Zverev in 2 as Shaps won't be able to handle the Zverev serve game.

That being said Shaps has an even peskier lefty game than Fiasco who crushed Zed's RG dreams.

I forgot about that! Thanks for the reminder:
- right handed vs left handed

Zverev is coming off two fairly easy matches, and he is now almost a veteran.

Denis will be slow and tired tomorrow. Zverev should win easily in two because of their relative schedules this week.

But I'm rooting for Denis. I like his game style, don't much like Z's...

Hum... he's 20... what will he be at 30 then? 1 foot in the grave?
I would say that Delpo, Nadal and Mannarino were veterans. Z is a rookie by comparison.
I think you know what I meant. He's been on tour long enough so that by now we pretty much know what he is capable of, whereas with Denis it's still a big unknown.

I'm not saying he has peaked, just that he is somewhat of a known quantity. ;)

Is Shapovalov getting a direct entry in Cinci given his SF here?
There is no slot for a SE. I believe the rule is you must be in the qualies for the second tournament to receive SE. Shapo is scheduled to play the Vancouver Challenger instead. Whether he does that long slog cross country after this unexpected deep run is still TBD.

As fatigued as Shapo should be, I think he'll get a huge adrenaline rush from the home crowd one more time. Then, if he approaches this match with the intent to move Young Zedi Warrior around like he treated JMDP, he's got a shot. He's got to bump up that first serve percentage and cut down the DFs. So far it's been "lucky" sevens each match on the DFs so if he can more than halve that to say three or less while still getting that second ball action, he's good to hold at a better rate than his tournament rate of 85%. That number is pretty low and could be even worse without his clutchy ways, saving 17 BPs in just the last two matches.

On Zedi's serve, Shapo needs to stay aggressive. I'd like to see him try to shorten the rallies by hitting big on the return of second serves, a Zedi weakness when he is pinched.

It's gonna be another mountain climb but when you've beaten two slam champions to get here, playing someone that's more of a contemporary will feel more comfortable from the start. I say The Hat in three...again!

Fascinating match. This is the kind of thing tennis needs now.

It will be interesting to see how Zverev manages the hostile crowd. He usually tries to get the crowed involved on his side but that won't be the case here.

Zverev needs to be clinical and play like the veteran.

Shap continues to surprise me but don't see it today. Hope Im wrong
I didn't see it Thursday night...figuratively or literally. I'm not doubting him ever again. He has that intangible, at least in the province of Quebec. Evans and two other Challenger veterans beat him last year and Polansky last month. Otherwise, he's golden in the land of poutine. Tonight would just be more gravy on top.

Fed engaged in a bit of gamesmanship when he talked to BG after the match. Usually when he's asked, "who do you favor in the other semi?" he evades the question or gives some pithy answer like, "whoever plays better." This time he took the bait and said he thinks Zverev will win because Denis has spent too many hours on court. He also complimented Z's backhand, saying "that is an awesome shot."

Yeah. But If you follow Zverev on FB and social media you'd see that Zverev practically worships Fed. I wonder if Zverev will sign on with Fed/Godsick's new agent firm like Delpo and Dimitrov have.

Me too. But it may be a Zverev rout. Be warned.

There's a distinct possibility of that happening, but the kid still made the semis of a Masters 1000 and played some absolutely gorgeous tennis along the way. He's totally expected (and supposed) to lose to a top 10 guy, much more experienced, who just won D.C. and who's two years older.

Denis making the semis this week is the most exciting thing that's happened in tennis all summer. And yes, I include the FO and Wimbledon because Rafa and Fed's victories were sort of expected. This kid arriving was not foretold. And he's so damn fun to watch!

Gilbert:"How do you handicap that match?" Fed:"Meaning what?" Once Gilbert asked the question in non-Las Vegas English, I thought Fed was amazing how fast he could run down Denis' matches back to Dutra Silva. Either he has a great memory or he (and Ljubicic?) have been going over match tapes in preparation.

Who's jacked?

There's no lose in this tourney, from here on out. I have zero complaints about these last three survivors. And the final's gonna be a doozy.

The youthful promise of great things to come match up reminds me a bit of Nadal v Djokovic in IW and Miami in 07. We knew both those two were destined for greatness. These two may not reach their heights, but certainly have the potential to make great careers for themselves in their own right.

Bring on the future. :)

I think that Shapo has a great future, but I think he has no chance against Z.

I hope I'm wrong though. Even though Zverev seems like a great guy, I don't like watching him play that much. If Shapo can take this, I would be so happy.

I predict Zverev in 2 close sets, but if it goes to 3 sets, I think Shapo might have a chance.
