Nice job Fed. Glad I was wrong. Berdych match is 50-50 IMO, but it would be nice to see Fed reverse the trend a bit and beat Berdych. It'll be important for future Fed-Berdych matches as far as who has the mental edge. Right now though, just wicked happy that Federer beat Novak, and proved my pick wrong. Not that I didn't believe, I just thought Novak would win.

Federer is good at absorbing the pace against Nole. Berdych is a flat hitter and generate pace and I think Fed can use that to his advantage particularly on the bh. He takes the ball early and redirect back. I also see Berdych's passing ability will be tested since Fed is playing more attacking tennis.

What an amazing performance from Rodge. Never thought I'd ever see him playing like that again.

Master! :)

(no probs Djok, you'll probably get him next time... )

Great tennis as always, don't think anyone can deny this is the best match up in tennis currently.

Fed rolled back the years, all those who said he would never beat Nole again have been proven wrong. Tennis fans are so lucky to have Fed, watching him today was incredible.

Tomorrow is a tough match and for the first time this week I think Fed will lose.

Federer can't hang with Djokodal anymore, it's sad. This is Drago vs. Apollo.

As shown today he can more than hang with Nole, Fed might just have his own Rocky story.

I hope Fed wins tomorrow and gets his 2012 form back. Speaking of back I hope it doesn't bug him this season. It would be nice to see healthy Fed compete all season.

Couldn't catch the match. Just saw the HotShot from Fed on the ATP site. What a volley. Just wow!
Fed looking lethal!!

Any link for the highlights? :)

I have to say reading some of the Nadal fans' comments in this thread, and I'm not gonna mention any names, make me roll my eyes. They get riled very easily[and perhaps understandably] when opposing fans write snide things about him but I've seen similar posts in this thread about Djokovic! Double standards eh, gotta love em'.

LOL thats the truth:) Hey what went wrong for Joker today I didnt watch. Was Fed just playing out of his mind or did Joker blow it?

Fed played above average compared to how he normally plays these days, but Novak wasn't that great, particularly on the big points, and Federer played well on those. Few if any stupid errors. And the few big points that Federer didn't play well, Djokovic didn't capitalize. Truthfully, Federer was a clipped net away from going down a set and a break, and that could've been curtains, but that's the nature of these matches.

Hmm well thats different. Usually its the other way around. There is a fine line in this game thats for sure:)

Federer was just the better player overall, his movement in particular was as good as anything I've seen from him and a vast improvement on 2013. Djokovic started off great but his level did come down a bit after the 1st set and Fed was just hitting the ball superbly and serving really well.

The good thing about this result is that my expectations for Nole are now at an all time low so any good results he produces for the rest of the season will be a bonus for me. 2011 seems like a LONG time ago. :(

Yeah, it is pretty funny, but that's what these match threads are. :)

Eh. I dont know. Lets see in Indian Wells and Miami. Thats where the rubber hits the road.

Federer was moving really well and Djokovic wasn't playing great. I din't see much passion to win from Djoko.

...

It's just Dubai.

No offence, but it's a 500.

Seen some big overreactions based on this one match result which is hardly a surprising match result anyway, even if it was the less favoured result overall.

The giant pile of manure hits the wind turbine farm at the 1000's where finally once again we will see every top player enter, including Nadal, Wowrinka, Murray, Djokovic, Federer, etc.

I agree. Truthfully, the masters are not even that important compared to if this was a slam win. I think it might actually tell us more bad about Djokovic than good about Federer.

Great just what tennis needs is more FEDAL. :-?

Looks like it might turn out to be another tepid fanboy year of tennis. Only bright spot is Stan and even that is a question mark.

Berdych just won a title. Federer hasn't won one since Halle last year.

Since Halle last year, Djokovic and Nadal have won many titles -- it's been the Djokodal show.

Do you lack that much compassion? :)

This is the way I see it as well. It will be very interesting to see how Djokovic performs over the next few months.

I think he's lost focus...too many distractions (wedding, non-profit, whatever else). Sad to see. That said, Fed looks like he drank from the Fountain of Youth.

O my god!!!!! I watch the first set, then I think: "Okay Federer is playing decently but he just can't do it anymore" Then I fall asleep (pulled an all-nighter the night before), I wake up and Federer won!?!?! 6-3 6-2? How??? I need to rewatch this match asap

HEHE. It was a glorious match
The great man will win #18 if he plays at this level. No question.

Novak was off the boil a bit after the first set, whereas Federer's level maintained (if not got betterer) throughout the match. Some amazing rallies and clutch play/serve from Fed today.

I usually lose all compassion when Dad whips his son with a belt and then goes and gets red ball in mouth Gimped by Nadal. :)
Ok Berdych is playing some nice ball. He looked good at the AO.

ok I will settle down now.....:|

They showed a stat in 3rd that pretty much summed it up. Feds hit point: behind the basline/on or inside the baseline. 1st set 80%/20%, 2nd and 3rd set 60%/40%

Jeesh.. Djoker looks more out of sorts and washed up than a 32 year old Fed. Good lord. Didn't think I would see Nole's level hit the crapper as much as it has since early 2012
