Federer's quest toward a record 7th Aus Open title and a 21st Grand Slam title will continue on Friday against young American Taylor Fritz. Scheduled not before 13:00hrs in the Rod Laver Arena (23:00 Arg/Chi, 21:00EST, 02:00 GMT).
Only match played was at Stuttgart 2016 2R where Federer won 64 57 64.

If Fritz couldn't even get a win in 2016, I don't give him much hope now. Though from what I saw of Fed against Evans, Roger's not looking so hot himself. Still should be good enough for straights, though, you'd think.

And unless they bump this match to a different court, it's 100% the day session. Rafa's playing a hometown favorite. No way does that not get the night session (plus they would want to give De Minaur more time to recover).

You must not have watched the match. Fed was playing extremely well in long patches. And VERY aggressive, which is what he needs to go forward. 46/61 at net tells you all you need to know.

I didn't see a lot, no. Parts of the first set. In the first set tiebreak, he couldn't hit through the court to save his life. Got a bit fortunate Evans botched a couple of volleys toward the end. Good to hear he was better for most of the match.

The biggest surprise isn`t that it`s a day match as it was expected Nadal vs de Minaur to be in the evening;the surprise is that it`s a 1PM start,not the last match in the day session. I can`t remember,when was the last time Federer played this early in a day at the AO.
Pretty weird and also not good for us Europeans as it makes it tough to watch this match.
