Another week, another Premier Mandatory tournament.

Seeded players are: Halep, Wozniacki, Muguruza, Svitolina, Pliskova, Ostapenko, Garcia, Venus, Kvitova, Kerber, Konta, Goerges, Sloane, Keys, Mladenovic, Coco, Rybarikova, Kuznetsova, Kasatkina, Sevastova, Barty, Mertens, Pavlyuchenkova, Vesnina, Strycova, Gavrilova, Suarez Navarro, Kontaveit, Bertens, Radwanska, Zhang and Cirstea.

Wildcards have gone to: Anismova, Azarenka, Liu, Mattek-Sands, Osuigwe, Pera, Tomljanovic and Serena Williams.

Withdrawals so far: Domi, Konjuh, Lucic-Baroni (what has happened to her?), Peng, Safarova and Sharapova.

Konta is the defending champ in singles whilst Dabrowski/Xu are the defending doubles champs.

Booted Ostapenko as a poll option and replaced her with Kerber. Also couldn't include defending champ Konta as her ranking has dropped off and I didn't know who to kick out.

I voted "other"...instead of Garcia ( I'm French and I know that French players, men and women, are mentally weak...I blame mostly the French media, with the morons writing for the daily "l'Equipe" in first spot also some sponsors "spoiling" upcoming (French) players as soon as they get top 50...).
Poll should have included young guns like Kasatkina and Osaka.
Cheers !! and looking forward to watch the I.Wells finals.

Naomi for the Sunshine Double :D

Yeah that is a rough draw for sure.

Hopefully muguruza wins a few matches this time. Indian Wells was bad for me with all my favorites other than Roger having a bad week.

Mugu will play the winner of Anisimova vs. Wang
Thanks.

Anisimova will probably be tough too. Imagine the crowd will be behind her, although maybe its possible that mugu will have plenty of fans too. Miami always seems to have a lot of South American fans. Maybe not Venezuelan fans, but who knows.

There is a HUGE Venezuelan community in S.Florida. With the troubles occurring in Venezuela many people have fled to S. Florida. But Amanda is from S. Florida. Last year Amanda was on a outer court where she played Taylor Townsend and it was packed.

They have Roberta Vinci listed in the qualifying draw as playing Saschia Vickery in Q1 but Vinci is also listed in the main draw as the 25th seed. What's up with that? She isn't even seeded in the qualifying draw.

The thread was done before the final so it was still between Osaka and Kasatkina. Which two was I going to bump them for?

Halep's #1 and was an Indian Wells SFist.
Woz #2 and the Aus champ.
Muguruza the #3 and Wimbledon champ.
Svitolina #4 and Dubai champ.
Pliskova #5 and a QFist in Indian Wells.
Garcia #6 and QFist in Doha and Dubai and 4R Indian Wells.
Venus #8 and a SFist in Indian Wells.
Kerber #10 in great form. SFist as Aus Open and Dubai, QFist in Doha and IW.
Serena. Well I just had to include her.
And then I needed a spot for 'other'.

And at the very least, an honorable mention needs to go out to Petra Kvitova. A couple premier 2018 titles, a 14-match winning streak, etc.

If Osaka beats Serena ...

Serena is not in top form, but she's not going to go down easily. I bet Serena is going to get pumped up even more facing the young Osaka. Hoping for an interesting match. Battle of two power players.

I can't believe Serena and Osaka are meeting in the 1R. I swear, it's as if the draw was fixed (yes, I know it's not).

I think it will give extra fire to Serena to face little Serena :p, so should be a good match. Hopefully, she plays it cool and doesn't lose her head like she was doing against Vee.

Unfortunately, I think she's gonna be done in 2R if she does get past Naomi. Svitolina? I don't think she's ready for that.

If Serena keeps getting draws this screwed up, she's gonna have to enter some less prestigious tournaments to get match play.

Svitolina? Osaka is much better then Svitolina now! If Serena can get pass Osaka; she in line to win Miami again.

Naomi might be a bit tired/deflated from her huge run at IW title, plus her style matches up with Serena's much better than Svitolina's does. Serena likes big hitters.

Of course Naomi is the favorite between the two (she's in much better shape and super confident), but if she does go down, I still expect Serena not to make it past round 2. Her draw just sucks.

Naomi Osaka celebrates with coach Sascha Baijin after winning the BNP Paribas Open
Naomi Osaka's bad draw luck continues.

The newly-minuted BNP Paribas Open champion will have no time for a let-down in Miami, where she's been drawn to play Serena Williams in the first round, with the winner to play No.4 Elina Svitolina in the second round. This comes two weeks after she drew Maria Sharapova in the first round of Indian Wells and played Agnieszka Radwanska in the second round.

It will be the first career meeting between Osaka and her idol Serena. Adding further intrigue to the match-up is the fact that Serena's long-time hitting partner Sascha Baijin now coaches Osaka. It's a match that Osaka has been looking forward to for a long time.

"There's basically three people I want to play: Venus, Maria, and Serena. I ticked two off, so now I'm just waiting to play Serena," Osaka said after beating Sharapova in Indian Wells. "I'm looking forward to that.""

I have a hard time imagining Naomi beating Serena even though she probably should.

But if she's able to beat Serena in a competitive match, I'll bet that Naomi will win a slam this year.

Naomi's serve is still far too breakable atm for me to believe she is really ready to defeat Serena.

A few months with Sascha has fixed a lot, Osaka's DTL backhand was a big weakness 2 years ago too.
