Big fan of Cornet! She is very hungry to boost her rankings so she doe not have to go through qualifying! I don't blame her for that! Currently ranked 59! She needs to go to like 45 to get in any MD tournament she want to play in!Cornet over Mertens in straights.
That would be a smart thing to do.Ash Barty is having a blast out there. For those who doesn't like her: Boo hoo!
I wonder if players like Ash attend smaller event (Still WTA 500) to just enjoy competing with less stress.
Nice. I'd really like to see her back at the top. A motivated Sloane is a sight to behold. Side note, I can't believe she's 28 already!!Sloane through without getting broken.
Did anything visible happen?Anisimova is just giving a shellacking to Shelby but now might be injured.
* ...for nowOnly seeds left:
#13 Anisimova*
#15 Kudermetova
Did anything visible happen?
Yeah, not sure if she'll play on having lost the second. It seems to be a groin injury, but it seems to have at least changed the momentum and now Rogers is up 6-5 in the 2nd set.
Wide World Of Sports slogan: “...The agony of defeat!”Why is Amanda crying ???
Anisimova gives Kenin and Putinseva a run for their money in the “easiest to root against”department.
Gauff got lucky to be able to turn the last few games in the 3rd set around and got the win over Samsonova!
didn't realize she was like this until last night. Receiving a point a penalty for not going to the bathroom was classic. in addition, her comment to Shelby after the second set.
What was her comment after the second set?
I turned it on in the 3rd, my god what a mess. I heard after the match Shelby said, "hope you feel better" which was nice of her. Shelby has lost a TON of weight and it's made a big difference in her game.
Samsonova was ahead 4-1 or even 4-0! Maybe I was dream but that what I recall!Didn’t see it. Why lucky? Coco is the superior player
Hopefully Muguruza's injury problems aren't too serious, and she's fine for Madrid in a couple of weeks.
What happened to her this time?
In terms of players retiring when holding a clear lead, other examples that sprung to mind were Groenefeld when leading Sharapova 6-1 4-2 in Moscow in 2005, and Wozniacki when leading Kremer 7-5 5-0 in Luxembourg in 2009.
Wozniacki retired as she wouldn’t have been able to play her next round match, so she allowed Kramer to take her place instead and wanted to recover in time for her first ever YEC appearance. The fact that her father told her to play another couple of games and then retire during a changeover, didn’t go unnoticed and led to a WTA investigation.
