitter. I'm more referring to height/power ratio. From that list, I think Pliskova hits the hardest. Kasatkina at 5'7" is the same height as Cici - not sure who hits harder she or Cici, but yeah both of these ladies hit the crap out of the balls for a 5'7".

She might be like Justine (Henin) and never bilk up. She'll be 19 in a couple of months. Her best bet is to keep working on her serve to make it more reliable and more of a weapon.
I thought Justine did add some bulk starting around 2003/4. Her arms and legs seemed fuller around that time. I'd be surprised if CiCi didn't add some mass in the next few years but yeah, you never know.

IMO, the 'unpredictability' of WTA creates exciting match up like this. Lots of first meeting type of matches with up-and-coming player.

Another exciting match coming up between two grinder Kerber v Caro 'marathon' Wallniacki with Kerber having an 8-5 H2H advantage over Caro.

Qualifying draw in Dubai is stacked.

Carla, Tsurenko, Stosur, Wang and Osaka all surely high enough to be main draw but i'm guessing didn't enter and therefore are playing qualifying?

Other huge names: Errani, Sabalenka, Vondrousova, Duan, Giorgi, Diyas, McHale and Hsieh.

Maybe for Navarro, but Tsurenko, Stosur, Wang and Osaka are ranked closely. Funny that last acceptance is Skamlova which ranked outside 200. Maybe a lot of players went to Hungary instead for bigger possibility of advancing than Dubai.

Perhaps a bit. Didn't notice any bulking up. Henin = 5'6", like Halep. I believe that Halep is a bit over 130 lbs whereas Henin was in the low (to mid) 120s. Bellis is nearly an inch taller but only weighs abt 110 right now.

Sad that CC lost the 2nd set, but she put up a respectable fight in that set.

And Kerber has been the victor in their last 2 meetings. For the past 3 years, it's 3-1, Kerber. OTOH, the only player that's been playing as well & consistently as Woz lately, is Halep. (With Muguruza as an honorable mention).

Just noticed that Halep is WTA #1 again in the Live Ranking. But if Woz wins her QF match against Kerber, she'll be #1. At least for now.

And Muguruza regains the #3 spot regardless of what happens in the next round. Görges can conceivably surpass Kerber as the #1 German player this weekend.

Great game that, Woz just with the edge in will and fitness in the end. Shame Simone is injured, hope she can fire up straight away when she comes back because the competition at the top is hotting up. Hard to see Woz getting beaten on these courts in Doha.

Seems that Görges retired in her QF match against Kvitova. Anybody watching, tell us why?

Garbine has a decent chance. Gets a rest/freebie since Simona pulled out. Caroline still has to get past Petra.
