For the third consecutive year, we have the finals match-up between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal at the French Open.

Can Federer finally solve Nadal to finish his career slam, or will Nadal continue being undefeated on the red clay of Roland Garros?

Discuss.

Of everyone on tour Fed is the only person that CAN do it. I think it will take a small act from God for him to pull it off though. My guess is Nadal in 4.

I would love to see Fed win the FO but Nadal just seems too strong. All we can hope for IMO is an entertaining final - I'm going for Nadal in 4.

I would have to agree. I would absolutely LOVE for Federer to win this to complete his career slam (time is not on his side!), but Nadal just seems impossible to beat in these conditions. Let's all pray for the small act of God. :D

Nadal in 4 seems to be the popular choice. I guess people will give Federer a LITTLE credit to at least take a set off Nadal, but not enough to have him win three sets. :p

Nadal in 4, like all others have echoed. And that is assuming Fed can play lights out tennis. Otherwise, it could even be 3 straight, tight sets for Nadal.

I wish the poll had options that were a little bit more refined...

Whatever the case, this poll will be for the early birds only. It closes in 24 hours time, so before the match starts. That way, we don't end up with people submitting votes AFTER the match has started or even completed. :p

I'm a big Federer fan, and hope he can pull it off, but I voted Nadal in 4. That's been the pattern in their finals, and Nadal's certainly the prohibitive favorite. Federer's dozing off throughout the tournament doesn't help his cause.

But I'm glad he got there, yet again.

And stranger things have happened...Federer losing to Roddick, even to Djokovic at the AO. The NY Giants beating the perfect Patriots in the Superbowl.

If Federer wins the finals, Nadal_Freak should have to write out "He's the greatest" 100 times. lol.

If Nadal wins the finals, quite impressive; 4 in a row. If he wins in straights, good argument he's more talented than Borg on clay.

Maybe Federer should wear a sleeveless shirt and capri shorts, which will make Nadal crack up so bad that he won't be able to focus on winning the match.

Agreed. Nadal is an animal right now. Hard to picture him losing this one. But let's hope for a fun match to watch.

Nadal in 3 tights sets preferably if not then in 4. Fed doesnt have it, his mental game will come undone on clay.

I'm going with Nadal in a tough 5 setter. This is one time I hope I'm wrong, but this is just not the year Roger can win the French. I think he'll get it one day, but not in 08. 2009 seems like a good possibility though because he'll have the mono out of his system and he'll be more energized being the all time slams leader by then.

Atleast if Federer finishes his cerrier having never won the French, he can only blame himself, hes had 3 tries so far.

Judging on the performances of the two semi-finals, Nadal is gonna thrash Federer in straight sets, something like 64 63 64.

As others have pointed out, that's hardly an indicator. Federer played horribly in last year's SF, yet took a set off of Nadal.

In any event, the pressure of history is really on Nadal now, to match Borg's 4 FO in a row. The pressure is really on Nadal here.

The pressure is much more on Fed to achieve the career GS. Are you kidding me? Nadal has many more years to win RG, how many more chances will Fed have?

Nadal is the prohibitive favorite, and he's trying to match Borg's record of consecutive FO final wins. The pressure is on him.

Federer will I think have several more chances to win RG, and may have chances after Nadal retires or is no longer a factor.

Hey all, I created the other thread exactly at the same time this one was started, so I did not know about this one until later.

If the mods can merge the two threads somehow that would be great. It would have been easy if one or the other had just a few posts in it so one could be deleted.

Sorry for my part in the mixup.

Yes because it is so logical to think Nadal will retire or cease being a factor before Roger. Nadal is only 5 years younger and all.

Nadal in 4 sets.No way that Fed will lose in straight sets.I wished that Fed proved me wrong but he always has the same gameplan with Nadal on clay.He stays way behind the baseline.Thats not the way to go.

Nadal is playing the best tennis of his carrer so far. He improved his service, he is better in his slice backhand and he fights every point as noone else does. There is no way he'll lose the final...
I gave Federer a set, but I'm not sure he'll manage to win it .....

This has been gone over again and again. Despite Nadal's age, he has had far more injuries than Federer (who's had practically none). I'm not hoping the guy's career is short, but it's just an inevitability the way things are going. Claycourters who play a grinding style, especially when they start out young, burn out early, like Borg.

Even if you are right Borg burnt out at 25. By the time Nadal is 25 then Federer will be 30. Are you really so confident Roger will be a major factor at 31, 32, 33?

Alot of the armchair experts have their "theories" on Nadal and he continues to prove them all wrong.

this is peace of cake, Nadal in 3.
When Joker lost in straights and he was better competitor in Hamburg than Fedex, then what should we need to expect from a poor Fedex?
I lost my nerves watching him today against Monfils, can't believe he struggled so much :)

If Federer plays like he did to-day he'll lose in 1 1/2 hours. if he plays a bit better, he'll lose in 2 hours. Straight sets Nadal

The commentators (Stolle and can't remember who) remarked how Nadal had improved various aspects of his game (bh for one) since last year. Always working on his game.

Nope, actually he's proven my theories right. I've been saying right along that he's going to have problems, and he has...every single year. After Wimbledon, there's just too much cumulative stress on his body, and he breaks down. And it isn't something that gets wiped out one year; it's going to accumulate. You Nadal fans can think his poor management team.

Let's hope this is going to be a great and memorable match. IMHO, Federer should have no pressure. It is Nadal's RG record at stake here. :)

I disagree, this could be Fed´s last real shot at winning the career slam and being officially considered the GOAT
