Exactly. I've been watching Tennis for 32 years (and highlights of older matches).
Other than Sampras, I've never seen a player vary his level and still be able to raise his game and WIN so much.
In my book - Novak and Pete are the strongest player mentally of all time.
Easily the worst high profile match of the tournament.
Djokovic is simply in his own league. A decade ago I thought Rafa was the warrior one but apparently only externally.
I came home earlier from work just to see this game. I've waited for this so I'm really disappointed.

I might be wrong but I do believe that the best Novak's game was indeed the semi-final RG against Nadal. He really played brilliantly. I haven't seen such a level from him since. Which is a pity. Of course it sucked for Rafa. He played way better than now Zverev and Sinner.
Btw, it seems like Zverev's mental game got worse as did his footwork. Way to go. Waste a few breaks.
Exactly. Novak was amazing in the RG SF.
And yeah Zverev is not of the same cloth mentally. He will NEVER be a GREAT player. At the top level, tennis is more about the mental strength than just about talent and skills.

Not really surprising. Sinner isn't ready to play on fast courts at this point. It is a testament to his overall game that he made it this far. I was expecting more of a beatdown, actually.

Zverev played poorly most of the set and Sinner couldn't make him pay, Zverev is hitting with more confidence now and the match should be over.

Nadal isn't too bad. He is a warrior too. But Novak has definitely surpassed Nadal as Nadal has not been able keep up physically.

I am probably guilty of overhyping Sinner along with others based on some past matches on clay, but atm he doesn't appear to do a single thing very well. Hard to differentiate him from a Bautista type player. And I'm not talking about peak Bautista.

Those were BIG CHANCES for Sinner. Made SUPPER CRAPPY forehand errors.
How do these top players miss so many forehands?

Zverev with 2nd serve at 132 MPH. This is more CRAZY than Brave. Playing the DICE - he could have had 2 Double Faults.

Sinner misses 2nd straight SITTER volley. Zed wins 2nd set. Unbelievably bad from both players.

Definitely. Swiatek or her psychologist said exactly what you said. There are plenty of players who're great at practice sessions. Good on paper. But never become champions. Mental strength differentiates champions from wannabes... Nice to see you praise Nadal I really like him but he's more of a choker now as he got older. He missed the clutch moments.

The fact that this kid is no. 13 in the world is a testament of how mentally rigid one can be and still reach a high level on the ATP tour. He has zero strategic awareness, you can tell he barely watches tennis matches and that he's just regurgitating what Piatti tells him to do during practice. He does it well, sure, but he's incapable of adapting his game to the opponent and to the moment, zero Theory of Mind. He only does so well because he has 3 options on every shot: smash ball left, smash ball right, smash ball center. This, folks shows how much you can achieve in life by only being good at one, very specific thing. For some people, it's writing bars, for others it's closing their eyes and hitting hard.
Unless he makes fundamental changes to his attitude (and perhaps also his team) it won't be long before the other players of his generation completely outpace him and the built up pressure and expectations plunge him into a career long slump.
