Nadal showed why he is a greater competitor than Fed
  1. Played a brutal match in miserable conditions that were nearly identical to feds. He beasted for almost 5 hours and didn't say he was just glad to be off the court when it was over. And not only that he praised Thiem instead of making excuses for why it was so hard and went so long like Fed does.

    Long live the King!!!

Thank you. Sometimes people get ridiculous.
Nadal had many long matches and now is completely worn out. And his knee is worn out.
Obviously it is Rafa's fault that he did not finish his matches quicker. But that doesn't change the fact that he is hindered now.

I would say retire than do some permanent damage.

Fair enough.

But people were claiming this injury when the strapping appeared earlier in the tournament. Why didn’t he listen to his body then? Shouldn’t even be in this position.

The truth is that Nadal isn't retiring until he goes down 2 sets at least. I believe he's hurting, but he only retires from matches when he realizes the other guy won't choke it away.

Give it a rest. He already told the umpire he's going to retire. He's going on right now for the crowd and respect to his opponent to at least give them 2 sets of play.

Anyone care to guess which player not to have ever been ranked world number one has beaten the man in that spot on the most occasions?

It's an easy one...

Of course it's Juan Martin del Potro.

He's already achieved nine wins over the world number one. Today could be number 10.
Probably watching the US ESPN feed - discussed before the match.
