I’ve found time to watch the replay of the Sinner/ Paul SF. Superb stuff from JS to keep TP under control, and retain his focus to win in straights. JS strikes the ball so beautifully (comms mentioning how cleanly he hits / the sound of it). Whilst TP could not stave off the break in the 4th game, or capitalize upon his chances to break back in the 5th / ,win the point in the long rally in the 7th game to break, it was an excellent effort to break him in the 9th game. But he couldn't hold in the face of JS’ determination, losing the match. Well done to JS for getting through, and I hope he can lift the trophy tomorrow.
TP did his best, but was beaten by the better player in the match. He needed an MTO after the 3rd game – not sure if he is injured. He didn’t play as well as in the QF, and I suspect the energy required to win the QF took at least some toll on his performance in the SF. A pity he could not make more of a match of it by forcing a 3rd set, but he should be pleased to have reached this far, hopefully feeling confident for his next campaign.
