It feels like another slam championship for SW. The rest of the women left are weak, inconsistent and each time I take a peek at SW's match she is serving well.
Nobody left can hit her off the court. No Naomi, no Mugs, no Kerber. It is there for her to take.

I'd put money on Serena, and I'm rooting for her, but other players actually can beat her these days. We've seen it happen. Serena isn't invincible for any number of reasons - she gets nervier, she doesn't move as well, etc. Will be interesting to see how this all plays out. My wish is for Serena to win a post-baby Slam. The sooner the better, as the chances to do so aren't just going to be automatic for the rest of her career.

The players left are rubbish on grass. I mean freaking Halep who blows on grass is her likely final opponent. Serena wont lose now unless she injures herself in a match, and cant finish.

Kerber is a WAY better grass player than anyone left. Serena would have to play an even worse final than last years vs Kerber (unlikely to even play as bad) to ever lose now.

Kerber is weird. To lose in the second round is pathetic. She has had so and so grass results. You wanna see consistency.

I wouldn’t count my chickens yet. She lost to Kerber last year. In two sets on grass and i know Kerber is decent on grass but i feel serena’s not 100 percent in shape going back to last year.

Halep Strycova and Svitolina are the exact type of players that can give Serena trouble.

Konta imploded. There's nothing more to be said.

But seeing Strycova so happy is heartwarming. The woman has a beautiful game, that translates really well to grass, and a colourful personality. Congrats to her.

That was absolutely pathetic from Konta today. I think we can probably close the door on the notion she could sneak a slam somewhere. If you can't even beat Strycova you might as well not bother. How many errors in the second set there? Utterly woeful.

If Serena can't win this slam with the easy draw in the history of Wimbledon, she will never break Courts record. Hope Strycova pulls another upset.

Again, I think Serena can win, but I'd never just hand her a trophy, even with a relatively opened-up draw, as I might have in the past. She gets more nervous on bigger occasions, her movement isn't as good, so people (especially someone like Halep) can get her on the move and out of position. And, sometimes when people are bashing against her, she feels the need to show she can bash too and she makes errors. That said, she can certainly win. She needs to serve well, and not be reckless when she's out of position - realize she needs to play a percentage defensive shot, not turn defense into offense right away.

I think it's also based on how well Serena is serving. If she can add in tons of aces and keep her first serve percentage up, she can have smooth sailing because the other ladies just don't have an awesome serve that's unbreakable. That's the thing when you manage to break Serena's serve but then have to fend off having your own serve broken.

We saw her lose Wimbledon and the us open last year. It’s not written in stone yet. Still think she’s not in the best of shape.

I swear 50 percent of you are nuts. You guys think Serena just walks on court and wins when the women has lost to all kinds of players the last 5 years.

Not a chance. Strycoca will go into that irritating 'just happy to be here' mode where the underdog is grinning and having a great time even at 3-6 2-5 down as she earns the kudos of the crowd for winning a clever 20 shot rally right at the death, doing the sort of things she couldn't execute to save her life when the score was 0-0.

It is not so much confidence in Serena as all the other women left are garbage on grass. None left but Serena is capable of winning Wimbledon. Seriously talking about losing to Kerber last year is pointless when in form Kerber would smoke those other 3 on grass easily.

The people who think Halep and Svitolina are capable of winning Wimbledon on GRASS are the real crazies, not those of who arent stupid.

It's amazing the negativity a few pages back towards Serena, a 37-year-old hobbled much of this year with a chronic knee injury but who is fighting her way through the draw while her younger peers have fallen. She should be applauded, not denigrated. A younger Serena would be lapping this field up tournament after tournament. She may not be what she used to be, but she's still good enough.

If she wins it will be based on first serve and second serve return. Strycova served pretty well there she also found ways of getting Konta's back in awkward areas. If she does that again she can win. I expect Halep to come through, if she gets her head on she should take the tournament.

First of all the grass aint the same. Second of all these ladies in the semis beat good grass players. I don't think most people who comment on the womens game actually watch the freaking game.

Don't go overboard she has certain advantages.

This made me laugh, because it's such a spot-on description of something you see if you watch a lot of tennis. I'm not predicting that it defintely will happen to Strycova, but I've certainly seen it before. The underdog might be fully engaged and serious about winning early on, but as soon as they fall behind, it becomes what you describe.

So @Aussie Darcy , why can’t Riske play anywhere near this level on hard court or clay?

The other day I said Riske is like the American Lisicki--she lives for only one major, and does not really dedicate herself to the others as much. You cannot make a career on only wanting to win a particular major, but that really seems to be her mindset about the sport. Further, Riske is not the best mover on tour, so that will be another advantage for opponents, only she (Riske) does not have the serve, or down the line accuracy of another weak mover such as a Davenport, who had the aforementioned skills to make up for her lack of mobility, and took that to majors success.

Do you people who proclaim Serena champion prior to actually playing matches even play sports at all?

it's just normal forum discussion and rantings. Plenty of people who predict/proclaim winners "play sports." Nothing said here can affect who actually wins. Don't take it so seriously.

It's interesting how much of tennis is about match-ups, particularly in the women's game.

Strycova's game got into Konta's head and she deservedly won, but Konta would have still had a better chance of beating Serena in the SF in my opinion.

Not too dissimilar to the French Open - I'm convinced Konta would have given Barty a better match in the final than Vondrousova, but like here she struggled against the slower-pace.

I guess that's Konta's weakness; she's never had an "all-round game", she's a fast, rhythmical player with a few specialist shots. On her day she can blow any player off the court, but can get tangled up pretty easily too.

Kerber won a Wimbledon title, so she has excellent "grass results." She did what the sport demanded of her, unlike others who merely build up grass court time and fail to win the Wimbledon title.

Speak English please. :-D

And Halep and Svitolina had the epitome of cupcake draws thanks the upsets. Only Strycova has beaten anyone good, and mostly just someone who played like rubbish.

Halep is playing well I think the Azarenka game was a big confidence boost. I can't see her not coming through the semi. She has the potential to do to Williams exactly what Kerber did.
