Come USO, you folks and your favorites will live in his fear. Only Djokovic and Nadal are capable of beating him there. Also every world no.1 of last 15 year not named Federer and Djokovic have had embarrassing losses in slams, Murray's 2017 , Nadal's losses in WB and so on. Atleast Medvedev has an excuse that he isn't good on Natural surfaces.
Didn’t realise this was a slam and that those guys lost finals to players outside the top 200 lmao.

This is up there with Carretero in Hamburg 1996.
The difference is Carretero was ranked 143 (a bit higher), but he also won a Super 9 (Masters 1000 equivalent), which is a lot better than a 250.
Carretero beat Kafelnikov in the semis and Corretja in the final, which I also think is more impressive than beating a so-so Medvedev in the final.
Still an amazing achievement, of course.
Is a super nine a challenger tournament? Unfamiliar with it...

Love swiatek, and I am finding WTA interesting but dude just give up, WTA just had a draw with literally not a single , NOT A SINGLE top 10 in Quarters except Swiatek.
New Number 1 loses a final to a player never ranked in the top 200 lmao. Don’t talk about the women. At least they lose to good players and have a #1 on a 30+ winning streak not Medvedev being breadsticked by #205 lol.

I wonder if this will be a confidence booster of will this be his one and only title? It can go either way with these types of out of nowhere wins...

14 of the top 16 didn't even make the 2nd week lmao
Yet the players who made the second week were all accomplished players who’d made slam QF’s before and won titles. Now tell me, who is this guy who just breadsticked the new #1? Has he had a top 10 win before this week? Been in the top 50? Top 100? Top 150? No? Yeah didn’t think so. Embarrassing.

#1 breadsticked by player never in the top 200 vs #1 woman on a 35 match winning streak. Lmao.

Keep telling yourself WTA has a stronger field , one day even you will believe it.

PS: Medvedev holds a slam in US, a Final in AO , a masters and has been injured for most of the season. He is a decent world no.1 , a freak loss on his worst surface doesn't change that.

Not entirely fair. Guy played some "lights out" tennis this week. Nice to see, actually. That's something the sport has been missing.

Swiatek has 6 titles this year, including a slam and 3+ Master and is on a 35 Match winning streak and guess what? She DIDN’T just get breadsticked in a final by someone who’s never been in the top 200. Lmao. Keep crying about the women’s tour when that’s what the men’s tour looks like.

Anyway I hope this is his breakthrough, really like his style; great single handed, very good serve, nice slice backhand. Also appears to have the right mindset; clearly in good physical shape, very cool on court, no exuberant celebrations either.
Seems to have a good head on his shoulders

Not fair? Everything I said was true. The new #1 was breadsticked by someone who’s never been top 200 before but the posters I quote slam the WTA? I’m calling the BS out. Feel free to agree.

you focus too much on rankings. Perhaps you should watch the matches vRijthoven played. He played very strong throughout the week and played like a top20 player most of the time. Plus his style is perfect for grass too

When you say tour, you do realize, a tour means like a collection of individual sports persons? Surely you aren't missing that nuance?
Let me help you here,
1. Swiatek>>>>>>>>>>>>Med as #1. But Swiatek isn't the entire WTA.
2. One freak loss doesn't cancel out 1 year worth of great performances against the top players and the best players to ever pick up the racquet

Hope I was of help! Ta!

I agree. It’s the exact same on the WTA where players play above their ranking and win yet the entire tour gets slammed by men here who attack the women’s tour. I’m just giving it back. I’m happy for the young guy from the Netherlands.

I agree that I like to see people get it right between the ears for a week and prove that there's a depth of talent - just not a depth of mental fortitude - on both tours. Not one of those who slam the WTA, though I'd like to see a few women step up against Iga soon.

One freak loss? Medvedev doesn’t have a single title this year and has multiple poor losses. But yes the tour is more than one player and the depth we see is good. I’m just sick to death of the crap I see being attacked to the WTA yet the defence of the men’s tour when embarrassments like this happen. Hope you understand.

Thanks mate, good post and I agree. Would love to see some ladies challenge Swiatek too. Very much hoping Barty cuts her retirement short.

I get where you are coming from, and I am in a way venting as well because I had thought Med will win this and win a second grass title again after Mallorca. But this was disappointing to say the least

How many players has anyone seen play this kind of all court tennis since Giller Muller but better Bh, mobility and touch? The injuries and the spamdemic with this event missing for 3 years is not easy for him to rise with 5 years of issues. Many players have suffered to find form with all the interruptions and tyrannical requirements not just for players but also their teams and so really happy for this player. Hopefully his career starts getting even better now as showing his composure vs player levels he has never experienced is worth some credit.

If you disagree with people making these kind of comments about the WTA, you shouldn’t be making them about the ATP. That would be hypocrisy.
So I should let countless men attack the women’s tour yet I can’t criticize the men’s tour? I’m pointing out the hypocrisy of it all. Y’all attack the women for their results but the men have embarrassing results like this, far worse than anything Swiatek has had but I should stay quiet?

Tim shows us how to play on grass! All court game, utilising low slices to make it difficult for the opponent to create pace, first strike tennis with approaches and volley winners!!!! Big serves with precision aiming for the lines and the Ts. His serving technique is great! Fluid motion with great racquet head speed, easy power and precision.

Remind me again what are the slam results of the WTA world number 2. I dont think a tour is defined by only their number 1s

#2 Medvedev has 8 top 10 wins in the last 12 months. Kontaveit the #2? she has 9. Beats the men lol. Also Kontaveit didn’t just lose a breadstick set 1-6 to someone outside the top 200 like Medvedev did as New #1. Lol! Cringe.

Wish this guy nothing but the best. His game is easy on the eyes but hopefully he’s not a one hit wonder.

Give it up Aussie Darcy! Some of us really aren't enjoying the women's tour very much at the moment and for good reasons! I want to watch the men's matches!

Hey @Aussie Darcy, I don't mind your criticisms, and personally I thought what Mauresmo said was crazy. I can actually imagine the pendulum swinging the other way as far as viewer interest, if the NextGen don't get their act together soon.

But do you have to do it in the pro results section?

Wow, what a beatdown for the world #2!! At least Felix took a set off him!!!

Is this guy the new Dutch superstar winning his maiden title at his home event against the second best player in the world?? Are the Dutch getting excited about him??

Tim van Rijthoven now becomes the 7th player this season to win his maiden ATP title (joining Kokkinakis, Bublik, Auger-Aliassime, Martinez, Rune, Baez).
