Nico Almagro to beat them both on his path to the final.

You have a better chance of hooking up with this chick in the stands than getting that Almagro prediction right.

I can't remember where they are in the draw- I'm also too lazy to check- but it would it nice if Roddick could win this and take out Nadal and Murray. It's a long shot, but it would give him a nice boost of confidence and maybe deepen the field at the slams.

Weird to see Fed,Djoko,Davy not around at the quarterfinal stage of a Masters, barring Paris aside. I guess I've been taking Fed's wins for granted.

Roddick breaks to go up 3-2,or rather Melzer broke himself with a double fault...

Now Melzer leading 30-0 on Andy's serve!

And then Roddick comes up with an ace 30-15

Backhand error from Melzer,30-30

YouJaySoup

Semi-Pro
Lol nice response from Roddick, comes up with another huge serve to get ahead 40-30

and another ace to seal the game,Roddick leads 4-2.

OK I hold my hands up Melzer is way weaker mentally than i thought. Error after error after error, always at the worst times too

We should be in for a Roddick-Nadal final now. If that final happens on this slow court I cant see Roddick winning or even coming that close. On a faster court he might have had a shot.

Not so fast yet,deuce

ad Melzer

back to deuce,Melzer still in shank mode

ad Melzer,with another huge serve

game Melzer, with another huge serve. Forcing Andy to serve it out

I pray for a Roddick-Nadal final pls

Actually I forgot about Murray. Not sure Roddick can beat him if they play in the semis. So perhaps more likely a Murray-Nadal final.

Murray hasn't look that strong all tournament long. We'll have to see his match with Almagro to gauge Roddick's chances.

Roddick does have the last win, though, and a pretty painful one at that, too.

I really dislike Almagro, but this may be the only time when I want him to win

Havent see Roddick play against Nadal before..within the top 7 we've had Fed-Djoko,Djoko-Nadal,Nadal-Fed,Nadal-Murray,Murray-Fed,Murray-Delpo,Delpo-Roddick,Delpo-Fed,Delpo-Davy,Davy-Fed etc but no Roddick-Nadal so far

Yeah but that was on grass. Roddick beating Murray on grass doesnt surprise me much, maybe it surprised some. On hard courts Murray should be the clear favorite, especialy an obviously slow hard court like this one.

They played in the semis in IW last year. And many other times before that... like Dubai in 07 (?) and Queens in 08.

Murray holds to lead 1-0,was not an easy service hold though

As much as I dislike Almagro, his one-handed backhand is really sweet and powerful with accuracy and he isn't afraid to go for broke on his shots, plays very aggressively

Almagro gets to 1-1

Murray then double faults

YouJaySoup

what a SICK game,Murray displays his athleticism and great defense...I couldn't imagine he getting back that potential winner of a shot...but Almagro seals it with a great forehand winner down the line

and then Murray commits a 2nd DF

2 BPs for Almagro now

Almagro BREAKS!! He leads 2-1 now

Underdogs like him have to consolidate breaks early and establish their authorities right at the start.....now its up to whether Almagro can keep up his level of play and force Murray out of his comfort zone or not. Now Murray's just getting balls back into play yet not doing anything threatening

Great passing shot from Murray, now he gets to 40-0 on Almagro's serve. Breaking back immediately?

Murray breaks to love. Lol. Back on serve 2 all.

were you watching ttc? how much of the M/A match did they show? :)

what a horrible day of results...
("bad... very bad")
marcos loses in a disgusting way, wasting too many opportunities (and fooled by the robrevirus), tps and muzette won their matches, djokovic (one of the best antidotes against the nadal plague) loses to egghead, etc. :(
add to this that richie lost in the 1st round of a challenger (sunrise) against...... simon  ... and the nightmare is complete.
icon13.gif

now the only way to repair the damage is that berdych kicks nadal out of the tournament today.
c'mon berdych, do me this favor, please !

Seriously, Baghy follows his epic win against Fed by a loss to Robredo?? This is a crime, Marcos!

Robredo is a better player than Baghdatis. Look at not only their current rankings but everything they have done in the last 3 years. Baghdatis in 2006 had that one big tournament Robredo probably will never have, and both were in the top 10 together that year (Robredo higher ranked even that year) but injuries have regressed Baghdatis to the point that he is no longer in the same league as even a solid but unspectacular player like Robredo. Baghdatis is probably more talented but Robredo has had his career relatively uninterupted by injuries allowing him to maximize his potential in a way Baghdatis has not been able to.

Baghdatis's win over Federer was a huge win for him and a terrific achievement at this point in his career. Do keep in mind though it took Federer playing an awful match, Baghdatis playing as well as he possibly could have within his current abilities, and Federer still badly choking at the end to lose it. So that he would lose to even someone like Robredo next round was pretty much expected.

Trivia:

Nadal's second big win* was against Roddick, world no. 2, in the 2004 Davis Cup final.

Back then, it was an upset. Today, in hindsight, what's surprising is that Roddick managed to win a set against Nadal on clay :p

(That wasn't their first meeting; Roddick had bageled Nadal in USO earlier in that year)

* First big win was against Fed in 3R Miami '04.

You may be right, I was only comparing the quality of his opponents Fed vs. Robredo. It was a bit tongue-in-cheek.

I didn't watch either match, but what I've read is that Fed was playing well, except maybe at the tail end of the match. Moreover, judging from his most recent results, it seems Baghdatis is finding some form back.
