Womp wompSensational stuff from Ruud to break back. Perhaps firing up now after a flat first hour?
Womp womp
Phew, not this time thoughRuud seems to have a habit of sneaking through to finals lol
Surprisingly not. I’d given up on FAA winning any match of note.Phew, not this time though
Capibara.. why yes; yes indeed! Good call.Felix and the Mallorcan Capibara are the only two players to face Sinner multiple times and always defeat him. Can the Carrot Man get both monkeys off his back in one fell swoop? Or will his kryptonite strike again?
He's fully healthy for the first time since last year.A rare top performance from FAA. Happens from time to time. Good to see him play this well!
Seems to be moving and seeing the ball incredibly well this week, could definitely see him continue hereI'm not counting on FAA to win a Slam or get to Sinner or Alcaraz level or anything, but he is young and can, at times, put it together. So - if healthy - he can be sort of an unknown floater at any tourney. I'm not really that shocked he beat Ruud.
Oh well...Ruud vs Sinner on clay is exactly the type of match Sinner needed. He should be favorite now that he will get 1 day rest. His level will be very high in QF.
Yes, I was thinking the same thing. He seems so much more positive and engaged than 99% of the coaches out there, and I really like it. I feel like a lot of players could benefit from a coach like that.I like the energy of Struff's coach! Kind of like the opposite of the player himself but they seem to be a good combination!
Tsitsipas and Ruud played the max number of matches in both those events, so it makes sense they both were tired and went out early here. I expect both to be back strong in Rome and/or RG.Mc and Barcelona finalists are gone.
This is new day on clay.
New madrid champion guaranteed.
Between Sinner FAA sick Medvedev Lehecka Rublev Fritz and Cerundolo
All of them have never reached RG semis. All are very very novice.
Sinner 1 QF
Medvedev 1 QF
FAA 1 QF
Rublev 2 QF
No one else have ever made QF at RG. Now will be masters champion.
He left the kitzbuel and gstaad like tournamnets for princes of clay like Ferrer and Thiem. Not madrid or rome though. You would expect a much more unpredictable tournament on clay. The fact is that we lived in a era with Rafa Nadal volturing every possible tournament for like 17 years
Medvedev hasn't won Madrid yet, so his chances are great.New madrid champion guaranteed.

Yeah Sinner had a basically negligible Clay season last year outside of Monte CarloSo if Medvedev beats Lehecka tomorrow, he'll bump Alcaraz down to number 4 in the world.
If Sinner wins the whole thing, he'll be just 330 points behind Djokovic. Could snag the world number one in Rome with a good run and would be very well set up to be top dog after Roland Garros – even if Novak defends his title, Sinner has plenty of room to improve upon his second round loss last year.
Now he has dropped a lot of invincibility. He is injured already and we are in May.Sinner has withdrawn
Expected after yesterday. Probably the right decision but incredibly disappointing. The title is now Medvedev’s to lose…Sinner has withdrawn
Wow, Medvedev better take that title now.Sinner has withdrawn

Indeed, they are squeezed to the very limits starting at an incredibly early age. Hence a new school of thought is emerging that would prohibit poly strings until adulthood, and recommends orange/green balls until 13 or 14...These new GEN players are alwajs injured, could it be that the game is played at a much faster pace, intensity and powerful baseline shots?
True. It’s not surprising. But a win here makes it all but a certainty that he’ll be number one in June.Yeah Sinner had a basically negligible Clay season last year outside of Monte Carlo
Was always a given that short of unforeseeable catastrophes, he'd pick a lot of ground in relation to the others
Not unlikely that he will retire after getting the job done. He is decisive sort of fellow, reminds me of Paris. Winning less points than Kotov in the long rallies, especially through unforced errors is sadly telling and more so are his words during and after the match.
Still I hope to be wrong.
Well, it IS the worst of the masters (alongside Shanghai). Zero history and tradition, zero identity, zero vibe, and some of the ugliest facilities in the sport. Only redeeming quality are the three roofs and the hot ballgirls.Major blow to the tournament.
Djokovic dnp
Nadal Alcaraz Sinner Tsitsipas Ruud Zverev all out.
We have Rublev Fritz and Medvedev in the draw. Most underwhelming masters of this year perhaps.
Now that Madrid and Rome are combined and back to back, it makes sense that Sinner would take precaution and gear up for Rome, his "home" Masters. If there was a week or two in between, maybe he attempts to at least start another round, knowing he has that time off coming.Well, it IS the worst of the masters (alongside Shanghai). Even little Monte Carlo is in a different league in terms of aura and prestige.
More to the point, it was always gonna be an afterthought for the top guys in a season like this one. But the way things are going, it may become an afterthought even in non-Olympic years, as players are getting more and more judicious with their scheduling.
Fritz deserves to win this event since he played against Cerundolo with an absolutely empty stadium. For a QF of a Masters, that's pretty bad. There were about 25 people total in the stands:Fritz randomly wins a clay masters?
