Novak is BY FAR the favorite for Roland Garros IMO.

He is playing his best.
And in the wet damp conditions - he is unbeatable.

I think he could beat BOTH Thiem and Nadal back to back if that is what it took to win his 2nd French Open.

#18 is coming soon. And he wouldn't need more slams to be called the GOAT.
A 2nd French Open would be something that Federer NEVER did and will do.
No, no, and no.

Didn't you say that prior to the US Open?

Good luck with a 2nd French. It was hard enough for Novak to win it the first time back in '16...

I think demoting the tournament in 2009 really hurts him here. That clay suited him pretty well and he ended up winning 2009 Madrid (which replaced Hamburg).
The Hamburg clay really suited attacking players, and was Roger's most successful clay tournament by far. He could have won it in 2013 if the back didn't flare up badly.
Djokovic has this now....
Oh, s. I always forget that 5th London title, that match really didn't happened, did ya? Did ya?!

How will chatrier be damp or wet this year? Indoor waterfall under the roof? Or do you mean it will be cooler or more humid?

Yes. The temperature is going to be 10 degrees cooler than June when the French Open is usually held A lot of matches will go during evening time under the lights and the roof.

We already see that Nadal's balls are NOT exploding off the surface at all. And his spin is BLUNTED with the conditions.

The only way Novak can be stopped in a prime Nadal on clay. And this is not happening this year. So IMO - Novak is the SOLID favorite for RG.

Everything you're saying could be true, but "wetter/damper" is a strange way to characterize the conditions under a roofed court lol

And "the only way Novak can be stopped in a prime Nadal on clay" is obviously wrong, but it should be a great tournament nonetheless

Thiem beat him last year. Djokovic hasn't been to an RG final in years.

Wow! This win was big for Djoker. He now holds the record for the most Masters titles. In additions, this gives him valuable points to pad his lead for #1. Djoker is looking more and more like a lock for most weeks at #1, which is huge IMHO.

I hope that Federer has one more miracle in his bag of tricks. He's going to need it. He's going to need a run at the AO or Wimbledon that makes Connors' famous 1991 run look like kids' play.

Congrats to Djoker for a job well done. I have to give credit where credit is due. Wow! This Djokovic fellow is a machine.

Once again I am reminded why I love this surface. No easy points. Especially when we get a match up like this. Pleased with the tournament altogether, and it was so nice to see at least some crowd at last.

Novak proves again that he is class above the rest. Congratulations to him setting a new record in the Masters category, as well as passing Sampras' tally of weeks at number 1 earlier today.

Who else will beat Novak on clay? Only Nadal (at his best) can IMO.

People will keep overrating Thiem here. But it took 5 sets for Thiem to beat Novak in crazy conditions last year over which don't suit Novak's game at all.
He thrives in cooler indoor like conditions.

Dude played a 3+ hour match last night against Shapovalov that went past 1 AM local time. Of course, he comes into this one tired af.

After 1 a.m.??? Wow, that's a little over the top. By the time Diego got back to his room, showered, got in bed, etc. it must have been 3 a.m. , whereas Joker just played a nice early-afternoon 2-setter. I wonder how it would have turned out if they were reversed....

I actually wrote out several sentences here explaining why Thiem would be favored in such a matchup, but instead I will bless you with this:

He would have won 6-2, 6-0.

Djoko is relentless. even when he doesn't play his best, he can still win everywhere.

the only person who can stop djokovic from getting the most important records is djokovic.

Yes, he did. Get over it already. He lost an OFFICIAL match in USO this year.

No he didn't. He was disqualified.

Disqualification = the removal of a participant from a contest due to a violation of the sport's rules.

It counts as an official loss. Even Djokovic himself admitted it. Just like a retirement in the middle of a match counts as an official loss.

Of course, it counts, nobody denies that. But, by all means, Novak did not lose a match from another player yet this year.

Well, a player did NOT beat him. He beat himself.

And yes it is an official loss. But it's like retiring from a match or playing injured. You don't get beaten by anyone.

And who do you think will beat Novak now? You have seen how Nadal is playing on clay, so Djokovic looks likely to get the French Open as well.

This guy Djokovic is just too good on all surfaces. This is boring.

There is no competition at all.

The next gen is a joke. I almost cried watching the UsOpen final. Novak basically just beat himself otherwise he would have triple bagelled those jokers.

Djokovic was already a lock for 3 slams, but now watching Nadal on clay, it seems that French Open might also be a foregone conclusion for Djokovic.

That is why I said "MIGHT"
It depends on what kind of Nadal shows up. But based on current evidence Djokovic is playing better and should be able to beat everyone including Nadal. (unless the Spaniard plays his A game)

Novak has played absolute nobodies for the Rome title. Don't kid yourself, if he is up against Thiem at RG, the result wont be very different from last year. I would say even an in-form Zverev would be quite a threat for Novak on clay. Lol @ hyping his victory against a tired Schwartzman. He might not have it this easy at RG.
