Early in the 1st set Med was at 10 UEs, versus 1 for Korda. That helped a lot, and Korda kept returning incredibly well. Somehow he lost his focus in the 2nd set and fell apart in the breaker. The ultimate urge to win this match (or any match) - perhaps that´s missing in Korda´s approach to tennis.
Story of Korda's life. Why, oh, why do I root for the guys who have trouble between the ears? Love Sebi's game. Don't love the walkabouts he goes on in soooo many matches. Still, I spent all those years rooting for Kohli...

3 hr mark

Very encouraging sign of Nadal's fitness. He has won 8 of the last 9 service pts. And looking very dominant in the third.

He is very cautious about not hitting second serve and still has won respectable number of first serve pts. Now breaking one more time would be ultimate thing.

So Nadal beats DeMinaur, the fastest runner in the world...
And now he loses an absolutely grueling marathon 2nd Set, but wins the 3rd STUNNINGLY.
Good luck proving to people you aren't fit enough to play Roland Garros :-D

So Nadal broke Cachin total of 9 times out of 15 games. 60% of the time broken.

Nadal possibly could have won this in under 2 if his serve was better. But in the end his ground game came to his defense.

Not a pretty win by any means, but he lives to play another day. At this point in the CC season it’s all about staying healthy, getting more match reps in to build up stamina/rhythm, and gaining confidence. This match was a great opportunity taken to push his legs and lungs as well as show some mental toughness after a poor 2nd set.

Rafa lives to fight another day. Lehecka won't be easy. Especially if this version of Nadal shows up.

Pedro Cachin is very good, he was ranked 48 as recently as August 2023.
