Seems like it's starting a week later than usual next year. If Djokovic can avoid Medvedev and Wawrinka then you'd have to put him as the favourite but it might also depend how strong the Next Gen will be at the beginning of the season. Should be a good one.

Tournament threads for the last two editions of the AO were created just after the DC finals of the previous seasons, so the precedent for the release of the tournament thread of AO in November already exists. At least this gives you the opportunity to share your expectations / predictions to AO 2020 in off-season.

In 2020 year, the type of hard surface will change again at AO. In mid-2019, company GreenSet won the tender and will supply courts not only for the AO, but also for the new ATP Cup, tournaments in Adelaide (ATP), Brisbane (WTA) and Hobart (WTA). The color of the courts will remain blue.

Considering the climate and the outdoor nature of the tournament, I guess it will be similar to the 2016 Olympics surface.

What I mean by this is,

Murray will win AO.

Inb4 Federer makes a claim he’s feeling betterer than everer and the courts are nice 'n fast, only to lose to Struff the next day.

Taking 2019 and the indoors season in context, it's a GOLDEN chance for ROFL Nedl at the AO next year.

Really gonna be interesting,this is Djokovic' s den,nadal is in one of the most consistent phases of his career, newgen(Medvedev, tsitsipas and sort of thiem)are on the rise like never in last few years, Federer's most successful slam since last few years add into mix likes of Wawrinka, del potro,kyrgios(if this guy finally shows up) then we could be in for a hell of a ride.Come fast 2020 just for this fun slam!!!

Second year running that Dunlop will be manufacturers of the official ball.

This is going to be the most interesting tournament in years. The GOAT debate is hotting up and it seems like it could become a 3 horse race.

Ofcourse if Nadal wins all debate is over, because not only will he draw level with Federer on twenty slams, but he will also nab the Double Career Slam, a unique accomplishment in this era.
But Nadal is always the bridesmaid never the bride at the Australian Open, ending finalist at 2 of the last 3 editions.

The natural favourite should be Djokovic, since he is the greatest player of all time at this event, although probably Federer has more semifinal appearance so its about even. Novak struggles mentally these days, and has had bizarre "gone walkabouts" moments in both the French Open and Us Open and WTF this year. Its strange because oridinarily he is so storng mentally, but it seems like he just wakes up on the wrong side of the bed these days, and goes down meekly at the really important events. First time I noticed this was Dominic Thiem match RG 2017.

The next gen are all very threatening now, compared with 2 years ago and I think, dimitrov, Thiem, Zverev, Tsitipas and Medvedev all pose a danger to the big three. But I think its still too early for a youngster to way all the way and win it. That being said, its the most wide open slam in a long while. I think anything can happen and the script has been thrown out the window completely.

Djokovic struggles mentally at times but never at AO. Although that could change. It will take Stanimal version 2.0 or a red hot Med or Thiem or Tsitsipas to take him down. Not sure Federer or Nadal can do it.

Aus open is wide open this time I feel, djokovic isn't the dominant beast of 3-4 yrs back, nadal just doesn't cross the finish line here, fed is well 38 rest there are genuine next genners who are coming up the ladder Medvedev's rise doesn't decieve me infact he seriously looks the resl deal to me, tsitsipas just won his first big title and I feel it will do more good to him than bad, thiem is in the best phase of his career especially on hard courts. I feel big 3 this time genuinely can be beaten by next gen but if they aren't now then this year will be again bog 3 or rather big 2 and they will only be stopoed by there own age like Federer.

Wawrinka has zero to negative 50% chance on these low bouncing fast HC against nole..

It'll be fun when james blake says in an ESPN2 interview a week before the tournament that the courts are playing low and fast and all of the maestronians erupt in celebration.

All the courts except RG do not favor Rafa and even there the balls are going to be changed from next year + roof. But if Rafa does well then all courts are slow no?

When did Nadal ever really struggle on any court? He just changed up a few things in his game and he was fine. Most surfaces play the same way. It's not that big a challenge. Even Ferrer and numerous clay courters have had great results across all the Slams.

The surface isn't necessarily the problem in their matchups in the Slams. The problem is Stan doesn't give 2 sh*ts about Djokovic or his game. And Djokovic isn't himself when he sees Stan on the other end in a best of 5. He's got some type of mental block.

I think he'd have slightly stronger feelings towards this event.

I'm going out on a limb and saying a next gen star will win. Here's who I think have good chances: Medvedev, Tsitsipas, Beretini, and Shapovalov as a long shot.

The next 20 years will see 80 slams so 40 for those two and 40 for everyone else.

@Mike Sams Remember that most of the trolls here who profess to be Nadal/Djokovic "fans" are more accurately Fed haters. It's quite clear that their main priority is to root against Federer and celebrate his losses as opposed to celebrating their favorite's wins. The 40-15 crowd and VB'ers personify that. It's an interesting psychological malady and seen here a lot.
