This should be a battle. Sinner needs to replicate his performance against Alcaraz and he'll have his chances without a doubt.

Djokovic winning here could mean he has the title in the bag. Sinner is the Bull's last hope of getting his hands on the trophy.

lol this is NID.

I’ll give Sinner a set just for Djokovic losing concentration or temporary GOATing

Hoping for Novak in 3. 1 tight set for sure, then two more straightforward ones
7-6, 6-4, 6-2 or something like that?

How well did Sinner play today?

If he was truly as good as I’m reading then why can’t he take a set or two…? Will need to watch a replay, I think his ballstriking and return will give Nole problems for sure, Djokovic doesn’t like being outhit on both wings.

Without a doubt, but until Rafa loses I’m all good.

I rewatched some of his match vs Sonego and he looked unstoppable. Total destruction. He’s playing well after a shaky start, so not writing him off.
For me he’s still the biggest threat to Novak. Can never count the guy out anywhere as we all know but probably grass is the hardest surface for him to pull it off. Still it’s Nadal so you can never rule him out as you say.

I thought he played a good match, but he didn't play as well as some might think. Don't get me wrong - he was good, but Carlos Alcaraz also bailed him out at times. He also showed some nerves closing it out and had several match points.

He has the game to maybe push Novak Djokovic maybe even more than van Rijthoven did, but he'll have to raise his level of play for sure. Has to do better with his first serve as well - he steadily declined on that today. If Novak Djokovic serves decently and doesn't get loose with the FH, Sinner would probably at most get a set, IMHO. But.....you never know for sure - down to the QF's.

That's the key. I think Nole can get a bit loose, especially against the Sinner return. But he is the big match player to beat all big match players, arguably.

Sinner looks like me when I was 14 doing all nighters and playing COD until it was time for school in the morning.

Yep.
Nothing in Sinner's game can hurt Nova
For sinner to have any chance he will have to play at 120% and hope Novak is at 80%.

The main issue with Sinner though is mental. He folds very easily when behind. In RG 20 against Nadal he looked great in the 1st set and then folded once he lost it. Similar performances against Nadal in RG 21 and Tsitsipas in AO 22.

Tsitsipas in AO 2022 was a diff ball game, he was never in the lead. He had a poor strategy and he was being moved around in the court. Im sure if they play next time on a hard court, I can guarantee you that Tsitsipas will be losing 100%. In fact i can bet by year end 2023, Sinner will be higher ranked than Tsitsipas

I agree with what you say. Sinner was odds on favorite going into the match. Yes he started poorly and went behind early. The issue however is there was not much fight after that. He should have tried to mix things up, change tactics.

If he goes behind against Novak, I just don't see him fighting it out. I hope I am proved wrong though.

He's young and inexperienced, as I say, the next time they play. Tsitsipas will be losing for sure. I dont think Sinner will win his match against Novak but if his first serve percentage is below 60%, then its a routine win for Novak.

Ofcourse Tsitsipas will most likely fall behind sinner quickly. His BH is a big liability everywhere except clay. Sinner is too good a player not to take advantage of that.

Though for Sinner I don't think beating Tsitsipas is a big deal. The ambition has to be beating Novak/Rafa.

Yes exactly, Tsitsipas is a fraud

Sinner:s movement will be exposed big time and Djokovic is not going to gift him free points at important points to get bail Outta trouble. Novak in 3 or 4.

Sinner was playing pretty well.
Good enough to take a set vs Djoko IMO.

Sinner plays well but his serve (while more aggressive than it used to) is still a massive liability. It was enough against Alcaraz but a similar serving performance and he won't last more than 3 sets against Djokovic...

Agreed. He badly needs 10% more first serves in for the match to be competitive

How could anyone? No one of the sane mind should... Can't wait for the Novak vs Rafa final..

Another dangerous match looms for Djokovic here. Sinner is playing some of his best ever tennis on grass, big wins over Isner and Alcaraz.

This isn't going to be easy, but Djokovic still will have edge here to see this through. A potential classic in the making.
? djokovic did u see him play that rijthoven dude. the returns were insane...
