The H2H is deceptive. These conditions suit Fritz and he's really improved this season.

I see a tight match, Novak can't afford to lose focus

It is deceptive.

However, look at their Paris Indoor encounter where Djokovic handled him with ease.

I expect a somewhat tighter scoreline but the outcome will remain the same.

Djokovic will crush Fritz in two easy sets. Unlike Nadal, Djokovic will not struggle with Fritz’s serve at all because he has the best return of serve.

Their Paris match was so weird last year. So many breaks in the 1st set, if I remember well. I think Djokovic lost his serve 3 times and broke Fritz 5 times in this match.

The surface is way fasteer in Italy, though. Fritz only lost his serve ONCE in 3 matches (the 1st game of the match against Ruud).

Djokovic is favorite (I think he'll win 7-6 6-3 or something similar), but Fritz winning 7-6 7-6 isn't far-fetched. Even the best returner in the galaxy can't do anything on such fast courts, if Fritz has more than 75% of 1set serves...

Really? He was two sets ahead Djokovic at AO21.
I missed most of those matches as they were played at 3am here. I remember the only story going around was Djokovic's phantom 3" ab tear as opposed to the actual match. I don't remember much being made about Fritz's efforts. Just that Djokovic apparently came back from the dead to win it. :-D

no, he wasn't. Djokovic was up 2 sets to love. got hampered. so Fritz was able to take the next 2. But couldn't even finish the job in the 5th set.
True, my memory failed in this case, it was 2-0 2-2 3-2 scenario, not 0-2 3-2.

Think it’s gonna be tight and Fritz might slip a set win but eventually Djoker rules. Djoker v Ruud final gonna be interesting as I expected Djoko to demolish Rune but Rune won, so why not Ruud too?

Anything can happen. If he wins this match, I can't see Tsitsipas or Rudd hurting Nole in final
I remember that in 2017 everyone favored Federer, especially after winning his three matches and that his potential rivals for the title were supposedly easy.
But they forget about the age factor and that having to play (and win) on consecutive days at that age is not easy.
Fritz, like Goffin five years ago, has a great opportunity to topple the favourite.
He doesn't have much to lose and much to gain.

If it’s 2 sets it’s Djokovic. If it’s 3 sets it’s fritz. Don’t think Djokovic can play 2 back to back 3 hr matches at this age.

he un-necessarily spent 3 hrs on a dead rubber against Medvedev. He should have just moved on. Whatever happened in Paris is bound to happen again.

Djokovic in 2 lol, **** Fritz. I absolutely do not rate him. Only way he gets through is if Djoker is at 20% or less

Djokovic in a soul-snatching tight one. Fritz to dominate for extended periods.
It’s about time, as well as Murphy’s law, that Djokovic start experiencing some soul snatching. I can see Fritz doing it here, and going all the way as well.

Depends on Novak recovering from todays exertions, recent history has shown both he and Rafa are much more vulnerable in best of 3 sets nowadays, also unlike Grand slams there is no recovery day in between last 3 matches for Novak so that makes a significant difference when you get to mid 30's.

If Fritz serves at his best I could see him pulling off a win via tie breakers but will go for Novak after another tough battle

I’m not to confident about this. I fear the meddy match might have jaded Novak a bit. I feel this will be close but think Fritz to win in 3. I hope I’m wrong.

I like Fritz though and he has a good game and he’s improved a lot. I hope Novak can recover but it will be difficult after the long meddy match.

It's truly decepty.

The Paris match is also decepty, since Taylor was ranked #26, and Novak #1

Now after a great improvement, Taylor is #9, Novak #8

But the most significant part of the Paris match is, that Djokovic got a WO (Monfils), whereas Fritz did play the day before Norrie, against whom he
had a negative H2H.

I don't know who's gonna win, but Taylor has the chance of his life against a Djokovic that will be running on fumes.

Djokovic has been playing such that it’s left me absolutely flabbergasted. At the same time, I’ve been quite impressed with Fritz this week. I can’t wait for an exciting match, I hope it’s a thriller!

I believe it will depend on how Novak serves - easy service games could help him zero in on the return and … you know the story
